October/November 2004 August / September 2014 Adstock Clarion 1 Vine Cottage, West Street, Adstock (01296 713457) 1, Greenfields, Adstock (01296 712561) This won’t make a lot of sense to many – unless you were there!! EATING IN THE FIFTIES Pasta had not been invented. Olive oil was kept in the medicine cabinet. A takeaway was a mathematical problem. A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower. Bananas and oranges only appeared at Christmas time. All crisps were plain; the only choice was to put salt on or not. Soft drinks were called pop. Coke was something that we mixed with coal to make it last longer. A Chinese chippy was a foreign carpenter. Rice was a milk pudding, and never part of our dinner. A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining. A microwave was something out of a science fiction movie. Oil was for lubricating your bike not for cooking, fat was for cooking. The tea cosy was the forerunner of all the energy saving devices we have today Prunes were purely medicinal. Surprisingly, muesli was readily available in those days, it was called cattle feed. We didn't eat Croissants, because we couldn't pronounce them, couldn't spell them, and we did not know what they were. Special food for dogs and cats was unheard of. Sauce was either brown or red. Water came out of a tap, if someone had suggested bottling it and charging treble for it they would have become a laughing stock. HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED ! Wishing you all a happy holiday. This year the main attractions are the Kangaroo Kids Quad Bike Stunt Team, RAF Halton Pipes & Drums, Vintage Tractors, The Sheep Show, Horse, Cattle, Sheep and Home and Garden Classes, Rural Crafts, over two hundred trade stands including the Shopping Marquee and the Food Hall. As in previous years, tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount www.buckscountyshow.co.uk Thames Valley Police warning over courier scam Incidents of ‘Courier Fraud’ continue to be reported across Aylesbury Vale and Thames Valley Police would like to remind residents to be on their guard against this type of scam. The scam is as follows:- The victim receives an unsolicited telephone call from the fraudsters claiming to be their bank (or in some cases the police), stating that their systems have spotted a fraudulent payment on their card or that their card is due to expire and needs to be replaced. The person may be asked to ring back using the phone number printed on the back of their bank card. This helps to convince the person that the call is genuine. However, the fraudster has kept the telephone line open so even though the person has called the bank, the call does not go through. Instead they are unknowingly connected straight back to the fraudster. The fraudster gains the person’s trust by pretending to offer assistance. In many cases the person is asked to provide their full bank card details and key in their PIN so that the existing card can be cancelled and their new one activated or authorised. The fraudster will then explain that the bank will need to collect the card. The fraudster will then attend the person’s address or send an innocent courier company driver to collect the card and sometimes provide them with a replacement card which is subsequently found to be fake. Therefore, the fraudster has obtained the person’s name, address, full bank details, their card(s) and the PIN(s). The bank cards are then used fraudulently. Police advice is that if you receive such a call, end it immediately. Thornborough / Coombes Community Wood Bucks County Council and Thornborough Parish Council have asked us to publicise the following: Last week, two large horses were seen riding at speed up the long straight ride which runs all the way up the Adstock Road, immediately inside the road hedge, from the T junction at the Coombs. It must have been a lovely gallop, although fairly dangerous given that people and dogs can literally just nip out at any point, but various local concerns were raised. Male and female riders, who were obviously together, when challenged, said that it was fine as “the PC” had said so. Because of issues with ground conditions and other users of the site, BCC has 5 always prohibited any horse access to all of the Community Woodland. There is a general local belief that as the whole area is “public”, including Coombs farm which is tenanted and off limits, anything goes as ‘ it’s people’s right’. Whenever BCC can, it has challenged this, i.e. it’s not ok to nick hay, wood, gates, fence materials etc; nor is it ok to empty your dog at will, but the issue pervades. Notices will be put up and if any villager knows who the horse riders are / were please could you let any Parish Councillor or the Clerk know. Finally, hay making will commence in several of the grassy spaces within the woodland soon. It is the best way of getting rid of the grass whilst limiting negative impacts. Users should be aware there may be large machinery about, it’s done for all the right reasons, and BCC will be coming down hard on folks who persist in letting dogs foul onto the crop. Advance Warning - Adstock Junction Drainage In response to numerous repeated requests from the Parish Council, Bucks County Council will be carrying out improvement work at the Adstock junction in the next 8 weeks (A413 entrance to village). The works will involve digging out the pond in the centre of the junction and the ditch on the other side. The existing pipework will be jetted and repairs to the footway and kerbs as well as installation of hazard marker posts around the junction island.

  • AVDC Sub Groups Local Lettings Policy
AVDC local lettings policy Scheme details Development/Estate name Any general need housing to which AVDC has nomination rights (excluding Rural Exception Schemes). RSL Any Local Lettings Policy – 15 May 2014 Commencement Date End Date To be reviewed in May 2015 Total number of properties in N/a estate/development Number of properties subject to proposed 50% of new build properties Local Lettings Policy 25% of re let properties Property type and number of beds and Nos. of Supported Rented Intermediate persons units Housing General need, re-let properties 25% of N/a Y N total General need, new build properties 50% of N/a Y N total Justification for local lettings policy Choice based lettings means that qualifying applicants are able to choose to express interest in any properties which become available and are the appropriate size and match their needs. Applicants who express interest in properties are then prioritised by their level of housing need (Bands A- D) and then how long they have been on the Housing Register. No consideration has previously been given to where in the District the applicant is from or where the property is located. Following previous direction from Members at Environment and Living Scrutiny Committee officers developed a scheme which was subsequently approved at cabinet and council. This scheme divides Aylesbury Vale into four ‘sub groups’ and allows some extra preference to be given to applicants with a connection to their local community. For the purposes of this local lettings policy, Aylesbury Vale is split into four groups, (Greater Aylesbury, North, South West and South East) which are broadly consistent with current LAF (local area forum) areas.

  • Annual Parish Meeting 2018 Minutes
MINUTES FROM THE PADBURY PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL PARISH MEETING – 23rd May 2018 The Annual Parish Meeting of Padbury Parish Council was held on Wednesday 23rd May, at 7.30pm, at the Pavilion, Springfields, Padbury. Those present were: Cllrs Long, Dickens, Murray, Williamson, Burton and Morris, Cllr John Chilver, Cllr Llew Monger, Mrs Jo Bursell and Mr John Wrigley. Apologies were received from Cllrs Roberts and Renshell. The meeting was opened by Cllr Long, Chair of the Parish Council, and the minutes of the 2017 Annual Parish Meeting were agreed and accepted. Chair’s report Introduction I was elected Chairman in January 2018, replacing Cllr Ken Roberts who had to stand down for personal reasons. We all give him our grateful thanks for his leadership and commitment to the Council and to the Village throughout his tenure as Chairman. The aim of this report is to reflect on the activities of the Parish Council over the past year. Policy and Governance The Council continues to receive support from our Ward Councillors, and we are always thankful for their guidance and advice. The two major issues over the past year have been the implementation of GDPR and the proposal for a new Unitary Authority. The latter has been debated by both the County council and AVDC, and the decision to “modernise and simplify Local Government” now rests with the Secretary of State. Routine Business We would like to express our grateful thanks to Deborah O’Brien who stood in as Acting Parish Clerk on the resignation of Jo Bonney. Deborah remained in post until Rachel Taylor was appointed as Clerk to the Parish Council.

Broad of the North East London Polytechnic and Dr D. R. Mills of the Open University whose lectures on Bucks village society at Stowe School in April 1982 proved immensely illuminating. None of the above, of course, bear any responsibility for any errors of interpretation on my part.
