DIRECTORATE OF GEOLOGY AND MINING MINERAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT Govt. of Chhattisgarh 0 1 LOCATION MAP 2 1- INTRODUCTION The Bemetara district is one of the newely formed district of Chhattisgarh states, which formed on 1st January 2012 from the separation of Durg District. The District is moderately populated and situated in the central part of the Chhattisgarh State covers an area of 2854.81sq km. It falls in Survey of India Degree Sheet Nos. 64F and 64G bounded by latitude 21°22' to 22°03' N and longitude 81°07' to 81°55 E. It is surrounded by Durg districts in the south, Rajnandgaon&Kabirdham District in the west, Mungeli districts in the north and Baloda-bazar & Raipur district in the East. Bemetara is the district headquarters and is well connected by road and railway. National Highway No. 12A and connects Bemetara with Kabirdham. Bemetara is also connected by road with Raipur, Baloda-Bazar, Kabirdham and Durg with the other important towns in the district. District survey report has been prepaired as per notification no. s.o. 3611(e) New Delhi, 25th july, 2018 of ministry of environment, forest and climate change. District Survey report will be prepared in every district for Sand mining or River bed mining and other small minerals mining. The main purpose of preparation of district survey report is to identify the land increase or depositional areas and its infrastructure, Structure and installation distance from where the mining is prohibited and recalculation of annual replenishment and time required for replenishment after mining. -

Salient Information: About the area: Pithora Block is situated in the central part of Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh and is bounded on the north by Baloda Bazar and Raigarhdistrict, in the west by Mahasamund block of Chhattisgarh, in the east by Basna block, in the south west by Bagbahara block and in the south by Odisha state. The area lies between 21.05 and 21.50 N latitudes and 82.25 and 82.83 E longitudes. The geographical extension of the study area is 1060 sq.km representing around 21 % of the district's geographical area. Administrative map of the block is shown in Fig. 1. Geomorphology dominantly comprises of pediment and pediplains with some denudational hills and slopes in the northern part. Geomorphology map shown in Figure 2. Baghnala, Jonknala and Mechkanala flowing north-westwards are tributaries of Mahanadi river. Drainage map shown in Fig.3. -

District Profile Baloda Bazar, Chhattisgarh
District Profile Baloda Bazar, Chhattisgarh Baloda Bazar district was newly created from the old Raipur district of the state in 2012. The geographical location of Baloda Bazar Nagar is 270m from sea lev- el between 21.300 54 'to 31.450 14' North latitude and 42.020 17 'to 82.290 07' East longitude. Under the revenue administration, there are three subdivisions – Baloda Bazar, Bhatapara and Bilaigarh, with 6 tehsils and 5 sub-tehsils. Baloda Bazar and Bhatapara are municipalities, while Simga, Bhatgaon, Bilaigarh, Kasdol, Tundra, Lavan and Palari are Nagar Panchayats. DEMOGRAPHY As per Census 2011, the total population of Baloda Bazar is 1305343 which accounts for 5.11 percent of the total population of State. The percentage of urban population in Baloda Bazar is 12.73 percent, which is lower than the state average of 23.24 percent. Out of the total population there are 651,474 males and 653,869 females in the district. This gives a sex ratio of 1004 females per 1000 males. The decadal growth rate of population in Chhattisgarh is 22.59 percent, while Baloda Bazar reports a 34.65 percent decadal increase in the population. The district population density is 328 in 2011. The Scheduled Caste population in the district is 23.4 percent while Scheduled Tribe comprises 12.8 percent of the population. LITERACY The overall literacy rate of Baloda Bazar district is 70.63 percent while the male & female literacy rate is 82.79 and 58.57 percent respectively. At the block level, a considerable variation is noticeable in male-female literacy rate. -

Water quality is also assessed once in a year. The generated data from these observation wells are compiled, analysed and presented in the form of reports from time to time and circulated to various Central and State Government Departments. The present report embodies data and information collected during monitoring in the year 2019-20. The report has been compiled and prepared by Smt. Prachi Gupta, Scientist ‘B’ (Jr. Hg.) and Sh Uddeshya Kumar, Scientist ‘B’ (Jr. Hg.) under the guidance and supervision of Sh. A. K. Biswal, Scientist-D & Head of the Office.
