The Princeton Region is an idyllic area filled with abundant amenities, including world-class hotels and conference centers, restaurants, museums, historic sites, music festivals, and first-rate sports arenas. All of this is located within an hour of two major metropolitan areas - New York and Philadelphia. The flourishing Princeton Region continues to be the choice of people who want to experience American history in a diverse and exciting atmosphere. The Township of West Windsor lies centrally on the eastern border of Mercer County. It is surrounded by Princeton Township to the north, by Plainsboro Township and East Windsor Townships to the east, by Robbinsville Township to the south, and Hamilton and Lawrence Townships to the west. West Windsor was initially established in 1682 when William Penn signed a treaty with the Lenni Lenape. In 1731, the area was known as New Windsor Township and it included Princeton Township, Princeton Borough, and East Windsor. In 1737, the area was sold by Penn’s heirs to the Schenk and Covenhoven families who were Dutch farmers. In 1751, it became the Township of Windsor. A college town, West Windsor serves as a home for many Princeton University administrators and is made up of seven villages, each with a rich history. The most famous is Grovers Mill, which was mentioned in Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds radio broadcast on Oct. 30, 1938. 1 IOR Global Services • All Rights Reserved Worldwide Princeton Region Overview • Princeton Region History • Official Princeton Township Website • Princeton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau • Current Weather in Princeton, NJ West Windsor Community Links • Mercer County Library- West Windsor Branch • Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company • West Windsor Arts Council • West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance • West Windsor Community Farmers Market • West Windsor Historic Bike Trail • West Windsor Parking Authority • Princeton Area League of Women Voters Neighboring Community Links • Borough of Hightstown • East Windsor Township • Hamilton Township • Lawrence Township • Princeton Township • Robbinsville Township • Trenton Utilities Information Depending on the location of the property where you choose to live, utility services may be provided by a combination of entities. Urgent Care Centers An Urgent Care Center is different than a Hospital Emergency Room. An Emergency room would be in an absolute emergency. You may visit an Urgent Care Center if, for example, you have a terrible ear ache and need medicine immediately but your Primary Care Physician's office is closed. Many Urgent Care Centers have extended hours and are open early morning until late evening during the week and also some weekend hours. Be sure to refer back to your health insurance company to clarify which urgent care centers and primary care physicians you are allowed to visit using your health insurance. Your insurance card should have a toll-free 1-800 number on the back for you to call and ask questions and clarify which urgent care center would be closest for you. Please always carry your insurance card with you! 4 IOR Global Services • All Rights Reserved Worldwide Safety and Security in Princeton While Princeton is relatively safe, it is still a major college town.
