(Brasil - Composição: Seu jorge/Gabriel moura/Jovi joviniano ) 7 RESUMO “Família para quem precisa...”: Estado, instituições, políticas públicas e classes populares na construção de uma moral familiar dialógica. Este trabalho, a partir de um estudo sobre crianças e adolescentes numa instituição de abrigo, realiza uma análise relacional sobre os diferentes discursos acerca da família na cidade de Penedo-AL, observando a relação entre os discursos institucional e das famílias de classes populares. Estas últimas são alvos de diversos discursos estigmatizantes, apontadas como não se encaixando em determinado padrão de comportamento moral “adequado” ao “bom desenvolvimento” das crianças e adolescentes serão As mulheres aparecem discursivamente reduzidas à figura materna, apontadas como principais responsáveis pelo equilíbrio do lar e cuidado com os filhos. Observando o cotidiano e a conversa dessas mulheres, constata-se que constroem com a apresentação positiva de determinadas características pessoais e familiares uma moral familiar na busca de contrariar os estigmas infligidos. Elas realçam características pessoais e familiares que julgam ser positivas. Este cenário revela uma “confusão de línguas” (FONSECA, 2000), na qual a normatização moral imposta pelo Estado e suas políticas públicas, em nome da justiça social, reforçam determinadas estratégias de deslegitimação moral, sem levar em conta as especificidades socioeconômicas e culturais em que se constroem a moral dos pobres. Dessa forma, o discurso institucional centra a responsabilidade por determinados “problemas sociais” nestas pessoas e em suas famílias, desviando o olhar das críticas ao Estado. Criança - Adolescente – Mãe. 8 ABSTRACT This study, done with children and adolescents in a sheltered home, uses a relational analysis, to reflect on the different discourses about the family in the city of Penedo-AL. The relationship between institutional discourses and families of the working classes is observed. The latter are targets of several stigmatizing discourses, which identify them as not fitting into certain standards of “appropriate" moral behavior for the "good development" of children and adolescents. Women appear discursively reduced to the mother figure, identified as the main person responsible for the stability of the home and for the care of their children. Observations of the daily life of these women, reveal a moral familiar, in order to contradict the stigma inflicted upon them. They emphasize certain personal and familiar characteristics, judging them to be positive. This scenario reveals a " confusion of languages " (Fonseca, 2000), in which the moral norms imposed by the State and its public policies, in the name of social justice, strengthen certain strategies of moral illegitimation, disconsidering the socioeconomic and cultural particularities in which the morale of the poor are built. This way, the institutional discourse places the responsibility for certain "social problems" on these people and their families, and weakens the criticism of the State.     "teen mom" tv shows & stigma around young parents Creators of reality shows such as Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant say they are intended to prevent young pregnancy and parenting, but their greatest effect may be to increase stigma on pregnant and parenting youth. MTV’s hit reality shows 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom were produced with an agenda of preventing teen pregnancy by displaying a carefully constructed image of early-age parenting. Analyses of this media have found that the structure and content of the series minimize social inequities that often underlie young parenting. Some health promotion groups have partnered with such shows to try to provide health education to young viewers. One important case in point is the television franchise 16 and Pregnant, a show that, together with its spin-off series, demonize and glamorize teen pregnancy. Above all else, 16 and Pregnant produces the spectacle of the pregnant teen as a new identity for reality television. The purpose of this thesis is to show how the content of the series 16 and Pregnant reflects and array of historical, cultural, and political-economic factors. I adopt a feminist perspective in my political-economic and textual analysis of the show and related media. The following analysis draws on Douglas and Michaels’ (2004) conception of “new momism” and Murphy’s (2012) conception of “teen momism” and applies these terms to 16 and Pregnant to explain how teen moms are constructed as both morally reprehensible yet also desirable figures that echo neoliberal and postfeminist ideologies.

    Volume 5, Issue 1 February 2012 Teen Momism on MTV: Postfeminist Subjectivities in 16 and Pregnant CARYN MURPHY, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh ABSTRACT The cable channel MTV developed the reality series 16 and Pregnant and its spinoff, Teen Mom, to educate young viewers about the negative consequences of unplanned pregnancy. I argue that these series construct a postfeminist, neoliberal subject position through discourses of individual choice and personal responsibility, the incorporation of a maternal role into adolescent identity, and the internalisation of gendered social expectations of “successful” female adolescence and parenting. The episodic formula of 16 and Pregnant works to individualise the experience of teen pregnancy and positions each teen girl subject as a success or failure based on her ability to adapt to motherhood. Within both of these series, the responsibilities related to bearing and raising children become part of a larger fabric of educational and social achievements associated with feminine adolescence. KEYWORDS Postfeminism, Neoliberalism, Adolescence, Reality Television Farrah Abraham and Maci Bookout appeared on the August 2010 cover of Us Weekly, a celebrity gossip magazine. Unlike conventional tabloid subjects, these young women were not pursuing careers in film, television, or music; instead, they drew national attention when they appeared in the first series of MTV’s hit reality series 16 and Pregnant and its spinoff, Teen Mom. The magazine’s headline, ‘Inside Their Struggles’, is belied by the flawless physical appearance of the teenage mothers, who are posed with their smiling children. This issue kicked off a flurry of press coverage in which the “average” young women from MTV’s series joined the ranks of high-profile teen parents including Bristol Palin and Jamie Lynn Spears on the covers of People, In Touch, and OK! in feature stories about the trials of teen pregnancy that are ultimately presented as triumphs over adversity.
