Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.
GÖTEBORG INTERNATIONAL ORGAN FESTIVAL October 11-20, 2019 The Organ as a Mechanical Musical Marvel A tribute to Sven-Eric Johanson (1919-1997) CONCERTS FOR EVERYONE Göteborg Baroque´s Claviorganum Early music | Workshops | New music Conferences | The Pop Up Museum The Organ as Cultural Heritage A New Concert Hall Organ The Youth Organ Festival Live Streaming ORGEL-TV A World of Tactile Passion and New Sounds CELEBRATING 25YEARS CELEBRATING 25 YEARS We welcome you to the 2019 Göteborg International Organ Festival! The main theme of the festival is “The Organ as a Mechanical Musical Marvel”. The organ is the biggest musical instrument of all, enclosed in an organ case, a “body” with its own architecture and a mechanical “nervous system”, through which the organist gives impulses that make the instrument sound. From the bellows, the organ’s lungs, air streams through wind channels to be stored in windchests and then led further up to the sounding parts, the pipes, which are constructed in various ways and made of different wooden and metal materials, in order to produce as varied sounds as possible. The organ pipes are grouped in ranks or stops similar to the instruments of an orchestra: singing principals, soft-toned flutes, colorful shawms, trumpets and trombones, in addition to brilliant mixtures; all of them contributing to the organ’s unique timbral and dynamic scope, with sounds ranging from poetic and ethereal to fanfare-like and powerful. During the first weekend, the focal point of the festival is early music and the experimental mechanical world of organs and related keyboard instruments, epitomized in Göteborg Baroque’s unique claviorganum, inaugurated in February 2019, and funded by the Stena Foundation. -

Apostolic Succession in the Porvoo Common Statement Unity Through a Deeper Sense of Apostolicity
Apostolic Succession in the Porvoo Common Statement Unity through a deeper sense of apostolicity Erik Eckerdal Uppsala University Thesis 2017-08-01 Dissertation presented at Uppsala University to be publicly examined in Ihre-salen, Engelska parken, Uppsala, Friday, 22 September 2017 at 10:15 for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Faculty of Theology). The examination will be conducted in English. Faculty examiner: Professor Susan K Wood (Marquette University). Abstract Eckerdal, E. 2017. Apostolic Succession in the Porvoo Common Statement. Unity through a deeper sense of apostolicity. 512 pp. Uppsala: Department of Theology, Uppsala University. ISBN 978-91-506-2829-6. A number of ecumenical dialogues have identified apostolic succession as one of the most crucial issues on which the churches need to find a joint understanding in order to achieve the unity of the Church. When the Porvoo Common Statement (PCS) was published in 1993, it was regarded by some as an ecumenical breakthrough, because it claimed to have established visible and corporate unity between the Lutheran and Anglican churches of the Nordic-Baltic-British-Irish region through a joint understanding of ecclesiology and apostolic succession. The consensus has been achieved, according to the PCS, through a ‘deeper understanding’ that embraces the churches’ earlier diverse interpretations. In the international debate about the PCS, the claim of a ‘deeper understanding’ as a solution to earlier contradictory interpretations has been both praised and criticised, and has been seen as both possible and impossible. This thesis investigates how and why the PCS has been interpreted differently in various contexts, and discerns the arguments used for or against the ecclesiology presented in the PCS. -

The study can be discerned with two moments. The first part unfolds Vallgravsstråket’s obscure historical legibility by looking into the subject’s conditional processes of creating/producing heritage with focus on Vallgravsstråket’s local identity and place-based memory. The second part of the thesis focuses on the area’s opera- tive practicality by studying the consequences of constructing a footbridge over Vall- gravsstråket with the help of a morphological analysis. A recurring question involves understanding what makes up Vallgravsstråket and why it is important to preserve it and, for whom. Along these lines, it has been interesting to identi- fy an inconsistent gap between how the area is currently represented, what is commonly stated in legally binding documents and, how the local users evaluate the area.
