Steven Munger gestures to a bowl of noses. “Take one,” he offers, catching a visitor staring. “It’s what they’re there for.” The foam noses bear the logo of the University of Florida Center for Smell and Taste, which Munger directs. With UF Health, the university’s academic health center, the Center for Smell and Taste is launching one of the country’s only clinical programs for people with smell disorders, a problem that sounds insignificant until you’ve lived with it. ANOTHER VIEW Enforcing laws against illegal drugs ttorney Gen. Jeff Sessions doesn’t like mar- ijuana. He has made that clear on several A occasions. President Trump thinks the states should decide whether to make growing, selling and smoking pot against the law, and, like President Obama before him, doesn’t want to get involved. The attorney general works under the supervision of the man who appoints him, and last week Mr. Sessions announced that the United States would enforce federal law against marijuana. Several states have legalized marijuana, and this sets up a conflict, not only between the president and the attorney general, but between the states and the federal government. Arguments for and against the prosecution of laws against marijuana can now resume, and the most oft-repeated argument for leaving pot be is the argument that prosecution of drug laws has filled federal prisons to overflowing and the poor and minorities are in prison in greater numbers than the rich and famous. This is true, but poverty is no defense to wrongdoing. Critics of Mr. Sessions’ new enforcement policy argue that he is wrong under the terms of both the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the Constitution, and that drug policy should be left to the states. Leaving as many things as possible to the states is always a good idea. The states, after all, are where Oprah and her quacks everybody lives. From staff reports

Sixty-two Lake City teenagers of The Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints recently participated in an event entitled “Quest to Come Unto Christ.” The activity was held on property along and near the Suwannee River in northern Suwannee County. During the quest, the youth learned ways to “Come unto Christ” by studying the doctrine of Christ taught in the Book of Mormon. Activities included an 8-mile hike along the banks of the Suwannee River and multiple re-enactments from events in the Book of Mormon, culminating with Christ’s visit to the Americas. John-Luke Thomas, a youth from Lake City, said, “Going on the quest was a great experience, even though we walked over 8 miles in rain and very cold weather. It strengthened our faith in Christ.” There were approximately 30 adults who worked directly with the youth during the quest, and COURTESY many others who worked tirelessly Sixty-two Lake City teenagers recently participated in an event entitled “Quest to Come Unto Christ.” Among those taking part behind the scenes to plan and carry were Landon Roberts (front) and Megan Harrell (back, from left), Reilly Morse, Mckensie Eakens, Neiphi Thomas, Sarah Anderson, out the activity.
