Fall 2017 Show Results National Champion Wether: Valle Verde Zeus’ Elijah Breeder: Gina Miller Owner: Austin Ellebrecht How long have you raised and shown Pygmy Goats? Since I was 6 years old, so, for 3 years now. Who are/were your most influential mentors? Gina Miller with Valle Verde Pygmies What did you think when your goat’s name was called? Shocked! Me and my mom both started crying. Elijah was our first ever pygmy goat so he is already special in that way, but now he’s a national champion too! What are your plans for your champion? He needs one more Best Wether win to be finished and gets his platinum ranking. After that not a lot will change because he is also my showman- ship goat. Elijah would be very sad to stay home and not get to go to shows. Baker’s Pony Place Tinker Lou (6357F) and her son Klein’s Kids & Kritters Curry (922W). My first bucks were from Forget-Me-Not and J-Lynn. Shortly after acquiring these goats I started showing at Sierra Pacific Pygmy Goat Association shows. Now I travel through all the western states exhibiting my animals as often as I can. Who are/were your most influential mentors? Dr. Joan Dean Rowe of Rowe’s Toggenburgs, Eileen Heindselman of Little Eden’s, Janet & Ron Schager of J-Lynn, Beverly Rolfe of Furry Down, Dona & Rolland Salisbury of Sunset Knolls, Barbara Williams of Forget-Me-Not, Linda & Bob Henwood of Whirl- wind Farms, and Kevin Kress of K’s Heavenly Hill. What did you think when your goat’s name was called? I was extremely excited! Especially with Surrender, Suri for S: Nat’l MCH PGCH Valkyrie’s A Freedom Rhyd short, being a third generation national champion. Her sire is the D: Flying Turtle’s Sweet Sea Raven 2015 National Champion Buck, Nat’l MCH PGCH Valkyries’ A Freedom Rhyd. And her grandfather is the 2011 National DOB: 10/24/2014 Champion Buck, Nat’l MCH PGCH Valkyries’ Rhydeorch. What are your plans for your champion? Suri is now retired from the show ring as she has all of her titles, Nat’l, MCH, and PGCH. So now she will stay home to continue producing beautiful offspring. What is your advice to others wanting to show at the national level? Everyone is welcome to show at the national level and anyone can. Follow the breed standard and work with your mentors. Audit the Judges Clinic and learn as much as you can about correct structure and how it works. Apply it to your breeding program and be consistent in selecting who will stay and who is sold. This is our sixth year raising and showing pygmies. Who are/were your most influential mentors? Karen Hepner and her family, Doug and Lisa Bragg, and Diane and Amber Gen- da. What did you think when your goat’s name was called? Pure happiness, he is my pride and joy. He earned it. I was so happy that I picked him up, I didn’t realized I did that until I watched the live video afterward. What are your plans for your champion? He will stay home, breed, and enjoy his life relaxing. What is your advice to others wanting to show at the national level? Ask questions about anything and everything. Rodríguez, University of California, Riverside ABSTRACT The early twenty-first century saw a marked increase in depictions of LGBTQ people and communities in American popular culture occurring alongside political activism that culminated in the repeal of the Pentagon's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy (2010) and the Supreme Court's overturning of same-sex marriage bans in Obergefell v. Hodges (2015). Even as these events fueled a triumphant progressive narrative in which social and political representation moved LGBTQ people into a better future, a significant strain of LGBTQ-focused popular culture drew its attention to the past. My dissertation, Are They Family?: Queer Parents and Queer Pasts in Popular Culture, examines how American film, television, and literature between 2005 and 2016 construct relationships among LGBTQ people across recent history in generational and familial terms. These works queer the concept of the family by deploying parents and parental figures to examine the role of families in the transmission of queer knowledges, practices, and identities, countering notions of families as mere precursors to queer identity—“families of origin”—or as the agential creations of out LGBTQ people—“families of choice.” These works demonstrate how such dichotomous conceptions of family limit the people, experiences, and forms of affect that are legible within the category of LGBTQ history.

Visibilidades de gênero no programa de TV RuPaul’s Drag Race1 Joseylson Fagner dos SANTOS2 Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN), Mossoró, RN Resumo: O presente artigo se propõe a discutir a visibilidade de indivíduos e identidades drag queen a partir da veiculação de RuPaul’s Drag Race, programa de televisão transmitido em canal por assinatura no território norte-americano. O texto faz parte de um estudo preliminar a respeito das aproximações culturais entre a cena estadunidense e a brasileira, pela qual circulam referências sobre personagens e experiências drag queen. Para tanto, faz uma análise qualitativa de duas temporadas (2013 e 2014) do programa e suas principais articulações sobre as questões de gênero e identidade sexual que fundamentam a posterior análise e discussão de outros experimentos no Brasil. A reflexão iniciada aqui é pautada pela reflexão sobre como as referências apresentadas no programa permitem articular elementos como a visibilidade social dessas personagens na cena LGBT, e a articulação de questões de gênero e das sexualidades na difusão em meios de comunicação de massa. Hosted by veteran drag performer RuPaul, Drag Race features drag queen entertainers vying for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” Since premiering in 2009, the show has become a queer cultural phenomenon that successfully commodifies and markets Camp and drag performance to television audiences at heretofore unprecedented levels. Over its nine seasons, the show has provided more than 100 drag queen artists with a platform to showcase their talents, and the Drag Race franchise has expanded to include multiple television series and interactive live events. Hosted by veteran drag performer RuPaul, Drag Race features drag queen entertainers vying for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” Since premiering in 2009, the show has become a queer cultural phenomenon that successfully commodifies and markets Camp and drag performance to television audiences at heretofore unprecedented levels. Over its nine seasons, the show has provided more than 100 drag queen artists with a platform to showcase their talents, and the Drag Race franchise has expanded to include multiple television series and interactive live events. The RuPaul’s Drag Race phenomenon provides researchers with invaluable opportunities not only to consider the function of drag in the 21st Century, but also to explore the cultural and economic ramifications of this reality television franchise. ii While most scholars analyze RuPaul’s Drag Race primarily through content analysis of the aired television episodes, this dissertation combines content analysis with ethnography in order to connect the television show to tangible practices among fans and effects within drag communities.
