Carl Maes DETLEV KREYSING Carl Maes • Carl Maes is one of the most experienced and respected coaches of female tennis players in the world. He is a Master in Sport Science and Kinesiology and joined the Belgian Tennis Federation in 1992. During this period he worked with Kim Clijsters , former nr1 in the World in single and doubles, from the age of 12 and coached her for more than 10 years in total throughout her career. As Belgium’s Fed Cup captain, he led his side to only their second ever final. • He left Belgium for 8 years to become the LTA’s Head of Women’s Tennis where his role was to oversee and develop the junior and senior women’s game in Britain. Carl also served on the WTA board for two years as a Player Representative. Since his return to Belgium he has been a consultant for several tennis federations, both strategically as well as coaching players, mentoring coaches and being part of the coach education programs. • Currently he is Academy Director for the Kim Clijsters Academy where he developed a worldwide unique screening system for tennis players with the Hawk Eye technology. Several top 100 players like Elise Mertens, Ana Konjuh, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Yanina Wickmayer, Kimmer Coppejans and also Kei Nishikori have been visiting and/or training the Academy. • Carl Maes is also a TV analyst and publisher of many international tennis articles as well as being a much invited key note speaker for Tennis Europe, the International Tennis Federation and PTR conferences.
