The Stanley Cup Champion recorded eight points in his last 10 games, including an 11-point month in February alone. His lone goal in that spell came against the Chicago Blackhawks at home, back on February 25 to bring the Blues within one goal in the second period. A cross-ice pass from David Perron found Thomas alone in front of goal and the 20-year-old roofed the puck short side. In total this year, Thomas has recorded 10 goals and 32 assists, along with a plus-minus rating of nine. He recorded nine goals and 24 assists in his rookie season last year. He's a quick skater, an agile forward with a nose for the puck and vision like a hawk down the ice. According to SB Nation writer Dan Buffa, written on March 6, Thomas belongs in St. Louis for a long time. In fact, Thomas was almost traded from St. Louis in exchange for Ryan O'Reilly to Buffalo on July 1, 2018. How different the roster would have been if he left. Thankfully, the Blues valued him more than that. The 20th overall draft pick in 2017 adds depth in the centre position that has O'Reilly and Brayden Schenn in the second and first line above him.

Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. How baseball is like the Christian walk! By: David E. Prince, PhD ! Baseball means dealing with failure. "There is more Met than Yankee in all of us," as Roger !Angell has poignantly written.! Every person who has ever played the game of baseball has been a consistent failure. It has been more than 70 years since the Splendid Splinter, Ted Williams, finished the 1941 baseball season with a .406 batting average. Williams' failure rate of 60 percent means that he failed less often than any batter in the seven subsequent decades. In fact, only five other players in the live ball era (since 1920) have matched the success of his 60 percent failure rate. Babe Ruth, known for hitting 714 home runs, struck out 1,330 times in his Major League Baseball career. The Cy Young Award is baseball's most coveted honor for the game's best pitcher each season. !And yet the award's namesake lost 316 games as a major league pitcher.! The reality that baseball is a game of managed failure for every player, even the great ones, is one of the reasons the game imbedded so deeply in the fabric of American culture. Baseball became the national pastime because it reflected the national character -- a collective team endeavor that called consistently for individual responsibility and personal sacrifice for the greater good. John Updike noted, baseball is "an essentially lonely game." Once the batting order is set there is nowhere to hide; your turn at the plate is coming. The fact that the whole team is counting on you in that moment produces the possibility of personal exultation or humiliation.

PEAK PERFORMANCE AND CONTRACT INEFFICIENCY IN THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE A THESIS Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business The Colorado College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Arts By Scott Winkler April 2013 PEAK PERFORMANCE AND CONTRACT INEFFICIENCY IN THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE Scott Winkler April 2013 Economics Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine what age National Hockey League (NHL) players have their best seasons and how this relates to their contract earnings. The hypothesis is that NHL players have their peak performance at age 27, which indicates that long-term contracts that exceed this age create inefficiency. The study will examine player productivity by taking 30 NHL players and evaluating their performance in the years leading up to age 27 as well as years that follow. Performance measures include average point production and the highest average ice-time per game. The study will also use two OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regressions where the dependent variables are average time on ice per game and capital hit, both good indicators of how valuable a player is to his team, as well as several statistical independent variables such as points, games played and most importantly age. By gaining knowledge of peak performance, NHL organizations could better manage their teams by limiting long-term contracts to players and as a result lessen the inefficiency that exists in the market.
