Annagh 2008.Pdf Season’s Greetings s the year draws to a close, we know that the Annagh Magazine will shortly be available. With it will come information on Athe past and the present. Turning the pages of Annagh will give readers a profile of our parish, our parishioners and a pic- ture of the way we live our lives today and the way people have done so in the past. It will speak of things that mean a lot to the people of this parish and to all who have any connection with the parish and for this we thank the editorial committee who have devoted so much time and energy to compiling the magazine. This year we are happy to record that we had a very successful two week parish mission last February. Every house in the parish was visited by a mission team; other teams spent most of the first week in both the Community School and Scoil Iosa and made a big impression on both teachers and students. It was a great experience for the parish and could not have been done without the involvement of the Parish Pastoral Council and so many volunteers. We would like to thank all of those, the people who provided accommodation, who organised catering, who acted as guides and provided transport for visitation. We thank also choirs, Ministers of the Eucharist, Readers, Mass servers, Sacristan for con- tributing to such a memorable occasion. This year we said farewell to Fr. Kieran Burke who left us after five years to take up a new position as Parish Priest of Leenane. We thank him for his work in Ballyhaunis and we pray that God will bless his work in his new appointment. He has been replaced by Fr. Benny MacHale and we wish him every blessing and happiness in Ballyhaunis. I thank Annagh Magazine for giving me the opportunity to wish all Ballyhaunis people, at home and abroad, a very happy and peaceful Christmas and every blessing in the New Year. Add in all the training sessions and discussions associated with each team and the impact of this voluntary activity is truly enormous. As the country faces into difficult economic times, it is heartening to see such endeavour complemented with characteristics like passion, spirit and hope. These qualities are not in short supply in Ireland and if we can harness them properly we will overcome our problems. The club itself was overcome with joy in 2010 with the marvellous four-in-a-row senior hurling titles – an achievement that places the club among the ranks of great clubs.

    PROGRAMME PLUS – VOL. 2, NUMBER 3, APRIL 7 th , 2017 Hello readers, and welcome to the third edition of ‘Programme Plus’ so far this year, and the 15th in total. This information bulletin received another welcome boost in the programme for that classic Allianz NHL game between Tipperary and Kilkenny in Semple Stadium recently when avid reader and collector Seamus O’Doherty devoted three very interesting pages to our hobby. The piece was embellished by the stylish layout deployed by Tom Beirne, with the use of various images bringing the text to life. Thanks to the initiative shown by Seamus, the spotlight was shone on programme collecting at one of the biggest games of the year thus far, and I received numerous e- mails in the days that followed from additional personnel requesting inclusion on the mailing list. There was a crowd in excess of 14,000 for the game, and the programme was a sell-out. Now, there’s an endorsement for the worth of the ‘Pick Up A Programme’ scheme if ever I saw one. A couple of collectors had offered their services for the match, and if you made contact and asked for assistance you have no worries as regards procuring the programme. On the other hand, if you didn’t bother, and didn’t attend the game in person, then you might find it difficult to get the programme now! The moral of the story? When help is offered, take it at every opportunity! Regular readers will recall the journey I took before Christmas, covering hundreds of miles all over the country primarily in my desire to procure the numerous club histories published in 2016.

    Draft Mayo County Development Plan 2021-2027 CHAPTER 2 CORE AND SETTLEMENT STRATEGY 2.1 Introduction The Core Strategy and Settlement Strategy for the County Development Plan has been prepared through extensive collaboration between the Forward Planning team, Elected Members and all relevant sections of the Council. It has also been informed by the National Planning Framework (NPF), the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Northern and Western Region, the UN Sustainable Goals and the Strategic Economic Drivers influencing the sustainable future growth of County Mayo over the lifetime of the plan and beyond. The challenge is to build on the unique dispersed settlement characteristics of Mayo, in order to provide a balance, link and synergy between the rural countryside and urban settlements of the County. This will be realised through the following vision for County Mayo and the strategic aims set out below. 2.2 Vision of County Mayo ‘To create a sustainable and competitive county that supports the health and well-being of the people of Mayo, providing an attractive destination, as a place in which to live, work, invest, do business and visit, offering high quality employment and educational opportunities within strong and vibrant sustainable communities, whilst ensuring a transition to a low carbon and climate resilient county that supports high environmental quality.’ 2.3 Strategic Aims The strategic aims which relate to the advancement of this vision, are set out hereunder for each chapter of Volume 1 of the County Development Plan. The Plan aims to build on previous successes and to strengthen Mayo’s strategic advantage as a county, to ensure that we meet the needs of our citizens, communities, built and natural environments, infrastructure and economic/employment development to their full potential, while combatting and adapting to climate change.
