2016 ANNUAL REPORT // 13 FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS// Seattle Chamber Music Society began 35 years ago when founder Toby Saks created a small summer festival of chamber music concerts at Lakeside School in 1982. That first two-week festival featured 6 concerts and 11 musicians. Today, SCMS has grown to a two-week Winter and four-week Summer Festival of 18 concerts and 18 Pre-Concert Recitals with over 60 musicians at the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall. Each Festival also offers numerous community and educational events throughout Seattle, including Family Concerts, broadcasts of each Summer Festival concert into Seattle Parks, and a free, live Chamber Music in the Park concert.

SCMS has established an Endowment Fund to help our organization present the highest caliber of artistic programming and education and community engagement programs.

The $2.1 million fund is professionally managed by a legally and fiscally separate Foundation, which controls distributions of interest generated income to support our operating budget.
