The SNO was first commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage in 2009 to measure the extent to which the general public is engaged with SNH and its work. Since 2015, the survey has been run on a biennial schedule following a period of more frequent reporting. Since its inception, the survey has provided insights into public awareness of SNH as well as people’s views and behaviours around a range of subjects including wildlife, biodiversity, National Nature Reserves, Marine Protected Areas, landscapes and taking positive action for nature.
