Our 2016 Tour combines the drama, beauty and wildlife of South Africa with the work being done by GCA to improve aspects of daily life and to alleviate monumental health issues. We expect that the highlight of the tour will be the full-day visit to GCA’s Camp Sizanani in the beautiful Magaliesberg mountain area. There you will meet counselors and campers whose lives are being transformed by the Camp experience. The children are given so much more than 8 days of fun – they are provided with HIV-prevention education, life skills training, a sense of belonging, and hope for the future.

In a related activity in Soweto, close to , you will participate in one of the biweekly Youth Clubs (follow-up sessions to camp) near the campers’ homes, where kids who have previously attended Camp Sizanani experience changing young lives in a truly positive way.

You will be accompanied in Johannesburg, Magaliesburg, Soweto, and by the founder and President of Global Camps Africa, Phil Lilienthal.

“They both added personal experiences that commercial guides would probably not have provided. They were very caring about our welfare and safety.“

“Very personally and professionally knowledgeable. Shared personal experiences of living during and following the apartheid period. Very competent as driver and as tour leader. Ran a well ordered yet accommodating trip.“

“Fun to see the enthusiasm of the campers, even before they'd been to camp.”

“She was knowledgeable across a broad range of topics and her delivery was charming and very articulate. She went out of her way to show us little tidbits she thought would be informative or enjoyable or both, such as a neighborhood in Pretoria where the jacaranda was in early bloom and the upscale part of Soweto.”

“Fascinating to watch an African version of the departure for camp. No one fussed about a bus that was "on the way" for an hour and a half. Watching our Minnesota high school principals wade into the crowd of kids was a hoot; they were totally at home and loving it.”
