Detailed Itinerary for Ladakh Snow Leopard Trip 1st to 7th March 2017 | Hemis National Park Day 1 | 1st March 2017 Reception at Kushok Bakula Rinpochey Airport Leh, and transfer to Hotel, Leh. Complete rest for acclimatization to Leh’s high altitude of 3500 Mtr - essential for those coming from lower altitude. Evening easy walk/stroll in the Leh Market for orientation with a guide. Day 2 | 2nd March 2017 Day trip to Shey Palace, Thiksay and Hemis Monasteries. Shey Palace – the summer palace of ancient Ladakhi King. Thiksay Gonpa, one of the most picturesque monasteries in Ladakh and Hemis Gonpa – one of the biggest monasteries of Ladakh. Day 3 | 3rd March 2017 After breakfast, drive (1 hr) to Zingchen in the Hemis National Park and trek for about 1 hr to reach the Husing Camp (3650 m). The Husing Camp is surrounded by several valleys of Tsarbung, Husing, Kharlung, Tarbung and Rumbak, known for spotting of Snow Leopards. Base camp at Husing for the remaining days. This area is great for spotting not just the snow leopard, blue sheep, Pica wolf, Redfox, Wooly Hare, Eurasian Lynx, Tibetan Argali, Asiatic Ibex, etc. but Rumbak valley is also home to many species of birds like Golden Eagle, Lemmergeier/ Bearded Vulture, Himalayan Griffon, White-winged Redstart, Fire-fronted Serene, Himalayan Snowcock, Chukar, Redbilled Chough, Yellow Billed Chough, Wall Creeper, White-browed Tit Warbler, Great Rosefinch, Mapie, Great Tit, among many others 4th March 2017 Day trek in either Husing or Rumbak valleys (4000 m) depending on snow leopard sighting. Trek to Rumbak Valley: The trek is uphill through the Rumbak stream, zig- zaging, on the iced stream few times, to reach to open Valley of Rumbak and Yurutsey junction. Homestays in these villages are popular in the summer and many trekkers also enjoy experiencing Homestay in the winter. Lunch at Rumbak Sumdo junction and return to Husing Camp by evening. 5th March 2017 After breakfast, drive to Ulley village for spotting snow leopard and Ibex and other wildlife. Ulley is another snow leopard destination hamlet in the sham region of Ladakh. It is approximately 70 km from the Zingchen or a driving distance of 3 hrs. Homestay at Ulley. 6th March 2017 After breakfast, trek to scan the slopes surrounding the village for snow leopard sighting Drive to Hotel in Leh followed by lunch upon arrival. Optional: shop for souvenirs in the latter half from Leh Market 7th March 2017 Transfer to BKR Airport Leh Hotel in Leh - Lotus Hotel, Singay Palace or equivalent on double occupancy Price - Rs. 65,000/person inclusive of: All airport and hotel transfers All fees - wildlife fee @Rs.1500/day/person for the Hemis National Park, camping fees Hotel accommodation in Leh for 03 Nights inclusive of breakfast and dinner Camping gear – sleeping bags, sleeping tents, mattresses, etc Camp set-up - kitchen tent, heated dining tent Nature expert and guide Cook and helper at the Camp, including advance team to setup camp Spotting gear – Spotting scope, Binoculars, Walkie Talkie for urgent messages All meals at the camp Ponies for carrying language and equipment from Jingchen to Husing and Rumbak for Homestays.
