PRESIDENT’S REPORT

“Praise the children and they will blossom” – Irish Proverb I’d like to start by thanking everyone involved for making the 2008-2009 season a great success for Normanhurst-Warrawee CC. The Committee have again put in a huge amount of time, effort and enthusiasm to keep the wheels turning and the administration of the Club effective. I’ve been very fortunate to have 3 previous Club Presidents (Cameron Riddett, Anthony Maxworthy & Bruce Wood) involved in the Committee this year, and wish to thank them for not only their great individual efforts and contribution this season but also the tremendous legacy that their tireless efforts over the last decade have created. In addition, Sue Haertsch has once again been tireless and indispensible in all aspects of the running of the Club, John Kerr came back from the wilderness to fill the vacant Secretary role in our hour of need, and Mike Griffin came on board during the season to add a fresh voice to proceedings. Mick Smith has done everything asked of him with a minimum of fuss, always achieving a terrific outcome. We wish Chris Hawkins well with his overseas travel after the last two seasons as our trusty Equipment Officer, this season in a non-playing capacity after wrestling with the surgeon’s scalpel. I’m continually amazed and impressed to see the efforts that all team coaches, managers and officials put into their individual teams and the positive and fun environment that is created for all players. These 30+ people are the true champions of the club and are applauded for their contributions. This season we fielded 14 junior teams: 4 x Under 9s playing Limited modified cricket, 3 x Under 10s teams playing Average modified cricket (with a couple of hardball games at the end of the season), and 7 teams playing competitive cricket through Under 11s to Under 16s. It is a very healthy position for the club to be in seeing the large number of modified cricketers graduating to competitive cricket, with these teams fielded in very available age group, and in turn seeing a greater number each year of club juniors graduating to senior cricket. I trust that these trends will continue. Success can be seen in many different ways, and this season with Premierships won by our U11 and U16 teams, I like to view this success as an indication that the Club is doing a lot of things well and this is paying dividends on the field. You will read about both of these great teams later in the Report, so without rambling on any further I’d just like to add my congratulations to both of these teams and their management. However to me the undoubted highlight of the year was the club winning the HK&HDCA Junior Club Championship award for just the third time in the Association’s history. This award is determined across all clubs at competitive cricket level (U11 to U16) and takes into account every team’s performance, averaged by the number of teams from that club in each age level. So this means that not only have we had a couple of very successful teams within the club, but we have had all of our teams being relatively more successful than any other club. A fantastic award, and testimony to the great coaching and management of all our junior teams. The Club also had a big win this season with hosting a CricketNSW Level 1 Coaching Course at Normanhurst Oval early in the season. The aim of the club is to eventually have all Junior coaches accredited to at least Level 1 status, with the benefit clearly apparent in the level of training and tuition provided to the players. The Club congratulates the 26 Junior cricketers and 4 Senior cricketers who were selected for HK&HDCA sides this season. A decade ago the club had 4 representatives at this level as an indication of the level of growth and development that NWCC has undergone in this period. There is no doubt in my mind that playing representative cricket helps players develop and grow at faster rate through playing and practising at the higher level. I encourage all those

2 players thinking about extending themselves next season to have a go and try out for representative teams and see how much you will enjoy the experience. Seven Senior sides this season is the most ever fielded by the club, and a far cry from a decade ago when we has a solitary team flying the Normo colours on Saturday afternoons. Four of these sides playing semi finals is a great outcome, though none making it through to the season decider again this season was not what was ordered. As a club we will need to work hard to maintain the current full representation from A grade, through Colts and down to D2 grade to offer everyone a chance to play at a competitive level. The increased team numbers have strained the running of the Senior side of the club this season, with an injection of new ideas, new energy and shared responsibility needed from Senior players to maintain this side of the club. I wish everyone a restful off season, and look forward to seeing everyone back at the end of July brimming with enthusiasm and ready for another season of fun in the sun.

TEAM REPORTS

Milo In2Cricket REPORT Sebastian Adams, Joshua Arns, Alec Berg, Emanuel Berg, Rishikesh Deshpande, Darcy Fitzgerald, Luke Leverton, Robert Leverton, Bayden Little,Morgan Little, Benjamin Maisano, Caleb McMahon, Owen Pardy, Jack Ryan, Annuj Sankaran, Thomas Separovich, Maxwell Song, Benjamin Turner, Nicholas Walsh, Edward Westcott, Patrick Xie. Well as the season is ending it’s time to write the report and where else better to start than the weather, we could have made our own slogan this year at In2Cricket “raining one week, 40 degrees the next”. In saying that, week in week out we had an exceptional turnout. I can honestly say that I was both pleased and grateful for running in2CRICKET each Saturday this year and I want to thank everyone involved. This summer (if you call rain every 2nd weekend summer) the world revealed to myself the next Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting. In 20 years they won’t be saying how good the Hussey brothers are, they will be telling the world about the amazing talents of the Berg (Alec and Emanuel), Leverton (Luke and Robert) and Little (Bayden and Morgan) brothers. They won’t broadcast what great technique Matt Hayden has, they will be saying “how good Patrick Xie, Caleb McMahon and Edward Westcott’s techniques are”. The world won’t hear about all the sixes Adam Gilchrist hit, no instead they will hear how many sixes Nick Walsh, Owen Pardy, Thomas Separovich and Sebastian Adams are hitting. In twenty years time there not going to know who Shane Warne or Glen McGrath are because players like Annuj Sankaran, Jack Ryan and Benjamin Turner will break all the wicket takers records. Then the people of the world will hear that the Australians couldn’t be the number 1 team in the world without the brilliance or energy that Rishikesh Deshpande, Darcy Fitzgerald, Ben Maisano, Maxwell Song and Joshua Arns bring to the Australian team in the field with their outstanding catching and fielding abilities. We started this year very simple and the children understood cricket very well. So well in fact that by the end of the year, they were playing games that I have tried that year 10 classes couldn’t understand! My Milo in2CRICKETers picked them up with ease. Well done boys. 10 At the start of the year I was thinking to myself can I do this, by the end of the year I was thinking I wish that summer went all year long it’s so much fun, I have the great kids of in2CRICKET to thank. I would also like to send out a VERY VERY VERY VERY big THANKYOU to the dads that helped out every weekend. Without all of you, this season would not have gone as smoothly as it did so once again thankyou. Lastly but not least a big big big thankyou to all the parents that not only got themselves out of bed early every Saturday morning but brought(dragged I’m sure) all the kids along week in week out without your support there would be no in2CRICKET. Scott McLellan in2CRICKET Coordinator

UNDER 9 RED TEAM REPORT This team enjoyed a great season, made some new friends and had a great time both at training and on match day. The boys improved in all aspects of the game as the season progressed but most importantly in the two main areas, wicket celebrations and boundary congratulations. The hair rubbing, bum patting and glove knuckling was of international standard and did not go unnoticed by the IPL with several players being offered contracts for next season. The All-Stars are; Aidan ‘Roy ‘ S. Devastating LHB who scored nearly 500 runs for the season [av.160.6] including eight 6s and sixty 4s. Running between the wickets with Punter was a delight with many runs stolen. 11 wickets at 12.6 with some fine fast bowling, an excellent fielder. Akarsh ’The Prince’ A. The happiest member of the team, whether at training or playing. However it was at training we saw him at his best with some great catches and one memorable c&b and his enthusiasm in the end of season water fight was second to none! Alex ‘The Pup ‘ P. One of the most improved bowlers in the team, managing to equal top the wicket takers list and the amazing figures of 2.2.0.3 in one game. Hit 11 boundaries this season, was tireless in the field and never shied from hard work. Anirudh ‘Warnie’ N. The most improved bowler in the team. A dedicated trainer that hit 2 boundaries late in the season. One of the best hair rubbers in the business and often first in to celebrate a wicket. Aryan ‘Ooh aah’ D. An unusual bowling action bamboozled many opposition batsmen into false shots. His enthusiastic fielding was encouraging and he developed a fine arm in the outfield as the season progressed. Charlie ‘Punter’ J. Left armed fast bowler with a big future in the game, impressed many opposition coaches with his textbook side-on action. Equal leading wicket taker with [email protected]. Hit 16 boundaries and his first 6 this season and featured in three 50 run partnerships with Roy. Jared ‘Sleepover ‘ DV. Devastating batsman on his day with a high score of 26[12] including four 4s. Accurate bowler with team record of 11 successive dot balls. Safe hands and well at home behind the stumps, doesn’t mind a sleepover. Liam ‘Crazy’ V-T. Impressive bowler who led the team in maidens bowled over the season, unlucky not to collect more wickets .Discovered that batting averages improved if you didn’t get out and finished with an av. of 180. Rarely short of a joke or riddle. Ritvik ‘Test Match’ S. Sadly didn’t get too many games in but played with an intensity rarely seen in one his age .A determined batsman and genuine quick bowler who hated all batsmen –as any good quick bowler should. A very strong and accurate arm. Best bowling performances: Roy 4-1, Pup 3-0 , Punter 3-5 Best bowling performances: Roy 55 no. [18], Punter 36 no. [18], Crazy 32 no. [17] 11

UNDER 9 BLACK TEAM REPORT It was a wonderful year for these new cricketers, who enjoyed their first experience of ‘real cricket’. Through several hot Saturdays, the team were always keen and motivated and enjoyed themselves. One of the most pleasing aspects was to see how far each player’s skills developed throughout the season. As a team, they were a great group, with wickets being celebrated, and successes in the field or with the bat being equally enjoyed by the whole team. Many thanks to the kids for playing with such a great spirit, and many thanks to the parents for helping with coaching, scoring and assisting on Saturdays. Congratulations to the team, which comprised of; Rory Craig Phillip Craig Nicholas Hammond Jaime Dunn Jaqueline Hogarth Luke Nelson Josh Luton Liam Ivers Daniel Abbott

CONSISTENT EFFORT AWARD: Liam Ivers MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: Josh Luton Coach: Tim Nelson Manager: Belinda Dunn

UNDER 9 WHITE TEAM REPORT It has been a great season for the U9 NormoWarra-White cricket team this year. Half the team were playing their first season of cricket and they managed to win about half their games which is a great achievement. We struggled to find a coach in the beginning but were lucky (for us) to find an injured U16 rep player, Morgan, who took over the reins. The boys loved playing for their coach and played some entertaining cricket with lots of enthusiasm, learning plenty of skills along the way. Finn led the way with great all round cricket. He topped the batting with a total of 258 runs hitting plenty of 6’s. His bowling wasn’t far behind with a total of 10 wickets. He should feel really proud of his achievements this season. Lachlan is another great player – always keen to play and loves being involved. He managed 212 runs for the season - the second highest run tally, and also took 10 wickets. Seth just loves to bowl, usually off the long run generating lots of pace. He managed to get 6 wickets and was pretty handy with the bat scoring 169 runs. He should be proud of his fielding efforts as well – getting a few run outs along the way. Thomas improved so much this season. He is looking very composed with the bat scoring 186 runs and managed to take 5 wickets – even ditching the dancing run up!!! He also took a great catch. James was playing in his first season and really enjoyed his cricket. He hit a total of 101 runs (just cracking the ton), and managed to get 2 wickets. His enthusiasm and concentration will hold him in good stead for future seasons. Max also managed to crack the ton for the season, scoring 103 runs. He took 7 wickets including a great run out. He can’t wait for next season. 12 Oscar improved heaps as the season progressed as it was also his first season. He managed to crack a couple of big 4’s with a season tally of 112 runs. He also took 4 great wickets and worked hard in the field. Teddy was our import from America, where he played baseball. Once Morgan was able to get him bowling with a straight arm (and not throwing it) he was able to collect a few wickets, a total of 4 for the season. He was pretty solid with the bat, also getting the season ton with 175 runs. All the boys should feel really proud of their efforts throughout the season and it was rare not to have everyone turn up each week. The improvement was evident each week – especially in the field where they started to work together as a team. I have really enjoyed the season and am looking forward to the boys playing again next year. Thanks to all the parents who helped out during the season and a special thank you to Morgan for doing a fantastic job coaching the boys. See you all next season. BEST PERFORMANCE AWARD: Finn Spalding ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD: James Braithwaite Coach: Bob McKern Manager: Penny Witts

UNDER 9 BLUE TEAM REPORT The U9 Blue team had an excellent year in their first year of “proper” cricket. The team won 10 of its 13 matches, but more importantly, always played in a sportsman-like manner. The boys are to be congratulated on their willingness to learn new skills and improve on achieved skills. With a willingness to train we saw great development in their bowling with wides down to a minimum. Their fielding and backing up of each other was an area that improved week after week and was a joy to watch. Wicket keeping was one of the most sort after of jobs, as everyone wanted to stump the wondering batsman or achieve that run out from good fielding. Our batsmen put a lot of pressure on the opposing sides fielding as they were always on the lookout for quick singles. Our big hitters were also a pleasure to watch. Every player genuinely improved and performed a match winning performance at some stage of the season. We are already looking forward to next year. Richard Crago: Scored a total of 242 runs for 5 outs with a batting average of 48.Took 9 wickets for 79 runs for a of 9. His best bowling performance was 3/2 off two overs Dominic Della Franca: Scored a total of 228 runs for 5 outs with a batting average of 45. Took 9 wickets for 95 runs for a bowling average of 11. His best bowling performance was 3/4 off two overs Mitchell Haigh: Scored a total of 127 runs for 4 outs with a batting average of 32. Took 4 wickets for 92 runs for a bowling average of 23. His best bowling performance was 1/5 off two overs Jordan Hayes: Scored a total of 275 runs for 7 outs with a batting average of 39. Took 8 wickets for 120 runs for a bowling average of 15. His best bowling performance was 1/1 off two overs Joshua Hayes: Was the highest run maker scoring a total of 404 runs for 8 outs with a batting average of 51. Was the highest wicket taker with 14 wickets for 78 runs for a bowling average of 6. His best bowling performance was 3/1 off two overs Zac Payne: Scored a total of 50 runs for 4 outs with a batting average of 12. Took 4 wickets for 80 runs for a bowling average of 20. His best bowling performance was 1/6 off two overs

13 Oliver Tysoe: Scored a total of 109 runs for 6 outs with a batting average of 18. Took 4 wickets for 124 runs for a bowling average of 31. His best bowling performance was 2/11 off two overs Oscar Ley:Scored a total of 58 runs for 7 outs with a batting average of 8. Took 1 wickets for 79 runs for a bowling average of 79. His best bowling performance was 1/ 9 off two overs Thomas Dakin: Scored a total of 58 runs for 7 outs with a batting average of 8. Took 6 wickets for 112 runs for a bowling average of 19. His best bowling performance was 2/8 off two overs Ben Bishop: Scored a total of 138 runs for 4 outs with a batting average of 34. Took 11 wickets for 86 runs for a bowling average of 8. His best bowling performance was 3/9 off two overs A special thanks to Craig Ley and Kathy Haigh for scoring during the year. ALL ROUNDER AWARD: Joshua Hayes SPIRIT OF CRICKET AWARD: Jordan Hayes Coach: Steve Crago Phil Hayes Manager: Paul Haigh

UNDER 10 RED TEAM REPORT The Under 10 Red team had a very successful season notching up 1,835 runs and taking 66 wickets. In one game the team scored a massive 9-301 off 45 overs with the bat and in another took 17-186 with the ball. They all improved significantly in their cricketing skills as the year progressed. Most importantly they were good sportsmen in all of the games we played through the season. Three players from this team Avneet Bhele, Eknoor Singh and Shubhang Hariharan were also selected to play for the U10 HK&HDCA Representative team. Alexander Witts (65 runs, HS 15 and 6 Wickets B.B. 2-20) It’s always great to see a player smile when he achieves something he has been working on for a long time, and that was the case several times this year with Alexander. It was particularly the case when he took 2-20 one day and his smile was a mile wide! A veritable brick wall with the bat, prompting memories of Lawry at his prime, Alexander is also developing as a team player. Well done! Avneet Bhele (195 runs, HS 44 and 15 Wickets B.B. 6-18) It might sound surprising to say that a player with Avneet’s ability with the bat and the ball is possibly most suited to wicket keeping but Avneet’s overall game is so good that he seems one of those players who wants to challenge himself in a new way. Wicket keeping is something Avneet does well and it’s great to see that part of his game developing. Having said that, Avneet also topped the bowling average so he might have to choose roles soon. Dylan McGill (78 runs, HS 30 and 4 Wickets B.B. 1-19) Alan Border started in baseball but never really lost that love of being a left hander smacking the ball through mid wicket with a cross batted baseball swipe. It did AB no harm and this year it has also been an asset for Dylan, who, like Border, began his career in that great American game and like Border, loves to target the mid wicket boundary. Dylan’s bowling has also come on and he has taken a couple of classic catches too. Eknoor Singh (261 runs, HS 50 and 6 Wickets B.B. 2-14) Probably the most naturally gifted batsman and bowler in the team, Eknoor is as mercurial as he is passionate. What is most encouraging about Eknoor is not the fact that he can hit the ball out of the park, or rip a late swinging delivery down the pitch, or even take a screamer at mid wicket, his body parallel to the ground – the best part of Eknoor’s game is his developing leadership. I see it as the element he should concentrate on most. 14 Joshua Koshy (188 runs, HS 53 and 5 Wickets B.B. 2-2) Don’t let the figures deceive you. Josh missed part of the year, due to some time in India, so the comparisons between Josh and the other team members need to keep that in mind. Josh is developing as a thinking allrounder, and the most impressive element of his game has been the fact that his game was at its best when we played with the real ball in the last match of the season. This is a great sign for Josh and I strongly encourage him to continue playing. Lucas McLagan (106 runs, HS 47 and 3 Wickets B.B. 1-12) The “Tangles” of the team, christened so for his remarkable likeness to bowling action of the great Max Walker, Lucas clearly enjoys challenging himself on the field, particularly with ball in hand. Not content with that difficult bowling action, Luke spent many practices and matches experimenting with that even more challenging technique, leg spin. I thoroughly encourage him to keep going!! Manish Paida (263 runs, HS 53 and 7 Wickets B.B. 3-20) In a team of improvers, it is sometimes difficult to find one person who has come on the most. Not this time, however. As well as all of the other team players have done this year, Manish stands out from the rest as the most improved. With figures as impressive as his, it would suggest perhaps that Manish has always been amongst the leadership group. An outstanding effort! Quentin Cheng (220 runs, HS 50 and 13 Wickets B.B. 3-3) Quentin’s consistency in bowling, batting and fielding will take him a long way in the game. Quentin is one of several genuinely talented all rounders in this side, and his statistics back that up. Figures of 3 for 3 do not lie, and they illustrate Quentin’s ability to bowl straight and at pace. Perhaps the best thing about Quentin is that he continues to improve, even at a high level. Sahil Kumar (84 runs, HS 18 and 3 Wickets B.B. 2-26) One of the great improvers of the team this year, Sahil has blossomed into a surprise packet, particularly with the bat but also with the ball. As his 2-26 shows, Sahil has come to play a role as a significant contributor and that is vital for a team which wins more than it loses. I am very proud of Sahil’s improvement. Shubhang Hariharan (375 runs, HS 56 and 4 Wickets B.B. 2-12) If there is a more classically adept driver of the ball in the entire district at under 10 level, I would like to see them! Shubhang has developed his overall game considerably and as the stats suggest, his batting is reaping the rewards. Shubhang is also putting his usually high level of commitment into the art of leg spin and he lands a lot more than he doesn’t! Well done mate. 15 UNDER 10 BLACK TEAM REPORT Jeremy Herbert, Jacob Williams, Jacob Crisafulli, Mitchell Crisafulli, Nicholas Bishop, Jake Della-Pietra, Brendan Plummer, Philip Garling, Ewan Hennessey, Parthiv Subramanian and Leyton Witts. Well what a season! The boys have really made a great effort throughout. They have learnt a lot about the game, about strategy, about setting fields and about how to play the game in the right manner. The boys while playing some wonderful cricket, despite struggling against teams that had greater intensity for longer periods of time. There were some excellent victories after sustained effort which was lovely to see. The batting efforts of Brendan, Nicholas and Leyton throughout the season kept us in many games but also won us plenty as well. Jacob Crisafulli’s 38 runs late in the season was a wonderful result for a young man who has really worked hard to improve his batting. The bowling efforts of Mitchell, Jake, Jeremy and Philip was also very good as their efforts allowed us to take control of games that could have been beyond us. Phil Garling’s four wickets in two overs was one effort that stood out from the rest. Ewan and Parthiv’s constant improvement through the season is worthy of note. Parthiv’s improvement has been most noticeable in the new year as he has played with greater confidence. Jacob Williams did not play after Christmas however his enthusiasm for the game was evident to all and we hope he continues on with cricket into the future. I wish all the boys a wonderful and enjoyable future in this brilliant game that teaches some of the best lessons a young person can learn before they encounter adult life. In closing, a big thankyou to all the parents for their support throughout the season. To Subbu and David Garling thankyou for your efforts and your support constantly this season it has been greatly appreciated. UNDER 10 WHITE TEAM REPORT The boys again enjoyed a great season. The record will show that we had a 50 percent win/loss ratio. Our runs scored were significantly higher than the opposition in all games. In getting the runs however, the team threw caution to the wind and sacrificed their wickets in their hunt for a higher score. A couple of new players joined the team this year. Noah Binet joined the team, showing lots of enthusiasm having played previously with other teams. He has a great bowling action which matured when, in the latter part of the season the rubber ball was replaced with the real thing – the “6 stitcher”: Noah will strike fear into the opposition next summer when he gets the leather back into his hands. (Batting: 12/84 off 170; SR 49.4; Bowling: 2/153; SR 99; Accuracy 69.7%) Raghev also joined the team for the first time this summer. He showed tremendous dedication throughout the season, improving his bowling and batting markedly from the beginning to the end of the season. (Batting: 6/50 off 109; SR 45.8%; Bowling: 5/201; SR 39.2; Accuracy 67.25%) Lachlan Davie was also a new team member. Lachie was the team sponge throughout the year, listening intently to all of the coaching and advice and altering his approach accordingly. His focussed on listening and practice really showed toward the end of the season, with some 16 great batting and bowling results. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. (Batting 11/141 off 202; SR 69.8%; Bowling 2/181; SR 128; Accuracy 69.92%) Pat Flaherty was the forth of our new team members. After making some adjustments to Patty’s unorthodox bowling style, he really showed some true cricketing prowess. His ruthless batting style combined with his gutsy running between the wickets, complimented his great fielding work and quickly made him an integral member of the team. (Batting 9/162 off 188; SR 86.17; Bowling 5/166, SR 42.4, Accuracy 62.73%) Callum’s all round game improved out of sight between summers. He showed tremendous confidence and patience with the bat, a great set of hands in the field (taking one of the catches of the season behind the stumps, diving full length forward, catching the nick with outstretched arms…Gilly would have been proud). Perhaps his greatest improvement for the year was in his bowling. Towards the end of the season, Callum showed that all of the instruction over the last couple of seasons started to click for him, earning him the Most Improved Player Award. (Batting 10/187 off 256, SR 73.04; Bowling 9/137; SR 22.33, accuracy 69.65%) Rishabh again had an outstanding season, topping both the run count and the wicket count, earning the All-Rounder award. His patience with the bat earned him a couple of 50 not-out scores. His bowling instilled fear into the batsmen that faced him. From a run up that began near the boundary, with monotonous regularity he would toss down brilliantly pitched balls, that had the opposition ducking for cover or scrambling to protect their wicket. (Batting 4/259 off 315, SR 82.22; Bowling 12/102, SR 22, accuracy 90.90%) Matt Hammond began the season where he left off last summer, batting and bowling well. The middle of the season brought a quiet period for Matt. He did however manage to come home with a wet sail having two not out innings and performing well in the field. Matt showed some great leadership qualities, organising and encouraging his team mates when the heat of the Sydney summer began to take its toll on team concentration. (Batting 6/205 off 233, SR 87.98; Bowling 5/181, SR 47.4, accuracy 81.4%) In Ray’s second season, he showed some great skills with the bat, fearing no bowler and showing a great willingness to throw the willow and test his running between the wicket against the arm of any opposition, earning him the batsmen of the year award. Ray also had a great year in the field, catching anything that came close and demonstrating a remarkably strong and accurate arm with his fielding. (Batting 8/214 off 211, SR 101.42; Bowling 2/134, SR 99, accuracy 77.27%) Our quiet achiever Luke again had a great season. Luke is a pleasure to coach, always polite and attentive and willing to take the advice on board and practice what he has been taught. (Batting 6/42 off 78, SR 53.84; Bowling 2/109, SR 84, accuracy 65.47%) Paul’s bowling was again up there with the team’s most accurate (87%). He consistently troubled the opposition with his accuracy and length. Combined this with his energetic fielding, Paul is a great team player, always willing to chase the ball down and follow instructions keenly. (Batting 5/71 off 103, SR 68.93; Bowling 3/90, SR 57.33 accuracy 87.20%) Malhar is another member of the team who has showed tremendous improvement from last year to this. His bowling, which has always been accurate, this year had that extra bit of pace which troubled the opposition batsmen on many occasions. His batting also showed a great maturity, demonstrating patience and resilience and allowing him to post some great scores throughout the season. C’MON – the U11s celebrate victory in the final at Redfield

19 UNDER 12 RED TEAM REPORT Under 12 Red had a great cohesiveness in the team this year, but had a mixed season, with some close results going against us. Some highlights: Sam Arthur – Opened the season in style, taking a clean-bowled wicket in round 1. Sam showed real improvement with the bat towards the end of the season and also in the field, taking a stunning catch at square leg in round 6. Josiah Binet – A very good season from keen-as Jos, who consistently bowled with precision and took 11 wickets at an average of 8.64, including an impressive caught and bowled in round 3. Great improvement in batting technique was a highlight in the second half of the season, though always willing to bat for the team when required and chase quick runs. Jeremy Chivas – Showed great improvement this season in all aspects and is always a willing and enthusiastic member of the team. Took a great outfield catch in round 2 and another in round 9 and a brilliant wicket in round 5, clean bowling the opposition’s top scorer. Came back after the Christmas break diving around the field like he was Ricky Ponting. Matthew Corish – Matty had a super season with both bat and ball. Top score of 63 not out and taking 9 wickets at an average of 7.00, Matty also gloved up and was a nimble wicket keeper. Took some phenomenal catches with and without gloves, with a spectacular juggled catch at slips in round 9. Matthew Crago – A great season with the ball for this medium pacer, taking 6 wickets, with all but one clean bowled, often shattering the castle in spectacular style. Matthew is a keen cricketer and supportive team member who shows great enthusiasm in the field at all times. Lachlan Dixon – When he opened the season with 3/10 from 6 overs with the ball around swinging sharply it was clear that baseball’s loss was cricket’s gain. Lachie had a great season with the ball, claiming 13 wickets with a bowling average of 6.15 and was also sharp in all aspects in the field. Hamish Fullagar – Another great season from an inspiring and encouraging team member and outstanding all-rounder, top scoring with 62 not out in usual devastating fashion and thundering in to take 8 wickets. Hame also contributed to the team’s success with precise fielding and sharp wicket keeping. Jack Hammond – Starting the batting season with 50 not out in round 1, Jack had several great innings with the bat. When Jack was on, we usually saw a mammoth team total posted. He also contributed to the wicket tally, taking 5 wickets, fielding with brilliance and keeping with style. An impressive all rounder and great team member. Jamie Nelson – Jamie had several excellent innings with the bat and showed improvement with the ball, taking a brilliant wicket to clean bowl the top run scorer in round 2 and bowling with increasing precision as the season progressed. Once he realises what he can do on the cricket field will be awesome. Robert Potter – Joining the team late in the season, Robert’s enthusiasm and passion for cricket made him a welcome team member. Unlucky with the bat, Robert was keen in the field and bowled some tidy overs. Jamison Sexty – Jamison showed huge improvement in all aspects of his cricket this season, with a particularly inspiring knock in round 8. Kimbo Cup form was scintillating. Jamison was dynamic in the field, throwing down the stumps for run outs and taking every catch that came his way and must be just about next in line for the Aussie off-spinner’s position. Aditya Sheorayan – In his first season of cricket, Aditya enjoyed contributing to the team and was a welcome and enthusiastic team member. He always bowled economically and fielded with energy, taking a brilliant catch at mid-on in round 7.

20 Alister Tennant – Great improvement this season in the field, with terrific catches in round 7 and 9 contributing to the team tally. Alister contributed some tidy overs and always plays with enthusiasm and a great sense of team spirit. UNDER 12 BLACK TEAM REPORT The 2008-9 was a highly successful season for U12 Normanhurst-Warrawee Black. The team narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, finishing seventh but with the same points as the fourth, fifth and sixth-placed teams. Unfortunately, though, a lower runs scored/runs conceded ratio cost us a place in the semis. There were some memorable last minute and hard fought victories throughout the season that will remain in our memories: the last over win against Kissing Point, the second last over win against Redfield and a great team win over Upper Hills McGrath. Both bowling and batting improved considerably throughout the season and our fielding, while not always secure, was marked by some fantastic catches both around the field and behind the stumps. The general team spirit was always strong, enthusiastic and encouraging. From the team: many thanks go to Darren Woodrow, our coach, for his expertise and enthusiasm with great training drills and excellent insights into both batting and bowling technique. The team really appreciated Darren’s contributions throughout the past three seasons. David Braithwaite – David has continued to improve this season with both bat and ball. He bowled a number of tight spells including 1-5 against Hornsby and 2-20 against Kissing Point, both contributing crucially to our chances in those games. His fielding was excellent with a fantastic throwing arm brought across from baseball. With the bat, David continues to improve and can hit the ball with great force. Oliver Fisher – Oliver continues to be a mainstay of the team through his enthusiasm and application. His bowling continued to improve with the longer run up and greater rhythm proving a real feature of his game. His best bowling was 2-9 against Hornsby (a strong opposition) in the last round, which gave us a chance of victory that, unfortunately, our batsmen couldn’t quite complete. Patrick Grigg – Patrick played a varied role in the team throughout the season with bat, ball and wicket keeping gloves. His batting continued to be powerful and direct while his bowling was well pitched up on a good length. His fielding, and later wicket keeping, showed great skill and commitment, getting his body behind the ball and throwing strongly. Tobias Hilton – Tobias joined the team from Thornleigh this year and had a great time fitting in to the team culture. Over the course of the season both his batting and bowling improved significantly and he achieved a two wicket haul against the very good Redfield College. He was also involved in the famous win against Kissing Point, scoring two in the last over to secure the victory. His great sense of humour and team spirit were part of his contribution to the team’s success. Dylan Hood – Dylan continued to contribute strongly with bat and ball this season. Most memorable was his 36 not out against Redfield which, along with Josh Marshall, secured a great last minute victory. His bowling continued to be tight, probing and economical and he played a great role behind the stumps, taking a number of good catches. His fielding also remains a strong feature of his game with a good arm.

21 Josh Marshall – Josh only joined the team this year from baseball and immediately made an impact. He is a fast, slinging-type bowler who would invariably pick up a wicket a game and keep the runs down. He was an enthusiastic fielder and a good batsman who figured in some crucial late wicket partnerships which won us games, such as the one against Redfield. Alec McDonald – Alec formally joined the team this year alongside brother, Luke. Quite understandably, he found playing up a few years a challenge but should be commended for rising to that challenge in both bowling and batting. In particular, he was instrumental in our thrilling batting win over Kissing Point, scoring 14 crucial runs which won us the match! On song, his bowling was well pitched up and effective. Luke McDonald – Luke was our canny off spinner who generated the most chances in each game. Batsmen found his well flighted off spinners difficult to read and play and, in a couple of games, if our catching had been better he would have had a 6-7 wicket haul! Nonetheless, he still came second in the wicket-taking stakes, with 7 wickets for 85 at an average of 12 per wicket. He also improved in his batting as the season progressed and his 42 not out in the final Kimbo Cup demonstrated that talent. Chris Smith – Chris was the stalwart of the team’s batting with 272 runs at an average of 68 – a fantastic achievement. He also bowled his mixture of leg and off spinners with incredible skill, capturing 8 wickets for 89 during the season. His fielding was also first class with an excellent catching record, a fantastic throwing arm and a brilliant ability to anticipate batsmen’s shots and cut them off. Patrick Song – Patrick also joined us this year and was easily the most improved over the course of the season. He applied himself really well to both batting and bowling – being a steady, medium pace bowler and a careful batsman. His ability to listen and learn were excellent and he will improve further as each season progresses. Thomas Xavier – Thomas has always been a crucial member of this team with both bat and ball. He is a tight, inward-angling right arm quick bowler who is both economical and good at taking wickets. He also bats with great authority and excellent technique. With a highest score of 42 not out in the final Kimbo Cup and 5 wickets for 85 through the season, Tom’s all round skill and leadership qualities were outstanding. He also often kept behind the stumps and was equally fluent in this area. Ben Xie – Ben Xie continued to be a strength for Normanhurst Black and his loss, late season, to Kings, is a real blow. He generally opened the batting with Chris Smith and the two were an excellent opening partnership. His highest score was 40 against WPHC Red in the opening game and he accumulated 114 vital runs through the first six rounds. His left arm bowling was also very effective, with 1-0 off one over to finish off Redfield. Ben was always enthusiastic, applied himself to everything he was taught and fielded strongly. Jack Woodrow – Jack was an integral member of the team until he left for Barker late season. He is a challenging right arm quick bowler with a fast arm action and a good length. With 7 wickets for 90 over the course of the season, at an average of 12.8, Jack was vital in securing our excellent set of results. With the bat, Jack contributed to some key partnerships including a strong rearguard action against Berowra. Jack is a good fieldsman with a powerful arm. 22 UNDER 13 TEAM REPORT The boys had a good season finishing 6th from 14 teams and winning 5 from 9 including an outright against Hornsby in Round 1. The team batting average (22.66) ranked 4th in the competition and we scored 1405 runs – a big improvement on last season (948 runs at 12.99). The team bowling average (14.53) ranked 6th and our overall quotient ranked 4th. We beat finalists WPHC Blue easily in Round 4. In other words, the boys are good enough to make the semi-finals they just need to win the close games. Statistics below are from Rounds 1-9 and exclude Kimbo Cup games. Oscar Cole – U12 RH allrounder. Fast opening bowler (10 wickets at 13.30) - unlucky not to take more wickets. Good top order bat (142 runs at 17.75). Matt Ford – RH player. Great batting technique (177 at 29.50) with top score 37. Four scores of 30 or more – should break the shackles next season. Six wickets at 23.50. Jeffery Joseph – RH player. Hits the ball nicely square on the offside. Good side-on bowling action. Two wickets at 17. Played in parts of 5 games. Kartik Kundra – RH allrounder. Two years younger - classic batter (89 at 11.13) with top score 40 in Rd 8 v minor premiers Pennant Hills. Effective leg spin bowler (5 wickets at 20.20). Danny Martin – RH allrounder. A baseballer in his first season of cricket, Danny worked hard to learn the game, asking questions about technique. Danny trained and played with enthusiasm. 4 wickets at 24.50. Harrison Middlebrook – RH. Talented inswing quick bowler and hard hitting bat. Scored 28 and 3/14 in Rd 1 to secure an outright win. Played three games scoring 60 runs at 60.00 with 7 wickets at 5.29. Christian Sharpe –RH opening batter (160 runs at 17.78) who hits the ball hard. Top scored with 50 in Round 3 to lead us to a win. UNDER 14 TEAM REPORT At the start of the season we set three goals: have fun; each boy to improve his individual game; and the team to make the semi finals. This was a great group of boys. Everyone got on really well together and the season was very enjoyable. Nearly everyone made noticeable strides in improving their game. Seven of the boys made scores of 50, everyone took at least one wicket (all players except the wicket keepers bowling in every match) and the fielding was a revelation. The team finished the season on 39 points, missing a place in the semi finals by only 1 point. The boys would have been worthy semi finalists, finishing the season with the third highest quotient and the highest total number of runs in the competition (1550!). There were many highlights including inflicting the only defeat of the season on eventual competition winners WPHC Gold. Even better, though, was watching the boys encourage one another and sharing in each other’s triumphs. A great season. The team was: James Austin: Has developed great strength in batting. It is only a matter of time before it is unleashed to full devastating effect. Has continued to develop his tricky medium pace. Tim Blunt: Continued to develop his skills as a wicket keeper. Scored 146 runs at an average of 36.50. One of 3 captains, taking full responsibility for the team out on the field. Chris Bourke: A fitting winner of the coveted “Players’ player” award. Took 7 wickets at an average of 18.29 and scored 192 runs at an average of 27.43. A very promising opener. Michael Bradley: Had a great season, taking 8 wickets at an average of 17.25 and scoring 115 runs at an average of 23.00, including a top score of 58 not out. Matt Briscoe: Cemented his role as an opening bat, scoring 159 runs at an average of 22.71. Always keen in the field, including as keeper, and took 3 wickets with his leg spin. Ryan Coutts: A great team member who always gives 100%. One of 5 fast bowlers in the team, taking 5 wickets at an average of 19.20. Batted well with a top score of 23. Tomlin Poynton: An exceptionally athletic, “ninja” fielder. Developed lethal off spin by the end of the season. Never took a backward step batting. Daniel Reincastle: Won the award for most improved player. Worked really hard on his bowling and ended up taking 5 very valuable, match turning wickets. Utkarsh Somaiya: Always inspirational on the field as one of 3 team captains. Top wicket taker with 13 wickets at an average of 8.54. Scored 146 runs at an average of 29.20. Luke Thorburn: The “Big Gun”. Scored 213 runs at an average of 35.50, and took 5 wickets at an average of 21.60. Excelled as one of 3 team captains. Christian York: Won the batting award, with 198 runs at an average of 66, including 3 magnificent innings. Also bowled very well, taking 5 wicket at an average of 10.60. Sam Howard: Sam’s bowling has reached new levels of maturity, adding great accuracy and cunning to raw pace. Always keen in the field. We all know what he can do with the bat. Harrison Middlebrook and Hayden Witts always made valuable contributions whenever their school cricket commitments allowed them to join the team. Harrison’s direct hit on the stumps from the boundary to run out one of the WPHC Gold batting stars was a memorable moment from the season.

This years U/15’s was a combination of last seasons Red and Black teams with a couple of new lads from the disbanded Pennant Hills U/14’s.

For a mixed team I must say it certainly gelled very well, and I was most happy that the cricket played was competitive, but more importantly, it was played in the right spirit.

The boys enjoyed some success throughout the season, notching up three wins along the way, being placed 6th on the table (23 points), and winning one Kimbo Cup match and having a tie in the other against an U/16 team.

This team was a pleasure to coach, and it was obvious that every player learnt something and developed and improved their cricket in some way.

Mitch Fullagar had a great season topping the averages in both batting and bowling, whilst Rajiv learnt to be more patient and reaped the rewards, although not as quickly as I’m sure he’d like.

Many thanks to the parents for their help this year: John Acheson as always had everything under control as manager/scorer, and the assistance of Chris, Stephen and Mark with umpiring was invaluable. Special thanks in particular to Mark Fullagar who was at training every week helping out, from which the boys enjoyed showing off their bruises left by the bowling machine.

We hope to see all of the boys back for their final season of junior cricket next year.

25 UNDER 16 TEAM REPORT CHAMPIONS both on and off the field - this team has overcome many hurdles during the season to take out the crown; a change of coach early in the season (Round 3), four part-time players and occasionally without a full compliment of 11 players we realised our ultimate goal. The team’s skills, determination, mental attitude and self confidence ensured the result we all worked so very hard to achieve. Of the 9 competition rounds we won 8 comfortably on first innings and had a controversial draw in the last round however this could not deny us the mantel of undefeated Minor Premiers. The team approached the semi-final with a solid training session and strong mental attitude which saw us defeat WPH Red convincingly. The team approached the final at The Glade with added confidence as several of our players had turf experience from Representative and Senior cricket. The team stuck together and supported each other in the batting and bowling attack to defeat WPH Blue by 56 runs and become U16 Premiers. I am very proud to be associated with these young men, most of who now look forward to a strong future in our Club’s Senior teams. Congratulations fellas, well deserved! Jayshan Chagan proved to be very handy with the ball and took key wickets throughout the season. Notably 2-13 off 4 overs in the Final certainly helped bolster our victory. I can see the makings of a fine bowler with natural ability and poise. Congratulations Jayshan on a good season and I look forward to you playing Seniors in 2009/10. Braden Cheng had a super year with the bat and ball, and assisted the team greatly as a part-time player. Always trained hard which resulted in a crippling 3-35 off 9 overs in the final which removed the top order and sparked the team’s spirited attack. A rapid fire 45 not out against Hornsby in Round 8 proved he has the ability to be a formidable all rounder. Congratulations Braden I look forward to you playing Seniors next season. Lachlan Ford is a true sportsman and young gentleman Lachlan has matured both on and off the field in 2008/09. His remarkable batting and bowling proved to be game breaking during several rounds particularly during the final and semi final, scoring 143 no. and 87 no. respectfully. Lachlan embraced the responsibility of captaining the team in the latter stage if the season. With the support of his team he led us to victory being both modest and gracious at all times. I see a very long and distinguished career ahead of you. Congratulations Lachlan on an outstanding season. Ben Phillips is a rising star with a superb batting technique, capable of scoring many runs. Very handy in the field and took several key wickets during the season. Ben is a very spirited player who takes immense pride in his game. He is a joy to coach and respected by his team mates. Congratulations Ben I look forward to you playing Seniors with the club next season. Cameron Allen scored a superb 49 not out including seven 4’s against Pennant Hills Blue in Round 4 ensuring we batted through our 60 overs to set a big target of 242. A solid bowling performance throughout the year rewarded Cameron with several key wickets; however his relentless attack in the field made a big difference all year round. Cameron played 14 matches in C3’s and has become a familiar face in our club. Congratulations Cameron, keep up the good work in 2009/10. Cameron Griffin is a new member of the club, and proved to be the spirited edge the team required throughout the season. His non-stop determination and ability to raise the stakes, support his peers & provide leadership all proved to be very useful. Cameron developed into a sound opening batsman both at club & representative levels. Notched up a 50 & retired in round 1 & made many good starts throughout the season. Cameron also played on Colts, D2’s & C3’s which has given him a taste for bigger and better things in 2009/10. Congratulations on a successful year matey. Lindsay Haertsch is the quiet achiever of cricket. He has an uncanny way of turning the ball both ways to totally deceive the opposing batsman. Lindsay trained hard all year, represented 26 the Club and took vital wickets throughout the season. Whilst playing Colts in December 2008 Lindsay suffered a broken arm, this however did not deter him and he continued to take key wickets which proved to be critical in the Semi Final (3-18 off 7 overs), and Final (2-20 off 6 overs). Congratulations on a superb season Lindsay. I look forward to you playing Seniors in 2009/10. Edward Knowles is a new member of the Club and has improved out-of-sight this season. Edwards fielding and bowling improved due to his confidence and determination. His maturity and understanding of situations was exemplary. Edward always trained hard, listened to his Coach and respected his peers and has developed into a fine cricketer throughout the season. Playing several matched in D2’s has given Edward a good taste for next season with our senior sides. Congratulations on a good year and my best wishes in Seniors next season. Guy Seymour has carried on from last season with a strong performance with both the gloves and bat. Guy was unselfish in sharing the keeping duties however still managed to take many catches and stumpings. Guy opened the batting in several innings and formed good partnerships which led to strong victories. Notably, Guy’s 36 against Castle Hill in Round 7 led us to victory. Guy trained hard and is developing into a very good cricketer. Congratulations Guy, I wish you all the best next season with your pursuit of grade cricket. Matt Page is a promising cricketer with an excellent batting technique and an enthusiastic attitude. Despite limited availability due to school cricket commitments Matt contributed to the team when he could, including a spirited effort in the field in round 7 despite not feeling well. Lachlan Skulander had a good year with the bat and was our part time keeper. He had a top score of 43 and took several good catches both with the gloves on and off. Lachlan represented the Club and was a key member of the Team. His fielding skills improved throughout the year along with his ability to keep the talk up on the field. Lachlan is making into a sound cricketer. Congratulations Lachlan and I look forward to seeing you in the Senior ranks next season. Ned Williams had a very memorable role in the junior season and also played several games for our seniors. Ned proved to be very handy with the ball and took key wickets along with becoming a sound middle order batsman. Ned embraced the opportunity to captain the Team in round 9 and learnt valuable skills for next season in seniors. Congratulations Ned – I look forward to you playing Seniors next 2009/10. Connor van Rhoon is a handy batsman who always took on the challenge to open the batting. Connor had a top score of 36 in round 4 against Pennant Hills Blue which ensured we posted a competitive 242 from 60 overs. Congratulations Connor I wish you all the best next season with your pursuit of grade cricket. John Linquist joined the Team in round 2 as a new member of the Club. Making himself available as a part-time player throughout the season he became an integral part of the Team and proved to be strong attacking bowler and fieldsman. As a representative and grade player it is difficult to adjust from turf to synthetic; for which you handled with patience and maturity. Your support bowling pressured the batsman netting our other bowlers with wickets for which you can share. You are a delightful young man and I thank you for your support and wish you the very best in your pursuit of a grade cricket career. I would like to firstly thank our Manager Sue Haertsch who held the team together throughout the season. Always on attendance at training and at matches Sue was a good sounding board for players and parents. Sue has done a sensational job for the team. The boys and I thank you form the bottom of our hearts. I also thank the Scorers (Tim Knowles and Sue Haertsch), Umpires (Martin van Rhoon and Michael Allen) and the parents for your tireless support all season – its not any easy job! Thanks also to John Corish our Club President for his support of the Team and Management throughout the season.

27 We are very proud of Lachlan Ford who won the Club’s Junior Cricketer of the Year Award. Lachlan is an outstanding all round cricketer who scored 638 runs at an average of 159.50 and top scored with 143 n.o. He took 30 wickets at an average of 7.80 with a best bowled 8-4 off 6 overs. This is an astonishing achievement at this level of cricket and the team and management congratulate you on this magnificent performance.

BOWLING AWARD Lindsay Haertsch - 20 wickets at an average of 10.95 with a best bowled 5-33 off 11 overs. A superb effort, taking key wickets and supporting his team. BATTING AWARD Cameron Griffin - 223 runs at an average of 24.78 with a top score of 50 retired. Cameron has proved to be a strong top order batsman for the Club. COACH’S AWARD Edward Knowles – Tried his heart out all year to improve his skills in batting, bowling and fielding. Had a top score of 18 and took 5 valuable wickets including the final wicket of the season at the Final. Edward always trained hard, listened to his coach and respected his peers and has developed into a fine cricketer throughout the season. Coach: Michael Griffin Manager: Sue Haertsch

A sweet victory at The Glade for the U16s after defeating WPH Blue by 56 runs

28 SENIOR TEAMS

A GRADE Team: Murray Rowe (Captain), Steve Smith (vc & wk), Peter Bradey, Craig Hodges, Rocco Giaquinto, Nick Garton, Rob Waight, Cam Riddett, Nick Wilson, Matt Nelson, Tom Cole, Michael Brown, Nishad Kulkarni, Steve Drew.

After finishing minor premiers last season but missed out on playing in the final by a few runs our obvious goal was to go one better and take out the premiership. The extra incentive was there too with a few of the lads –Brades, Gartoes, Rocco, Drewy, Smithy, Crofty and I – all declaring early on that it would be our last year in the whites and red/black baggy for Normo. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and was always going to be a tough ask following the late scratching of 4 our key and experienced players from recent years. Throughout the season 29 players were required which on the positive side gave a lot of the younger guys from Colts and B Grade an opportunity to gain experience in the top grade. New players Robbie Waight, Tom Cole, Michael Brown, and Nick Wilson in particular all made impressive contributions and showed Normo’s A Grade future is in good hands. We were also very fortunate to pick up the huge talent of Craig Hodges in the off season draft who starred with bat and ball just about every week after several years out of the game.

In summary we had a luckless year registering just 3 wins and 4 draws of which 3 were rained out with us in strong positions, despite all grounds having covers this year. Anyway we saved our best performance for the last game against 2nd placed Castle Hill, the side who beat us in the Semi last season. We well and truly got our revenge after we knocked them over for just 61 runs in 24 overs! (after chasing our 6 for 128 from 36 overs – in a one dayer) Highlights were Hodgey’s 4-11, Rocco 2-11 and Crofty’s 3 for 12 - an excellent way to finish and must have knocked their confidence out given they were rolled the following week in their semi for just 122. Other highlights of the season included:

• Hodgey’s 103 against St Ives – an awesome innings on a wet Glade wicket – does batting get any harder?? Hodgey also top scored with 59 out of 136 against ARL on the same ground in Rd 1. • Bradesy’s 60 against St Ives and 49 against Hornsby which included plenty of fours and zacks only to get out when the voices in his head started talking to him “this guy has got to go!”. Who could forget the 50 run last wicket partnership he had with Rocco against Hornsby? Talk to Rocco and I’m sure he’ll tell you about it. • Nish’s 4-22 against Kenthurst. At one stage he had 3 for 0 after rarely bowling in previous years. Way underbowled! • Nick Wilson’s 57 vs Berowra and Gartoes 4-14 vs ARL were both special given the circumstances of the games. • Browny’s 2-14 v Kenthurst and Tommy Cole’s 3-18 v WPH were both great opening spells. They both bowled really well all year and have big futures in A Grade if they continue. • Robbie Waight’s classy batting at the top of the order especially the 50 he made against eventual finalist Kenthurst. Smithy’s 43 not out in the same game was awesome to watch as he helped us cruise to an easy victory with only 4 wickets down.

Once again on behalf of the team I wish to thank all our supporters especially Grahemy Rowe, Rob Bradey, the Croft’s and McDonald’s, Kelly, Jane, Marika, and Lily. I also wish to thank all the guys that helped us out so that we could get 11 players on the field, especially Jason Maxworthy and Calum Waldegrave.

29 Well lads, it wasn’t the best possible way to finish up but thanks to you all for a very enjoyable past 4 years as A Grade skipper. I’ll never forget the great times we had over the years and I hope the friendships we’ve developed continue for a very long time to come. There is no better club to play for in the country! True blue.

Go Normo and all the best!

C2 GRADE Well, I think I can start by saying that all the boys really enjoyed the year. Once again, we fell at the semi-final stage which was disappointing. I have to say the lads were fantastic in the field and with the ball, what really let us down was our batting, which really started to crumble in the 2nd half of the year. The highlight of the year for me was a come from behind win against Castle Hill RSL at Headen. Down on the 1st innings after some horrible batting, we stuck at it in the field, chipping away at the batting line-up. When we finally rolled them a 2nd time, we required 82 off 15 overs, in a match where the average scoring rate had been about 1.5 to 2 runs an over. Making that chase with three balls to spare was one of the great moments in my cricketing life and most of the other lads agreed as well. John Herdman – As my Vice Captain his performance this year was outstanding with both bat and ball. 494 runs @ 44.9 made him the cornerstone of the batting. H.S. of 106 and a 96 N.O. really carried the team a long way, as did his 16 wickets @ 15.7 (best bowling 5\26) 30 Brad Cole – A star with the ball this year as well as some crucial digs with the bat. He was instrumental in bringing the team together with some “inspiring” words to all the younger lads. That rant of an email is never leaving my inbox mate. 205 runs @ 25.6 and 20 wickets @ 11.3 econ 3.0 Mike Devitt – Another solid year for Mike. He probably like a few more runs, but then again he should be batting higher in the order anyway to give him longer digs. Always reliable with the ball, making the crucial breakthroughs and smashing my gloved fingers. 275 runs @21.2 H.S. 61 & 23 wickets @ 14.3 and 6 catches. Bryan Massey – He certainly won’t think it was his best season and I’d agree with him. However, with 6 ducks to weigh him down he still made 149 runs for the season. My thanks go to him for his captaincy earlier in the season and especially for him time and advice once I’d taken over. Cheers mate, a better season’s on the way. Patrick Muldrew – As the season wore on the performance became more erratic. 256 runs @17.1 with a H.S. of 53 I was well under form. 11 catches were a small consolation. Connor Siebel – He was terribly unlucky this year with his bowling. I can’t tell you how many times he beat the edge of the bat this year, or had edges go to no one. His batting was on or off. 216 runs @ 16.6 H.S. 54 & 8 wickets @ 35.8 econ 2.8 Pat Brackin – He was terrifying with the ball and I was only keeping to him. He could always be relied upon to shake batsmen up. Known as a loose cannon, more control will make him a real force in years to come. 19 wickets @ 15 Scott Lloyd-Owen – The workhorse of the team. Scotty bowled 47 maidens (about a third of his overs) and really piled the pressure on at one end. 20 wickets @ 16.6 and economy of 2.2 was brilliant. John Acheson – This man was the rock of the team, not just with his reliable batting but with his sound advice and ideas on the game. Many thanks to John for his help managing the team through the season. 191 runs @ 19.1 H.S. 51 Dave Horne – always a good day in the field with Dave in the side. Good partnership breaking bowling especially with balls that bounce twice. Injury cut him down in his prime, but he’ll be back raring to go by September. Brad McGuire – Brad keeps improving as a batsman as he plays more and it’s only a matter of time before he makes that big score. Dynamic at gully he makes fielding look easy. Tim Acheson – Thanks to Tim coming in when injury and unavailability plagued the side. His outswing was fantastic, destroying West Pennant Hills with 4\13 at Annangrove. Economy through the season of 2.0 Manoj Rajamohan – The “maharaja” was only with us shortly but made a huge impact with 162 runs @ 32.4 and 8 wickets @ 23.8 B.B. 5\24. A great team man. Nick Muldrew – Had a rough year, blowing out his A.C.L. and going through a full knee re- construction. We look forward to having him back next season. Thanks to those who also helped out when we were short on players: Owen, Raja V, Amran, Nick D., Josh Cole and our man in Holland, Roberto Hamad. D2 TEAM REPORT Despite Berowra’s negative tactics in the Semi Final, our heroic efforts restricted them to 122 in their 1st innings. However, we could not go no to clinch that Semi-final victory, as we succumbed to a very good bowling attack under adverse weather conditions. Well, it was not the finish we wanted to end the season, but what can I say? “There is always Next Season!” Baring the final results, we did very well this season which saw a few rising stars among the young players. We have also seen what the re-invigorated senior players could do in the hour of needs. Particularly, the resilience and the fighting spirits of the team, when we reached the bottom of the ladder during the mid season (a HKHDCA decision saw us losing 6 points on penalty) were commendable. In the end, the team efforts paid off and we won a place in the Semi Final. Season’s highlights: • 7 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses (including SF) that included 2 x 300plus runs totals and 2 x victories chasing 200plus runs. • Batting efforts include: four centurions in the team plus five half century scores. • Bowling efforts include: 1 x 5 wicket haul, 2 x 4 wicket hauls and 13 x 3 wicket hauls. • Fielding efforts include: 45 catches and 14 run outs. • Keeping efforts include: 19 catches and 2 stumping (between 8 players) Records for the season: • 3rd position Champion Player – R Tamilarasan – 88.8 • Highest score – R Tamilarasan – 117* • Highest 1st wicket partnership – V Mohan Kumar* & M Griffin – 159 • Highest 3rd wicket partnership – M Griffin & M Jindal* – 139 • Highest 4th wicket partnership – M Jindal* & M Donnelly – 123 • Highest 7th wicket partnership – C Griffin & R Tamilarasan* – 130 Andrew Bastoli – good medium pace bowler. Claimed 8 wickets for the season including a match winning 5 wicket haul against Galston Glenorie. He played only in the 2nd half of the season due to HSC commitments otherwise the figures could have been much better. Justin Donnelly – the best all rounder of the year. One of the opening bowlers, a reliable batsman and an excellent fielder. Scored 188 runs including a match winning 64 runs effort against St Ives, claimed 16 wickets including 2 x 3 wicket hauls and took 5 catches and involved in 2 run outs.

32 Mike Donnelly – the only left hand batsman in the team and one of the centurions of the year (106). The best of all his achievements this year was his keeping efforts. Started as stand-in- keeper to replace injured Amran and turned out to be an excellent wicket keeper in the end. Scored 297 runs including a century and two half centuries and took 5 catches as a keeper. Lalit Garg – joined the team late in the season. Tried various batting positions and turned out to be an excellent opener in the end. His match winning efforts in holding the innings together against Galston Glenorie was commendable. An underrated medium pace bowler who has very good potential. Scored 142 runs and claimed 8 wickets including a 3 wicket haul. Cameron Griffin – one of the centurions (103). It was a shame that he could play only few games for us. He got graded after 4 games and played rest of the season for the Colts. Mike Griffin – amazing senior player with extraordinary fitness (After completing a half marathon in the morning, scored a century for us in the same afternoon). Reliable batsman – one of the centurions of the year (100), an intelligent swing bowler that earned him the highest wicket taker title and also a part time wicket keeper. Scored 297 runs including a century and a half century. Claimed 24 wickets including 4 x 3 wicket hauls. Tim Griffin – a late addition to the team who played only the last two games. Very good keeper and a handy middle order batsman. A great potential for next season. Maniche Jindal – a reliable top order batsman, who holds the records for 3rd and 4th wicket partnerships with M Griffin and M Donnelly and also a handy medium pace bowler. Whilst having a questionable fitness, his excellent reflex at the slip field earned him 5 sharp catches. Scored 194 runs and claimed 13 wickets including a 4 wicket haul. Varun Mohan Kumar – very good opening batsman who holds the record for the 1st wicket partnership with M. Griffin and a handy medium pace bowler who can bowl a lot of variations. It was pity he could play only 5 games including SF due to his overseas trip. Scored 171 runs including a half century and claimed 11 wickets including 2 x 3 wicket hauls. Nick Mowat – the only left arm bowler in the team, a reliable lower order batsman and specialist mid on/mid off fielder. Scored 127 runs and claimed 7 wickets including a 3 wicket haul. That was a very good effort playing after 20 years. Jaime Nagayo – A committed player who supports the team whole heartedly. An excellent partnership breaker with his mystery bowling. His efforts in defending the last wicket of the innings against Kissing Point, until his partner (Rahul) scored his century were commendable. He claimed 3 important wickets during this season. Raja Rajamohan – Captain, a pinch hitter (scored few sixes for the season) but not a consistent batsman. Handy slower bowler causing all sorts of problems to the batsman but could not bowl much this year due to a knee injury. A good slip fielder and tried his luck as a keeper but decided against it after keeping for Rahul in few matches. Scored 89 runs, claimed 8 wickets and took 5 catches for the season. Steven Rapley – a reliable team player, a handy lower order batsman and a specialist mid on/mid off fielder. Scored 79 runs for the season. Amran Sinha – Vice Captain who lead the team for 2 matches this season. An excellent team motivator, very good middle order batsman, handy slower bowler and an outstanding fielder. He tried keeping for fist time and while he was grooming to become team’s specialist keeper, he sustained a bad injury in his finger (double dislocation) that costed him few games this season. Scored 112 runs and claimed a total of 8 catches (5 as a Keeper), 2 run outs and also a stumping. Rahul Tamilarasan – the star player of our team who narrowly missed the Champion Player title by just 2.6 points to the players who had the chance to play additional games (SF & F) to beat him. A brutal lower order batsman who punishes bad bowling mercilessly. One of the centurions who holds the record for the highest individual score (117*) for the year in D2 comp and also for the highest 7th wicket partnership with C Griffin. A demon bowler who terrorised 33 the opposing batsmen (and his own wicket keepers!) with his speed and power. He is also an excellent fielder. Scored 357runs in 12 games he played for the season that included a century and two half centuries, claimed 15 wickets including a 4 wicket haul and 2 x 3 wicket hauls. His achievements also included 4 catches and a run out. Joseph Xavier – a handy lower order batsman and a good fielder. He could not play many games this season due to Uni commitments. Substitute players – last but not the least, our team appreciates the efforts of several substitute players who helped us fielding the full team in many matches throughout the season. Rajamohan, Captain BEST BATSMAN: Rahul Tamilarasan BEST BOWLER: Mike Griffin BEST ALL ROUNDER: Justin Donnelly
