Cross Country Team Wins Big Sky Cross Country Team Wins Big Sky A total team effort is the best way to describe tht 1977 Boise State Cross Country Team. This effort enabled the Cross Country Team to win the Big Sky Conference Title and place in the top twenty at the NCAA Cross Country meet. Top: Steve Collier is congratulated on a good time by Glen Lorensen, Jim Van Dine and Coach Ed Jacoby. Standing: Jim Van Dine, Glen Lorensen, Mark Tappen, Karl Knapp, and Coach Ed Jacoby. 31 Bronco Basketball 1977 Dispite a disappointing season the Boise State Bas ketball Team grew in both experience and matu rity. The talents of the individuals started to jell into a unit while Boise State fans saw a lot of exciting games. They also saw a team that has to be considered one of the stronger teams next year after losing only one of the staring five to gradua tion. The Broncos were led by Steve Conor's 39 points for the two games. Top: Trent Johnson and Steve Con nor prepare the team for action. Bottom: Danny Jones soars high for the ball. 33 Broncos Drop A Pair To I.S.U. Led by seven foot senior Steve Hayes the Idaho State Bengals beat the Boise State Bronces; 73 to 60 and 99 to 85. The score may indicate a lopsided game but in reality, if a couple of calls went the other way the scores could have been reversed with the Bronces on top. Top: Danny Jones goes high as he shoots for two. Bottom Left: Wally Foster plays tough defense. Bottom Right: Kevin Goetz goes up for a rebound while Wally Foster looks on. 34 Broncos Stumble, Weber Wins Two Up until the last couple of minutes it was close but the Bronces dropped both Conference games to Weber State. The Wildcats used a four corner stall the last couple of minutes which meant the Bronces had to foul to get the ball, thus the point system increased. Left: Danny Jones jumps against Weber while Steve Connor looks for the tap his way. Right: Steve Barrett goes up for two points. 35 Boise State Comes Close To Victory Over N.A.U. \mvsmwdMI I . This was not to be, after a hard fought back and forth game the Bronces lost by five, 72 to 67. Top: Steve Connor uses his jump shot for two points. Bottom Left: Trent Johnson plays tough defense. Bottom Right: Dan Jones out jumps Montana center. 37 Broncos Have Tough Time With Bobcats After winning in overtime on their home court the Bronces traveled to Montana and had a tough time of it as they got beat 87 to 73. The Bronces were led by Danny Jones' sixteen points and nine rebounds. Top: Kevin Goetz demonstrates how he dunks the basketball. Bottom Right: Danny Jones demonstrates his technique of dunking the basketball. Bottom Left: Coach Connor and Assistant Coach Burt Golden show their disap pointment with the referees. am I§§|§1 Boise State Gets Revenge After losing a heartbreaker to Gonzaga on their home court, Boise State soundly beat them at home. There were a couple of high points in the game; Boise State hit the century mark and Junior guard Steve Connor became the new Ail-Time scorer replacing Ron Austin. Top: Steve Connor drives to the basket. Bottom Left: Danny Jones goes over everybody for two points. Bottom Right: Trent Johnson goes through three Gonzaga players for two points, as Steve Barrett looks on. 39 Boise State Wins Two Over Vandals After beating the Vandals easily on their home court the Bronces relied on graduating senior Kevin Goetz's sixteen points and ten rebounds to beat the Vandals 61 to 60. It was a fitting finish for Goetz's one year career at Boise State as he led the team in both scoring and rebounding in the game. Top: John Mayfield goes for the block while Kevin Goe-iz looks for the rebound.
