Launched in 2008, the Keystone State News Connection is part of a network of independent public interest state-based news services pioneered by Public News Service. Our mission is an informed and engaged citizenry making educated decisions in service to democracy; and our role is to inform, inspire, excite and sometimes reassure people in a constantly changing environment through reporting spans political, geographic and technical divides. Especially valuable in this turbulent climate for journalism, currently 175 news outlets in Pennsylvania and neighboring markets regularly pick up and redistribute our stories. Also before us is a request for waiver of the Commission’s local radio ownership rule, Section 73.3555(a)1 (“Waiver Request”). For the reasons set forth below, we deny the Waiver Request and dismiss the Assignment Applications. 1 47 C.F.R. § 73.3555(a). 2019 ANNUAL REPORT Greetings! In 2019, as usual we provided over $2 million dollars in benevolent care. In fact, we provided $2.4 million to those in our care who have limited funds. We are fortunate to have both past and present donors who have so generously supported our mission of service. We also accomplished the following: • At our annual dinner, we honored several people who have made a difference in the history of ALSM. Those honorees are David Cobaugh, who received The Rev. Dr. Luke Rhoads Lutheran of the Year award, and The Rev. John and Charlotte Rimert, designated as the Helping Hand recipients. The Revs. Will and Elisa Osman received The Rev. Dr. Walden Holl award at the Allegheny Synod Assembly Gathering. • The Oaks cottage expansion continued and the first residents in that expansion moved to our Pleasant Gap campus. Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries Board • The Annual Jim Meadows Memorial First Commonwealth Bank Golf of Trustees Outing raised $49,600, the highest amount since the inception of the outing over twenty years ago.
