Please take a few moments to read through the following instructions and information. If you have any queries or questions, please let us know by contacting us at [email protected] – you can also keep up-to-date by following us on Twitter @chewvalley10k and Facebook.

This year, there are excellent views of the Start and Finish where your friends and family can cheer you on and we have attached a map of the car parks as well as Race HQ and the Start and Finish locations. There will be restricted access around the course, as some roads are closed during the event and those open, we would like to keep as traffic free as possible for everyone’s safety, so please try to avoid using these.

We ask that for the safety of runners and spectators, you follow the instructions of the marshals, especially as we are not traffic-free in the middle section of the route. Do not obstruct runners, race officials or information signs and remember that for your safety, earphones and music devices are not permitted.

Enjoy the warm support of the spectators and the beautiful scenery and when you have completed the 10k run - please don’t rush off. There are dance demonstrations at 10.55am, the 10k prize giving is at 11.15am on the Village Field, followed by the children’s mass warm up and 1k Rio Run on the Village field at 11.30am, with 250 younger runners. At Race HQ, you can enjoy the Pre-School’s homemade cakes, Chew Valley Rugby Club’s legendary bacon butties and Chew Moos award winning ice creams to help replenish your glycogen levels. There is the free physiotheraphy service at Race HQ to tend to those aching muscles, face painting and bouncy castle fun and the Tennis club’s mini- matches.

Official photography this year at the lovely Chew Valley 10k by event photographers Photo-Fit.net. Just go to their website www.photo-fit.net to register to be notified when your photos are online. Downloads and prints available.

Finally, we ask you to respect the local residents, park at the designated sites and take all rubbish home. Without the support of our local community, this race would not be possible.

Thank you, good luck and enjoy the event!

Race HQ, Registration, Start and Finish details

Registration is available on Saturday 18th June from 2.00 – 5.00pm in the Village hall and on race day from 7.30am, where runners can collect their race number, chip timing device and free tech tshirt.

Please securely attach your chip to your running shoe and take time to complete the medical and identification information on the reverse side of your race number. If you have an existing medical problem which might require special attention, such as epilepsy, diabetes or a history of heart problems, please mark the front of your race number worn on your vest with a red cross and write details, including any medication, on the reverse. We have safety pins available for you.

Supervised kit storage is available at Race HQ, with all items left at owner’s risk.

We have limited changing rooms and showering facilities at Race HQ and there are toilets located both inside and outside the hall. We also have a mass warm up on the Village field at 9.00am, lasting approximately 10 minutes by Ross Elliott, our official 10k Fitness Trainer and one of our sponsors.

Please remember that your race number and chip timing device are programmed with your details and on NO account should you swop or change either your number or chip with someone else. Any details that require amending can be done prior to the race at Race Registration in the Village hall.

The accuracy of our results is dependent on the information contained on your number and chip and any runner who does not abide by these rules will be removed from the race results.

Start The 10k starts directly outside the Village Hall at 9.30am – please be in position ten minutes before, to allow for a prompt start. Please observe the directions of the start marshals and we request that all entrants place themselves in an appropriate time zone once at the start to prevent barging at the starting signal. Late arrivals will need to start from the back of the grid, regardless of expected time.

Finish Although we are using electronic timing equipment and video, marshals at the finish will also take your time and finish position. This is purely a backup, but it is important for the accuracy of results that you line up in the order you crossed the finishing line. There will be a Race clock by the finish line so use this for an immediate guide if necessary. Real time results for the 10k will be available at Race HQ and at www.dbmax.co.uk and there is a smartphone results service linked to the online results page. Every participant will be able to access an individual results page to show their times and view your personal finish video as well. Finally, we ask that you do not leave the finish pens until a marshal has removed your timing chip and don’t forget your Eat Natural bar, banana and bottled water (thank you A. David & Co!) First Aid is also available here.

Please read the medical advice page carefully. First Aid posts are situated at the Main Village Hall site and at 5K and 8K as well as medical support at the start / finish areas. If you experience difficulty stop running and seek out the nearest marshal and request help. A vehicle will be available to pick up entrants who are unable to complete the course and will return them to Race HQ. If you do drop out, it is important you assist us by reporting your name and race number to one of our marshals.

Results and Prize giving We have lots of age categories and so, lots of trophy winners! Please stay and support the 2016 winners at our trophy presentations, which will take place at 11.15am at Race HQ, where the results will also be available.

Results will be available online from http://dbmaxresults.co.uk/results.aspx?CId=16421&RId=4107 soon after the race.

Medical Advice

As already stated, if you have an existing medical problem which might require special attention, please mark a large red cross in red pen on the front of the race number worn on your vest and write details, including any medication, on the reverse.

Do not run if you are unwell or have just been unwell. Most medical problems occur in people who have been ill and are not fully recovered. If you feel feverish, have been vomiting, had severe diarrhoea or chest pains, or otherwise feel under the weather, become a spectator and support those running from the comfort of the Village Hall site.

Remember to replace fluids lost in sweat, we have an early start time, but the June sun can be intense even by 10:00. If you do not take on enough fluid your body will become dehydrated and less efficient. Drink plenty of fluids after training and during the race. There are two water stations placed on the course at 3.8k and 6k, please use them.

First Aid is situated at Race HQ on the field behind the main hall and the Medical Director will be at Race HQ throughout the event. Please be advised he may already be dealing with a medical issue, but will ensure his team provide any requirement for medical support. If you need to drop out on the 10k route and cannot easily make your way back to the finish on foot, go to the nearest marshal, or await the sweep vehicle which will return you to Race HQ.

At the finish, don’t stand about and get cold. Keep walking and ‘warm down’ gradually. Drink as much fluid as you can to replace that which has been lost. Water bottles will be provided for all runners at the finish and at Race HQ there are refreshments, BBQ, ice creams and snacks. There is also a complimentary banana and Eat Natural bar for all finishers too!

Don’t forget, we have a physio working on the morning of the race located in the Village Hall who will tend those aching muscles.

And Finally…

Have a great run - the scenery is beautiful, the hill steep (but short), the welcome back loud and the cakes amazing – enjoy!

Best wishes,

The Chew Valley 10k and 1k Team
