BUY AIR TICKETS

LIU Global students are encouraged to book air tickets well in advance of their departure. We recommend that students traveling to China for the first time fly directly into Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) on a domestic or international flight, although this may not be the least expensive options. Students with sufficient international travel experience may also fly directly to the International Airport (PVG) or Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) and arrange other transportation to Hangzhou by train or bus. For students arriving in China independently, there are several cities in China that have international connections with the United States and European countries, including , Shanghai and Hong . Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) has international connections to , Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok and .

MONEY

1. The local currency is CNY (RMB) and exchange rate of USD to CNY is 1 USD = 6.2CNY. You will be getting a monthly stipend to cover your basic dorm cost and meals. 3. We suggest that you exchange some cash before leaving the States in case of any emergency upon your arrival.

PHONE

It is very easy to apply for a SIM card for your cell phone. We strongly encourage you to bring your own cell phone. Please check with your phone company and make sure the phone you bring with is an unlocked phone.

WEATHER

It is hot and humid in September. You should bring some comfortable clothes. However, it will get cold in November and December, so you should bring some warm clothes as well. A thick jacket will be necessary for the beginning of the Spring semester. We will have one field trip to Beijing (it is expected to be in early November). The weather will be cold in Beijing by then. You will need a scarf, sweater, gloves, hat and a warm jacket. You may also consider doing some shopping here if you don’t want to bring a lot of stuff from the States.

4.14.16 ON ARRIVAL

If you arrive at the Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) (Recommended) The Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) is 27 kilometers from downtown Hangzhou. If it is your first time in Hangzhou, the center will arrange an airport pick-up for you. You should contact our Program Coordinator, Zizhe Hu (email: [email protected]), three days prior to your arrival to arrange a pick-up. For students who will arrive during 9:00pm - 6:00am (local time), please contact the China Center before your departure to confirm your dormitory and pick-up arrangement. The pick-up service will send you directly to the dormitory that you have booked and you can check in with your passport and enrollment letter at the front desk (24 hours/7 days for single dorm and 8am - 9:30pm for shared apartment). If you arrive at the Shanghai International Airports (PVG or SHA) The Shanghai International Airports are 2-3 hours away by car from downtown Hangzhou. The Center might not be able to arrange a pick-up for you if you arrive at Shanghai International Airports. However, there are generally two ground transportation options for you to transit to Hangzhou from Shanghai International Airports. After you reach the bus terminal or railway stations in Hangzhou, you can take a taxi to reach Yuquan Campus. Ø By Long Distance Bus from PVG Follow the sign of “long distance bus” and take the long distance bus to Hangzhou directly at the Pudong airport’s terminal building. Ticket Fare: CNY¥100 Duration: 3 hours Operating Hours: Every 1.5 hours from 8:40am-8:00pm (local time) Ø By High-Speed Train from SHA You can take subway at SHA to the next stop to reach Hongqiao Railway Station. Alternatively, you can walk at Terminal 2 of the airport westwards along and will arrive at Hongqiao Railway Station in 20 minutes. At Hongqiao Railway Station, you take a high-speed train to or Hangzhou East Railway Station.
