Resumption of Domestic Flights (4/5/2020) The Tourism Authority of Thailand has provided the latest update from the Airports of Thailand (AOT) regarding the resumption of domestic flights at its airports, following over a month of temporary flight suspensions by several airlines as part of the efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Suvarnabhumi International Airport: Thai Vietjet Air has been operating as per normal over the past month, while Bangkok Airways will resume its Bangkok Samui service from 15 May 2020 onwards. Don Mueang International Airport: Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air have resumed domestic operations from 1 May 2020 onwards. Nok Air has been operating as per normal over the past month. Chiang Mai International Airport: Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Thai Vietjet Air and Nok Air have resumed domestic operations from 1 May 2020 onwards. Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport: Thai AirAsia, Thai Vietjet Air and Nok Air have resumed domestic operations from 1 May 2020 onwards. Hat Yai International Airport: Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, and Nok Air have resumed domestic operations from 1 May 2020 onwards. Phuket International Airport: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has extended the Phuket Airport closure until 15 May 2020. The AOT has issued guidelines for passengers to prepare themselves before boarding the aircraft. The airport users will be screened and have their temperature checked. If the body temperature is over 37.3 degrees Celsius, they will be rejected from entering the airport areas. Wear a face mask: Passengers are required to wear face masks at all times while in the airport or will be rejected on entering. Social distancing: Passengers are advised to keep a distance of at least one meter from other people or follow the specified airport signs. Follow advice: Passengers are required to follow the advice of the officers and should arrive at the airport well in advance for the convenience and safety of everyone. Preliminary Operating Statistics For the 1st Quarter 2020 AirAsia Group Berhad (“AirAsia” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce the operating statistics for the First Quarter of the Financial Year 2020 (“1Q2020”). Despite the weak travel demand amid increasing and unprecedented travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AirAsia reported a healthy group-wide load factor of 80%, which was better than its expected 77%. This was achieved through proactive capacity management, particularly in the months of February and March, with the cuts most notable in AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia Thailand. The Group Consolidated AOCs1 reported a steady load factor of 78%. The number of passengers carried was down 21% year-on-year (“YoY”) to 9.9 million as capacity was reduced by 11%. In 1Q2020, AirAsia Malaysia reduced its capacity by 17% YoY, as business was heavily interrupted in light of the increase in COVID-19 cases in many markets and the imposed Movement Control Order in Malaysia that began on 18 March 2020. AirAsia Malaysia carried 27% less passengers YoY, with a reasonably strong load factor of 77%. AirAsia Indonesia posted a 10% YoY increase in capacity for the quarter even though its available seat kilometres (“ASK”) retracted by 4%, as the company re-deployed excess capacity from international to domestic sectors. Passengers carried decreased by 7% as travel demand in the region started to weaken, while load factor was moderate at 74%. During the quarter, AirAsia Indonesia began flying Jakarta-Medan. AirAsia Philippines flew 1.8 million passengers during the quarter, down 9% in comparison to the same quarter last year.
