Who Are We

Our mission is to engage voices to create change in the prevention, intervention, and response to domestic violence, dating abuse, stalking, and sexual assault.

The Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence works to be a leader in the movement to end violence against women and girls, men and boys - across the life span before violence has occurred – because violence is preventable.

Our work is to create healthy relationships and compassionate communities.

Our work is to build the capacity of programs, organizations, and systems through learning communities to provide safe, compassionate, trauma- informed, inclusive and accessible services to adolescents and adults and their children exposed to violence and to increase offender accountability.

What We Believe

Inclusive and Diverse All forms of oppression – including but not limited to patriarchy, sexism, racism, ableism, classism, ageism, adultism, heterosexism, and religions oppression – create a culture which enables violence to occur. We value inclusiveness and diversity and believe that the voices and experiences of all human beings are vital in preventing violence.

Catalytic Collaboration No one organization offers all the solutions and we believe in forging new collaborations, coming together with a wide range of partners and creating new approaches.

Violence is Preventable Violence is preventable and all individuals have the right to healthy, life- affirming relationships demonstrated by respect, trust, safety, equality, mutuality, individuality, support, acceptance, and caring and everyone has the right to live in a thriving compassionate community without fear or the threat of violence.

Capacity Building Comprehensive, integrated and multi-disciplinary approaches that are well designed, and reflect and respond to diverse community needs and assets are essential.

Social Change Everyone has the power to create change in the prevention, intervention, and response to domestic violence, relationship abuse, stalking, and sexual assault. It is essential that the Idaho Coalition be a highly adaptive organization, receptive to outside signals, agile enough to change course, and flexible enough to respond to new opportunities in order to stay relevant, effective, and achieve social change. Recognition

Start Strong Idaho: Building Healthy Teen Relationships, a project of the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence and our partners St. Luke’s, the Idaho Department of Education and other youth and domestic violence organizations, was featured in an article in June 2012 on the front page of The New York Times National Section. Start Strong Idaho was part of a national initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to promote healthy teen relationships as a way to prevent teen dating abuse.

The article A Warning to Teenagers Before They Start Dating by Jan Hoffman featured the innovative work of Start Strong Idaho and included comment by Kelly Miller, Executive Director and Melissa Ruth, LCPC, with the Idaho Coalition, Start Strong teen activists Laura Hampikian and Sarah Hope Leonard, and Patti Bellan, a Riverglen Junior High Health teacher and member of the STart Strong Idaho Executive Committee. The article also recognized U.S. Senator Mike Crapo national leadership as one of the national leaders in the prevention of teen dating abuse.

Although funding for Start Strong Idaho ended in November 2012, the work of Start Strong Idaho to promote healthy teen relationships for 11-to-14 year olds will continue under the Idaho Coalition’s Center for Healthy Teen Relationships.
