COPPERMINE BOX LEAGUE BOYS RULES

EQUIPMENT All sticks must be NCAA attack length (40-42”), except for goalie stick. No long sticks are allowed. All other NCAA rules for legal sticks apply. Rules for Goalie sticks are same as NCAA. Players must wear full lacrosse equipment-helmets (with cage), shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, protective cup, and colored mouth guards. Goalies must wear throat guard, chest protector and protective cup. Box Goalie equipment will be provided by Coppermine for each goalie at each game. GOALS are 4’ (high) x 4’6” (wide). Players: 5 Runners and 1 Goalie. (6 v 6)

GAMES • Each half starts with a face-off, with two players in the offensive end and two players in the defensive end, behind their restraining lines. • Only the 2 face-off players allowed in the center circle until possession is gained. • After each goal, possession is awarded to a runner at goal line extended and referee whistles to resumes play. • Substitutions are made freely, a substitute may not enter the field until the player he is replacing is within the team’s transition zone. • Two- 24 minute halves, running clock, with 3 minutes in between each half. • Shot Clock: From time of possession- 45 seconds to get a shot on net or score a goal. • Tie games will be played out with a 3 minute sudden victory with 5 runners and no goalies.

PENALTIES • Major penalties will be 1 – 3 min. full time. • Minor penalties will be 1 – 3 min. releasable time. • Any player who gets 4 minutes of penalty time will foul out of the game. • NO BOARDING another player. • NO CROSS CHECKING or Slashing. • No over-the-head checks, “take-out” checks, or checking from behind. • A moving pick is allowed only when the screened player is moving and more than two steps are taken by the offensive player before setting the pick. • The ball can be kicked but not for a goal.

• Penalty time will run off the game clock and starts when the penalized player is in the penalty box. • The non-offending team restarts play with possession of the ball near the center of the floor. • There will never be a 5 v 2 situation. If a third penalty is called against a team, the other team will get one penalty shot. • Any players being consistently penalized each week will be handled by officials and league directors.

Goalie Penalty: If a goaltender commits a technical or personal foul, the penalty may be served by another player and the goaltender remains in the game. If a goaltender commits a major foul and is expelled from the game, all rules pertaining to major fouls are in effect.

Crease violations: Penalty- If you go through the other team’s crease and touch the goalie. Lose Possession-If you go into the other team’s crease to cut through or shoot.

6 Point Rule: 6 point or more difference in the score- Team with the lower score begins play with possession at the midline.
