Poets Kirk Nugent and Bridget Gray astounded the audience through their candid spoken word in an “open mic” event hosted by Asia. The program was sponsored by BCC Central Campus’ Student Life. Nugent moved the audience with his story of pain and per- severance that later brought him success in his career through his poem entitled “Battle Scars.” The lyrics depicted the plight that Nugent endured while try- ing to make it in life. Nugent also depicted his battle with depres- sion through an autobiographical poem. The orator described how he was physically abused and robbed of his self-worth. This led him to commit several attempts at suicide; he had tried to over- dose on sickle-cell medication. SETI(Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) which has been using radio telescopes to scan the skies for telltale signs of an alien made radio transmission is already planning on turning its “ears” to the region. The European team of sci- entist that found the body used the European Southern Observatory telescope in La Silla, Chile. Using a technique in which they observe the star “wobble.” The principle is simple; a planet going around a star makes that star wobble much like an Olympic hammer- thrower wobbling while swing- ing the weight. It is obvious that the athlete is holding on to a weight even if all one can see is the thrower’s body spinning and wobbling. Using very so- phisticated techniques the tele- scope splits the light from the star to find the signs of wob- bling in different wavelengths. So scientists can estimate what size of planet is causing the wobble and how fast it is going around the star.

At the end of the day we are family, so lookout for one another. At the end of the day we are brothers, forgive one another. At the end of each day, we are sis- ters, aunts, cousins, moth- ers, fathers, sons, daugth- ers and human beings. The village is what you make it! So, at the end of the day, respect one another. Your time, your minute, the hour spent with your

family is precious. Share the life of the living and for the dying. The village is here, your family is here. We will embrace. We will cry your tears. But, we are here when time is going.
