STRATEGY Our Strategic Plan 2018-2024 British Swimming is the elite aquatics governing body in the UK. We cover all the main aquatic disciplines and hold the international OUR FUTURE affiliation to both LEN and FINA. Our main focus is elite performance, international influence and staging events. Welcome to our strategic plan for The Olympics and Paralympics provide all sports with a global opportunity to 2018 – 2024. celebrate the amazing moments that inspire us all. British Swimming has the task to nurture and to support the swimmers, divers and para-swimmers responsible for those medal-winning moments. We also have a wider responsibility to work with the home nations and the whole of aquatics in the UK to ensure a healthy, growing sport. Elite success can inspire participation but only if the whole sport works together to maximise the opportunity. The purpose of this document is to provide an overarching vision for British Swimming linked to the different disciplines. Performance sport thrives best when individuals and teams have clarity of purpose. Our individual disciplines display this every day in training and competition. However, that relentless focus needs to sit within this vision and provide inspiration to the whole sport. We have a new vision within this strategy and a set of values. Vision and strategy are only effective if they drive both culture and planning. The vision and values will be incorporated into our marketing and annual planning processes. We shall also work with the home nations and stakeholders across the sport to ensure effective strategic alignment and continual collaboration.

You will also find the standings of the first three places in all events for men and women at the Olympic Games followed by several classifications which are listed either by the number of titles or medals by swimmer or National Federation. It should be noted that these standings only have an historical aim but no sport signification because the comparison between the achievements of swimmers of different generations is always unfair for several reasons: 1. The period of time. The Olympic Games were not organised in 1916, 1940 and 1944 2. The evolution of the programme.

  • Hungary's Dani Gyurta, 15, Became the Youngest Olympic Medalist in Swimming Since 1932 When He Captured Silver in the Men's 200 Meter Breaststroke at Athens
Hungary's Dani Gyurta, 15, became the youngest Olympic medalist in swimming since 1932 when he captured silver in the men's 200 meter breaststroke at Athens. Be sure to pick up a copy of Swimming World Magazine and read, "Coming of Age," a story about Hungary's new superstar swimmer that includes a Q and A as well as a "How They Train" with sample workouts. The following SwimInfo Interactive article provides even more background on Dani. It is written by Norbert Agh, a 1988 Olympian and Swimming World Magazine's European correspondent from Hungary: The vast majority of the one billion-plus spectators who watched young Daniel Gyurta win a silver medal in the 200 meter breaststroke at the Athens Games last summer, undoubtedly were shocked by the brilliant performance of the barely 15-year-old Hungarian. He instantly became very famous in Hungary after Athens. You can see Dani's face everywhere--on TV shows, in newspapers, magazines and bildboards. It seems that everybody in his country likes this youngster who seemingly has no problem with this sudden fame. Swimming World has been watching Gyurta since 2001 and has been following his astonishing progress. It started when Dani was still 11, one month short of 12. Back then he swam 2:25.47 in the 200 meter breast (all of the times in this article are long course). It was unbelievable. According to our research that time was at least 10 seconds faster than the best 12-year-olds in the world, and he wasn't even 12 yet.

For Immediate Release YOTA Swimmer Ross Noble Selected for Scottish National Youth Squad RALEIGH NC, September 2, 2020: Ross Noble, who swims for YOTA (YMCA of the Triangle Area), was selected by the Scottish Swimming Association to represent Scotland on their 2020-2021 National Youth Squad. Ross is a dual citizen of the USA and the UK. Team Scotland has a significant presence on the international stage, led by swimmers Duncan Scott, Hannah Miley and Mark Szaranek. Scotland competes independently in competitions such as the Commonwealth Games, but joins Team UK for the Olympics and World Championships. About his selection, Ross said “I’m proud to be Scottish, so I’m excited to represent Scotland and compete on an international level.” His coach Jamie Bloom adds “We’re delighted that Ross will have this opportunity. Ross constantly challenges himself in practice and continues to develop his technique and speed. We’re confident he’ll grow as a swimmer as he competes internationally, and we expect him to swim fast for Team Scotland.” Noble, a Scholastic All American (2019-2020), specializes in backstroke and IM. He is a Summer Juniors qualifier who ranks #10 in the USA for the 100 and 200 Backstroke (15-year-old Males). In national YMCA Swimming, he was #1 in the 100 Back and 400 IM (Men Age 15).
