RESTRICTED GENERAL AGREEMENT ON a£££Fwi TARIFFS AND TRADE Special Distribution Textiles Surveillance Body Original: English ARRANGEMENT REGARDING INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN TEXTILES Notification under Articles 7 and 8 Bilateral Agreement between Sweden and Malta The TSB has received from Sweden a notification, under Articles 7 and 8 of the MFA, of a new bilateral agreement concluded with Malta, valid for the period 1 July 1981-30 June 1983.17 This notification has been made in accordance with the request by the Textiles Committee that agreements concluded with countries, non-participants in the Arrangement should be notified. The TSB is circulating the agreement to participating countries for their information. — The previous agreement is contained in C0M.TEX/SB/533. COM.TEX/SB/740 Page 2 ROYAL swreni.su K>ÏB,\SST Note Yeroale The Royal Embassy of Sweden presents its compliments to the Embassy of the Republic of Malta, and has the honour to re fer to the consultations held in Valletta from June 2 to 5, 1981, regarding exports of certain textile products from Malta to Sweden. The wording of the Agreed Minutes and their Annex, agreed in Valletta on June 5, 1931, on behalf of the Swedish and the Maltese delegations shall together with this Note and the Maltese reply thereto constitute an Agreement between the Government of Sweden and the Government of Malta. The Royal Embassy of Sweden would appreciate confirmation that the above is also the unders'.. nding of the Government of Malta. The Royal Embassy of Sweden avails itself of this oppor tunity to renew to the Embassy of the Republic of Malta the assurance of its highest consideration. The Embassy of tne Republic of Malta avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ilmhassy of the Kingdom of Sweden the assurance of it» highest consideration. 8th September, 1951 7 COM.TEX/SB/740 Page 4 AG2EEPMI23TJT2S D-oriag consultations held in Talletta from «Tune S to 5» 1981 regarding imports or certain textile products from Malta to Sweden, representatives of the Government of the Republic of Malta and the Government o£ Sweden agreed as follows: The Government of Sweden will' admit imports, through, a system of import licences, for deliveries from Malta to Sweden of the products of Maltese origin listed in the *7tr<*T to these minutes- up to the levels stated therein* Imports into Sweden from Malta of the textile items mentioned in the inner during the period July 1,. 1981 - June 30» 1983 will he fixed at the amounts set out in columns (d) and (e) of the Annex to these minutes. The Government of Sweden will forward to the Government of the Republic of Malta monthly information on a cumulative basis of licences issued for imports as well as monthly statistics of imports from Malta of the items listed in the Annex. This information 3hall, be forwarded directly to the Ministry of Trade of Malta by the Swedish Board of Commerce. The Government of the Republic of Malta and the Government of Sweden agree to consult each other, at the request of either party, if any problem should arise from the implemen tation of this agreement. The Government of the Republic of Malta and the Government of Sweden agree furthermore to enter into consultations, before the end of the period of agreement, on the conditions of a new agreement» COM.TEX/SB/740 Page 5 If consultations do not result, within a reasonable period of tine, in a mutually satisfactory solution and this would result in serious- damage to Sweden's domestic producers of like or directly competitive products, the Government of Sweden may apply limitations. to the extent and for such a time as may be found necessary.
