    InfoEx Industry Standard for an Extraordinary Industry InfoEx is a cooperative service managed by the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA), providing a daily exchange of technical snow, weather and avalanche information for subscribers. Subscribers are individual CAA Professional Members, or organizations and commercial businesses (e.g. backcountry guiding companies, ski hills, BC Highways, Parks Canada) employing CAA Professional Members whose operations require actively managing avalanche hazards. InfoEx gives avalanche professionals access to data that is accurate, relevant and real time. This knowledge improves each subscriber’s awareness of the conditions, greatly enhancing their ability to manage their local avalanche risks. InfoEx also serves as one of the key sources of data used by Avalanche Canada’s (AC) and other organizations public avalanche forecasters to produce and verify their products. The value of the InfoEx contribution to the AC public avalanche bulletin is estimated at an excess of $2 million annually. The significance of this contribution by avalanche professionals and their employers to public avalanche safety in the mountains of Canada cannot be overstated. Call to Order Bill Schrodel, president called the meeting to order at 8:45 am. Bill welcomed delegates from 16 member clubs including newcomers from The Fund Bank Ski Club and Black Ski Inc. The following tour operators were also present: Dan Ellis of Winter Ski and Sport; Judy Miller of Group Trips Unlimited; Effie Rubinstein of Sportours of New Jersey; and Bob McErland of Holidaze Ski Tours. Special guests: Tommy Geary, new regional sales representative for Vail Resorts, and Simon Diggins representing Snowbird/Alta ski resorts. Presentation on Vail, Colorado – Western Carnival 2014 Tommy Geary from Vail Resorts talked about upgrades at Vail (replacing Chair 4 —the Mountaintop Express, a quad chair from Mid-Vail to the top—with a 6-pack) and Breckenridge (adding Peak 6), highlighting the new gondola from Vail Village to Mid- Vail is in place and he congratulated the council for choosing the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa Hotel with its amenities and convenient location (everybody at one place, adequate event space, only a few hundred yards away from Lionshead, dedicated chairlift right by the hotel). Tommy also explained the Epic Pass/Epic Mix features and recommended the Epic Pass to members who are skiing in Colorado multiple times during one season. Presentation on Snowbird/Alta Simon Diggins promoted Little Cottonwood Canyon (known for pristine powder snow, and which is only 45 minutes from Salt Lake City Airport) as a possible destination for our 2016 Western Carnival.

    THE THIN LINE: Life on the Edge Skier Biographies BODE MILLER Bode Miller burst onto the World Cup scene as an 18-year-old in 1996 and first gained widespread recognition when he won two silver medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics in the Giant Slalom and Combined events. Miller has won a total of four gold medals and one silver medal at the World Championships. In the 2004/2005 Season, Miller won his first overall FIS World Cup title, outlasting Austrian Benjamin Raich. In the 2006/07 Season, Miller finished 4th overall and won the Super G title. In May 2007, Miller announced that he was leaving the U.S. Ski Team to race as an independent. PICABO STREET One of the most prolific women’s racers to ever grace the U.S. Ski Team, Picabo Street was most definitely a ski racing personality. The native of tiny Triumph, Idaho announced her retirement from competition following the 2002 women’s Olympic downhill at Snowbasin, Utah, ending a career that included nine career World Cup victories, the 1995 and 1996 World Cup downhill discipline titles and a trio of World Championships medals to go along with her two Olympic medals, including the Super-G gold at the 1998 Nagano Games. In addition, Street collected a total of four U.S. National titles during her illustrious career, despite being injured and away from ski racing for two years. But a doctor who checked him out at the scene was optimistic about Rahlves’ prognosis after the crash that resulted in the 36-year-old’s fourth hip dislocation. Daron Rahlves Rahlves, slated for his fourth Olympics, was putting pressure on the hip only hours after the accident. U.S. Ski and Snowboard officials said he was treated for a hip injury at the hospital and released late Sunday afternoon.
