Presented in the elegant intimacy of the Marines Memorial Club ballrooms, at 609 Sutter Street in San Francisco, the Sunday series features award-winning Broadway & recording star KAREN MASON performing a Valentines show on Feb. 4, 2007, and Grammy and Tony-nominated artist MAUREEN McGOVERN on May 6, 2007. Karen Mason “…is not the type of singer that just stands up and sings - each song is a dramatic display of her amazing talent.” (talkinbroadway.com) She has starred on Broadway, Off-Broadway, TV, and recording and is a 9-time MAC (Manhattan Association of Clubs) Award winner and winner of the 2006 Nightlife Award for Major Female Vocalist. She has headlined Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Feinstein's at The Regency, Rainbow & Stars, the Algonquin, The Supper Club and The Ballroom in NYC, The Cinegrill and the UCLA/ASCAP Concert Series in LA, The Plush Room in SF, Davenport's in Chicago as well as venues in the UK, Sweden, Brazil, Scotland, Tokyo and Osaka. She has shared concert stages with Luciano Pavarotti, Rosemary Clooney, Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Jerry Herman, John Kander & Fred Ebb, and starred with The New York Pops, The Chicagoland Pops, and other nationally renowned orchestras. Ms. Mason originated the role of Tanya (“the slut”) on Broadway in Abba's MAMMA MIA!, winning a 2002 Drama Desk nomination as Best Actress. Her other leading roles include Norma Desmond in SUNSET BOULEVARD, which she performed on Broadway and in LA for 3 years; Mazeppa in JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY, and Rosalie in CARNIVAL (Drama Desk nomination). Karen won the Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in AND THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND, and starred Off-Broadway in her own show KAREN MASON SINGS BROADWAY, BEATLES AND BRIAN. Her TV appearances include the hit dramas ED and LAW & ORDER: SVU. Film credits include SLEEPING DOGS LIE and A CHORUS LINE. In 2005, Karen released her fifth CD, SWEETEST OF NIGHTS, after winning the 2002 MAC Award for Major Female Recording of the Year for WHEN THE SUN COMES OUT.
