SUPPLEMENT TO THE RACING CALENDAR MAY 25th 2017 1 ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... ANGLO-IRISH JUMP CLASSIFICATIONS 2016-2017 This is the eighteenth full Anglo-Irish Jump Classification. It classifies the best steeplechasers and hurdlers that were trained in either Britain or Ireland during the 2016-2017 season, or in France if that performance was achieved in Britain or Ireland. It is not a handicap but a retrospective measurement of best sustainable performances during the recent season so there may be differences from current handicap marks. The classifications are for all chasers and hurdlers down to a rating of 140. The steeplechasers are divided into distance categories of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs, 2 miles 3 furlongs to 2 miles 6.5 furlongs and 2 miles 7 furlongs plus. They are included in the list in which the handicappers believe they have put up their best performance. The hurdle categories are similar except that they are divided into two distances of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs and 2 miles 3 furlongs plus. There is a separate classification identifying Novices rated 140 and above. Juvenile Hurdlers are included in the Novice section. Horses trained in Ireland have * appended after their name. Horses trained in France but have a performance at 140+ in Great Britain or Ireland have ** appended after their name. Mares are in italics. The ratings were agreed

  • The Card, She Is Trained by Gordon Elliott
the Weekend card The Sleeper Section Marten Julian Ifubelieveindreams (2yr Bay Filly) This daughter of Iffraaj missed the break and was a little keen towards the rear of the field on her racecourse debut at Lingfield. She then came back on the bridle and was travelling well on the final turn only to run into trouble and find herself tightened up on the rails. But for that she would have made the first three. From her pedigree and the evidence from this run she will be well suited to a mile. No immediate entries Just Minded (5yr Bay Gelding) 3rd 7/1, 3rd 11/10 Just Minded probably didn’t handle the heavy ground when third to De Dollar Man last time out at Ayr. The son of Kayf Tara won his bumper on good ground and then ran a promising third at Wetherby on ground given as good to soft. All that apart, Just Minded probably came up against a decent horse in the winner and I want us to stay with him for one more run hopefully on better ground. He may be one to keep in mind for the spring, perhaps at Aintree. No immediate entries Molly Carew (5yr Bay Mare) WON 33/1 Judging by the market weakness there did not seem to be much confidence behind Molly Carew when she won at Lingfield but it was evident from an early stage that she was travelling comfortably and going just as well as the long odds-on favourite between the last two. Having seen the way she quickened from the home bend before fading the time before at Plumpton I was very hopeful that she would find enough on the run-in to beat the favourite.

Last year’s winner Smad Place (Smadoun) made the running tracked by Many Clouds (Cloudings), jumping with his usual exuberance, and Thistlecrack, who made several jumpings errors. Many Clouds surged into the lead four fences out and, though Thistlecrack did his very best to overtake him in the battle to the line and briefly got his head in front, Many Clouds fought back, proving the World Champion Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) coasts home stronger in the closing stage to score by a head. Disaster struck in the inaugural Gr.1 Pegasus World Cup last night however, as, after crossing the line, Many Clouds collapsed. Initially, it was thought that he just required cooling off and today doing what he does best. He wanted to win that race, he was oxygen, as he had when he won the Gr.3 Grand National in 2015, beaten and then fought back in the last 50 yards to win. It’s sad for but it was subsequently revealed that he had failed to respond to Trevor and my team at Rhonehurst; I’ve been in the game 32 years treatment and died.
