BCS WEATHER DELAYED OPENINGS AND EARLY CLOSINGS

During inclement weather, please check local media, the Berkeley County Schools website, and/or your NTouch messages (if you have subscribed) concerning the status of school closings or delayed openings. Do not call the school or the Board of Education Office as these lines must be kept free for emergency communications and for administrative use.

It is most important that every family have a contingency plan for children in the case of early closings or delayed openings if no one is home at the time the students return or leave for school. When school has been delayed, students should not arrive at the school earlier than the announced opening time since school staff may also be arriving late. When school is dismissed early, it is the parent's responsibility to inform children as to where they should go upon dismissal. Check the BCS website www.berkeleycountyschools.org for up to date information about closings and delays.

As we begin to experience early dismissals, delays and closings, please monitor more than one media source for the status of Berkeley County Schools. No one source is foolproof!

When a closing, dismissal or delay is eminent, begin monitoring multiple media outlets and websites for updated information. Most media sources post weather -related information on their websites.

Regarding NTouch – If you would like to receive NTouch messages from Berkeley County Schools (BCS), you may register by visiting the BCS website and clicking on NTouch to sign up. If you are already registered as an NTouch user, please log on to your account and update your information if you have not already done so this school year. Ntouch messages are available via email and or text message. Please enter a personal email address in your NTouch account contact details. You may also enter a cell phone number to receive text messages. Yes, you will be charged by your cell service provider for these messages. (Consult your carrier for more information on charges.) The text messages will appear on your phone originating from (EZComm) 878787. The West Department of Ed also has a notification system that you can register for by visiting wvde.state.wv.us/closings/.
