Bellerive Country Club St. Louis, MO Golf Course Superintendent Bellerive Country Club St. Louis, MO Golf Course Superintendent Bellerive Country Club was founded in 1897 on the north side of St. Louis. The Membership decided to move west in 1955, and hired renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. to design the “Green Monster of Ladue Road” which opened on Memorial Day, 1960. In 1965, Bellerive became the “youngest” course to ever host the U.S. Open. Gary Player won the event (completing his career grand slam) and then donated his check to charity. In 1981, Bellerive hosted the inaugural Mid-Amateur Championship that was won by St. Louis native Jim Holtgrieve. Nick Price captured his first major by winning the PGA Championship in 1992. The 2001 American Express World Golf Championship, scheduled for September of that year, was cancelled due to the events of 9-11. Major championship golf returned to Bellerive in 2004 when the U.S. Senior Open was won by Peter Jacobsen. The golf course then underwent a year-long renovation with Rees Jones, son of original architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. In 2008, Bellerive hosted the BMW Championship as part of the FedEx Cup playoffs, in which Camilo Villegas had his first career tour victory. In May 2013, Bellerive will host the Senior PGA Championship and become only the third venue to host all four of the country's rotating major championships - the Senior PGA Championship, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and the U.S. Senior Open. Bellerive will then host the Centennial PGA Championship in 2018.
