März 2010 1 / 6 Marktzahlen der Interaktiven Entertainment Branche der Schweiz Solides Weihnachtsgeschäft bremst Verkaufsrückgang Nach Jahren ungebrochenen Wachstums hat der Markt für Computer- und Videospiele im vergangenen Jahr den Rückgang erfahren, der den ungünstigen wirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen entspricht. Bei einem Minus von 5,8% verzeichnete der Gesamtmarkt 2009 einen Umsatz von insgesamt 382,4 Mio. CHF. Das vierte Quartal, das in der Regel für rund die Hälfte der Jahreseinnahmen sorgt, trotzte der getrübten Konsumentenstimmung. Vor allem das Weihnachts- und Jahresendgeschäfts trug zu einem soliden Wachstum von 1,1% bei. Zusammen mit dem leichten Plus von 3% im ersten Quartal konnten so die Einbrüche des zweiten (-21,2%) und dritten Quartals (-15,8%) einigermassen aufgefangen werden. Im internationalen Vergleich stehen die im Schweizer Markt erzielten Ergebnisse zwischen Deutschland (-3%) und dem weltgrössten Markt, den USA (-8%). Grossbritannien als grösster europäischer Markt erreichte ein um 18% tieferes Ergebnis. Konsolen: Der Umsatz mit stationären und mobilen Spielkonsolen lag 2009 mit 144,5 Mio. CHF 10,0% hinter dem Vorjahr zurück. Preisreduktionen bei den stationären Konsolen, von denen mit 277'135 Stück 12% mehr abgesetzt wurden, hielten die Umsatzverluste dieses Segments bei 9%. Beim mobilen Gaming fielen die Einbussen mit 13% etwas deutlicher aus und betrafen beide Systeme (PSP und DS). Im vierten Quartal 2009 wurden 13% mehr Konsolen verkauft als im Vorjahresquartal. Insbesondere die PS3 Slim setzte mit einem gesteigerten Umsatz von 18% deutliche Akzente. Infolge des tieferen durchschnittlichen Verkaufspreises blieb der Umsatz aller Konsolen mit -2,1% aber geringfügig unter der Vergleichsperiode. Games: Der Markt für Computer- und Videospiele zeigte sich insgesamt etwas resistenter: Der Umsatz ging gegenüber dem Vorjahr um 3% auf 237,9 Mio. CHF zurück. Im Plus lagen einzig die Spiele für stationäre Konsolen mit 3%, während die PC-Games (-6%) und die Spiele für mobile Konsolen (-16%) rückläufig waren. Im vierten Quartal waren die Spiele der Wachstumstreiber. Sowohl beim Absatz (Stückzahlen) als auch beim Umsatz lag das Wachstum bei rund 3,5% im Vergleich zum Vorjahresquartal. Der Blick auf die Game-Charts zeigt, dass der Trend zum familienfreundlichen Casual oder Social Gaming anhält. Die fünf meist verkauften Spiele – dazu zählen jene der Mario-Franchise, Wii-Sport und Fifa – sind alle ab drei Jahren frei gegeben. Ausblick: Für das laufende Jahr erwartet die Branche eine Stabilisierung der Umsätze auf dem Niveau von 2009. Peter Züger, Präsident der SIEA, sieht neben der sich erholende Konsumentenstimmung die Innovationen als wichtigste Stütze: „Wir erwarten weitere Neuheiten im Bereich der einfacheren Steuerung ohne Controller. Beim ‚Projekt Natal’ von Microsoft handelt es sich beispielsweise um eine neu entwickelte Hardware zur Bedienung der Konsole. Dabei werden Stimme, Gesichtsausdruck und die Bewegungen des Spielers in 3D erfasst und steuern die Software. Sony wird im Verlauf des Jahres ebenfalls einen Motion Controller bringen und hat ausserdem 3D-Gaming mit der PS3 angekündigt. Auch neue Spielkonzepte und Games erschliessen breitere Zielgruppen. Notice of 2005 Annual Meeting Proxy Statement and 2005 Annual Report TO OUR STOCKHOLDERS: Chairman’s Letter Chairman’s EA's Ñscal year 2005 was highlighted by exciting new games from our creative teams and important initiatives for extending our leadership into the next generation. We invested in people and processes, forged long-term agreements with strategic partners, introduced new franchise properties and extended our portfolio onto promising new platforms. Our net revenue was $3.1 billion Ì up six percent and gross margin was 61.8 percent. Operating income was down 14 percent to $669 million. Operating margin was 21 percent. Operating cash Öow was $634 million, our return on invested capital was 60 percent and diluted earnings per share were $1.59. In the third quarter we announced a $750 million stock repurchase program which is now in process. This year, EA published 31 titles that sold more than a million copies worldwide Ì four more than last year Ì and the average score critics gave our games positioned us among the industry's elite developers. Despite renewed competitive pressure, EA SPORTSTM titles increased their share of the sports category to a record 63 percent, and we successfully launched two new sports properties Ì FIFA Street and Fight Night. Our Club PogoTM online site continues to grow with more than 840,000 active players, including 780,000 paying members, at the end of our Ñscal year Ì the majority of whom are women. The Club Pogo subscription site maintains a strong growth curve toward what we expect will be more than one million subscribers.
