Senior Captain Sam McChesney said, "This achievement shows that we are athletes and our bid to nationals has proven it. The cheerleading team is going further than all of the other male and female sports." With all other fall sea- son sports coming to an end because of falling short in games or disappointing endings, the cheerleading team’s season is extending longer than any other sport at Walpole High School. McChesney said, "We want to show our Rebel Pride throughout the nation. [The bid] has proven that we deserve more recognition than the minimal amount we have previously received." This is the second time in school history that the Reb- els have qualified for Nationals but this being the first time during a fall season. Last year, the varsity winter team went to Hartford, Connecticut and became Na- tional Champions. The girls are dreaming bigger this year and would like to continue their quest to become National Champions in Orlando, Florida. The team is going to have many fundraisers throughout the win- ter to raise the estimated $15,000 needed for the trip.     Nantucket Book Festival Young Writer Award Winner 2019 Carolyn Butler: 9th grade Haley Ray Never let the fear of not being good enough get in the way of happiness. Carolyn Butler is a piano teacher at the Nantucket Music Center and in her spare time is the music director for the Dreamland Theatre’s theatre program. I met her in early 2016 while auditioning for Schoolhouse Rock Jr at the Dreamland. At first glance, she seemed very tense and to the point but after only being around her for five minutes, I instantly fell in love with her outgoing and charming personality. She is an exceptional person to be around and an even better role model in the theatre. Her knowledge of music and passion for theatre is very admirable. Even though I was only in her acquaintance for two productions at the Dreamland, I will never forget how much she helped me improve in the theatre. Carolyn opened my eyes to the idea that I should be myself rather than comparing myself to others. Confidence is always something I've struggled with. Despite my fear of being noticed, I had the bright idea to try out for a play at the Dreamland Theatre. In the first two plays I did, I was cast as small ensemble roles. Even though they were small roles, I still loved the intense burst of energy that surged through my body while up on the stage. Against all odds, in the third play I did at the Dreamland, Schoolhouse Rock Jr, I got cast as a lead.

About The Education Cooperative The Education Cooperative (TEC) develops and coordinates educational and organizational programs to meet the needs of our member communities and their students in a way that complements and strengthens their school programs and expands opportunities for their stu- dents, educators and communities in the most cost-effective manner. TEC was Massachusetts’ first educational collaborative, established in 1968 by a group of vi- sionary educational leaders. This year we are celebrating TEC’s 50th anniversary of promoting excellence and innovation in teaching and learning and expanding opportunities for every child to experience success. Today, TEC members include the following communities: Canton, Dedham, Dover, Dover-Sherborn, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medfield, Millis, Natick, Needham, Norwood, Sherborn, Walpole, Wayland, and Westwood. Our Programs and Services TEC provides a continuum of outstanding public special education day programs for students ages 3-22. Each of TEC’s programs provide a highly supportive, engaging and personalized en- vironment specifically designed to meet each student's individual learning, physical, social- emotional and health care needs. We offer families a range of educational choices taught by caring, experienced and certified Massachusetts teachers, therapists and specialists. (June 11, 2020) – Merrimack Valley Credit Union awarded $15,000 in college scholarships earlier this week, recognizing 15 outstanding high school students from its field of membership both north and south of Boston. The students were honored during a virtual ceremony on June 8, where they celebrated with family and members of Merrimack Valley Credit Union’s senior management team. Over the past four years, Merrimack Valley Credit Union has awarded 36 students with nearly $45,000 in scholarships to pursue higher education. “Choosing the 15 scholarship recipients was especially difficult this year, as we had so many impressive applicants,” said John Howard, President & CEO, Merrimack Valley Credit Union. “The scholarship recipients were selected because of their commitment to education and to their community both in and out of school. While many had to modify how they demonstrated that commitment in the past few months – through remote learning and finding other ways to help in the community – we are confident that the flexibility and resiliency they have shown these past few months will prove useful not only in college, but also in their careers.” The organization received 178 applications from students at 66 different high schools located across the two regions. Students were scored on their academic performance, school and community involvement, work experience, letters of recommendation and their essays about what they would do if they ran Merrimack Valley Credit Union.
