Lythraceae family is the earliest and significant o utgrowth crop of arid and Semi-arid regions all over the Globe. This has a distinctively brief developmental period of 1- 2 years, contrasted with other perennial fruit K e yw or ds crops since flowering results in fruiting bodies, Flower of pomegranate blooms almost Hermaphrodite, throughout the year in tropical climates while in subtropics, blooming is observed only Inflorescence, once every year. Hence, it is characterized by two styles of flowers: (hermaphrodite) Anthesis, bisexual flowers and functionally male flowers on the same tree. This situation, termed as Juvenile period functional and romonoecy. Male blossoms are directly related to minimum yields which are not capable to set fruit. The plant is deciduous in zones wherever the temperature is Article Info low during winter, even though it is mostly evergreen in a hot tropical environment. A great attention to environmentally friendly methods has been putted to solve these problems. Therefore in this study plant hot aqueous (water) extract and alcoholic extract were used from the crusts of Pomegranate and Citrus individually and in combination to inhibited the growth of (Fusarium oxysporum ), which causes vascular wilt in the tomato and ( Plasmopara viticola ), which causes downy mildew in grapes. The results were analyzed with LSD and Duncan test and there were significant differences among most results of extracts, best effects were found in the combine extracts, due to the synergistic activity for both mixed extracts that led to major inhibition effects on fungal growth compared with control growth treatment. The aim of the study is to use natural products as pesticide to control plant pathogens because most fungal chemical pesticides have become toxic to the environment, humans, animals and other soil organisms, as well as their lack of efficiency due to the emergence of resistant fungal strains. Key word : Alcoholic extract, Hot water extract, Vascular wilt, Downy mildew.

China Received: 29.02.2016 Accepted/Published Online: 28.06.2016 Final Version: 06.12.2016 Abstract: Punica granatum L. (Wild) is an important fruit-yielding species of the world and a source of income for people, particularly in the Hindukush-Himalayas of Pakistan. Considering its ecological and commercial importance, an attempt was made to provide a primary assessment of its compositional pattern with relation to environmental variables for ecologically unexplored Punica granatum forests located in a subtropical dry temperate zone using multivariate techniques. The vegetation data were collected from 40 Punica granatum forest stands along with the associated environmental data (12 variables) at different locations. Classification of the stands was carried out using Ward’s agglomerative cluster analysis. In total, 20 tree species belonging to 13 families of 19 genera with 78 understories were surveyed. Finally, nonmetric multidimensional scaling ordination with associated Monte Carlo permutation tests was performed to explore the patterns of variation in vegetation distribution explained by the environmental variables. Four community types were identified in different altitudinal and microclimatic thickets that significantly varied in species composition.

POMEGRANATE PUNICA GRANATUM Factsheet | HGIC 1359 | Ripe pomegranate fruit. Karen Russ, ©2009 HGIC, Clemson Extension Pomegranates (Punica granatum) have been popular fruit throughout human history and are experiencing a surge in popularity at present due to the health benefits associated with their juice. Widely grown for their edible fruits, they are equally valuable as ornamental plants. While their precise origin is unknown, pomegranates are considered native from the near-Middle East to the Himalayas. The first plants were probably introduced into the southeastern United States by early Spanish settlers to their colony at St. Augustine, FL. Pomegranates have a long history of use in South Carolina. Plants are often found around old home sites and plantations, especially in the Midlands and Coastal Plain. They grow and flower well in most of SC, but tend to fruit poorly in our humid climate as compared to the warm, arid regions where they are particularly well adapted. Description This deciduous (rarely evergreen) shrub or small tree typically grows from 12 to 20 feet tall and nearly the same in spread. Pomegranates sucker profusely from the base, and if not removed routinely, the plants quickly become dense with many stems. Stems tend to be slender and thorny with reddish-brown bark that becomes gray with age. Leaves may be to ¾ inches wide. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and somewhat leathery; they turn yellow in the fall alternate, opposite, or whorled on the stem and are 1 to 3 inches long by ⅓ and may linger on the plant until early-winter. Pomegranate growth habit.

Ann. uppl. Bid. (1997), 130:135-140 Printed in Great Britain 135 Phenological stages of the pomegranate tree (Punica granatum L.) B~ P MELGAREJO, R MARTINEZ-VALERO, J M GUILLAMON, M MIRO and A AMOROS Plant Production Department, Universidad Polite'cnica de Valencia, Ctra. de Beniel km. 3 '2, Orihuela (Alicante), Spain (Accepted 28 November 1996) Summary As in other temperate species, the pomegranate tree shows different phenological characteristics through its vegetative cycle in response to changing temperature. This phenology has been studied as a basis for comparisons of the successive stages of growth and reproduction in different geographical areas and conditions. The variety Mollar de Elche was studied, since it is grown on more than 95% of the total area devoted to this crop in Spain. Thirteen phenological- stages were identified during the annual cycle, starting at bud in dormancy and finishing a year later with leaf fall. These stages are denoted using the BBCH General Scale which uses numerical codes to represent particular stages. The code uses a two-digit number to describe the different phenological states and makes it possible to distinguish between principal and secondary stages of development. The duration of stages was measured in days and as accumulated degree-day. Key words: Phenological stages, pomegranate tree Introduction The pomegranate tree (Punica granatum L.) originates in central near east (Sanchez- Monge, 1974). It is a temperate species that is now cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region. It requires high summer temperatures to ripen properly so commercial production is limited to coastal areas or those with mild summers (Melgarejo & Martinez, 1989).

However, the SUT gene family is still not well characterized in pomegranate. In this study, we first identified the pomegranate sucrose transporter (SUT) gene family from the whole genome. Then, the phylogenetic relationship of SUT genes, gene structure and their promoters were analyzed. Additionally, their expression patterns were detected during the development of the seed. Lastly, genetic transformation and cytological observation were used to study the function of PgL0145810.1. A total of ten pomegranate SUT genes were identified from the whole genome of pomegranate ‘Tunisia’. The promoter region of all the pomegranate SUT genes contained myeloblastosis (MYB) elements. Four of the SUT genes, PgL0328370.1, PgL0099690.1, PgL0145810.1 and PgL0145770.1, were differentially expressed during seed development.

Manuscript received in april 2004 Abstract China is one of the richest countries in plant biodiversity in the world. Besides to a rich flora, which contains about 33 000 vascular plants (being 30 000 of these angiosperms, 250 gymnosperms, and 2 600 pteridophytes), there is a extraordinary ecosystem diversity. In addition, China also contains a large pool of both wild and cultivated germplasm; one of the eight original centers of crop plants in the world was located there. China is also con- sidered one of the main centers of origin and diversification for seed plants on Earth, and it is specially profuse in phylogenetically primitive taxa and/or paleoendemics due to the glaciation refuge role played by this area in the Quaternary. The collision of Indian sub- continent enriched significantly the Chinese flora and produced the formation of many neoen- demisms. However, the distribution of the flora is uneven, and some local floristic hotspots can be found across China, such as Yunnan, Sichuan and Taiwan. Unfortunately, threats to this biodiversity are huge and have increased substantially in the last 50 years.
