    Ncaa Tournament History

    NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY UCLA has made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 11 in the last 15 seasons. The Bruins advanced to the College World Series three times in a four-year span (2010, 2012 and 2013), capturing the NCAA Championship in 2013. That season’s trip to Omaha, Neb., marked UCLA’s fifth appearance at the College World Series. UCLA’s other CWS appearances came in 1969, 1997, 2010 and 2012. As head coach, John Savage has led UCLA to the postseason in 10 of 14 seasons. He is the program’s only head coach to have led UCLA to postseason appearances in four consecutive seasons (2010-13) and to the NCAA Championship (2013). He coached the Bruins to the Super Regionals in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013. UCLA also hosted the NCAA Los Angeles Regional (at Jackie Robinson Stadium) in five of six seasons (2010-2013, 2015). In addition, the Bruins hosted the NCAA Super Regional round in 2010 and 2012. Prior to 2010, UCLA had not hosted postseason games since 1986. Former head coach Gary Adams made 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament, including the Bruins’ 1997 appearance at the College World Series. In six games at the 1997 NCAA Midwest Regional (at Oklahoma State), the Bruins outscored their opposition, 72-24. UCLA closed the six-game stretch with five victories, routing host Oklahoma State 14-2 and 22-2 on the same day. Eric Valent earned Tournament MVP honors after blasting six home runs, while Nick Theodorou batted .667, collecting 16 hits in 24 at-bats. CLUBHOUSES- All visits to the clubhouse must be cleared by the Kannapolis Intimidators media relations staff. The clubhouse will typically be open to accredited media up to 45 minutes prior to game time. There will be no admittance during rain delays or between games of doubleheaders, unless designated beforehand. Please allow for a 10-minute “cooling off period” upon completion of game before entering the clubhouse unless other arrangements have been made. PRESS BOX- The press box is located directly behind home plate and is open to all working media. Press notes and statistics are provided to the media approximately two hours before each game.

(NCBWA) --- UCLA relief pitcher David Berg is the 2013 recipient of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Saturday prior ot the beginning of the College World Series. Berg, the 2013 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, has posted a record of 7-0 with 21 saves while currently leading the nation in ERA with a 0.88 mark. Berg's 21 saves are also a new UCLA single-season record and rank tied for second in all of Division I baseball, two shy of tying the single-season NCAA Division I record. In addition, he is second in the country in WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) with a mark of 0.80 and has allowed the second-lowest opposing batting average (.194) in the conference. The sophomore from Covina, Calif., has also given up fewest runs (7) and walks (8) in the Pac-12, while appearing in the most games in the conference (46). At one point this season, the first team All-American did not allow a run in 37 consecutive innings, which was the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in the nation this season. In the postseason this year, Berg has recorded three saves while finishing all five of UCLA's NCAA postseason games. The right-hander has helped UCLA post a current 44-17 overall record and a 21-9 record in the Pac-12 Conference.

    DEPARTMENT OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE UCLA Baseball September 22, 2011 Contact: Alex Timiraos UCLA BASEBALL WELCOMES 11 NEWCOMERS TO WESTWOOD Incoming class features five pitchers, four infielders, one catcher, one outfielder LOS ANGELES – UCLA baseball head coach John Savage welcomed 10 incoming freshmen and one junior college transfer to campus Thursday as fall quarter classes began in Westwood. Savage’s seventh recruiting class at UCLA features five pitchers, four infielders, one catcher and one outfielder. “These incoming players are fantastic additions to our program, and we are really looking forward to seeing what they can do at the collegiate level,” Savage said. “We have brought in a balanced recruiting class, from a pitcher and position player perspective. Our coaching staff believes that these guys will be able to contribute from the start.” Two of the 11 incoming players, Kevin Kramer and Jake Ehret, were selected in the MLB Draft last June. Kramer, a freshman infielder from Turlock, Calif., was selected in the 25th round of the MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Ehret, a freshman right-hander from San Dimas, Calif., was chosen in the 37th round by the Florida Marlins. Outfielder Eric Filia-Snyder, a four-year varsity standout at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Calif., twice earned Sunset League MVP acclaim in addition to securing first-team All-CIF accolades as a senior. In addition to Ehret, the group features right-handed pitchers David Berg (Bishop Amat HS), Michael Kerman (Long Beach City College) Zack Ortiz (Cypress HS) and left-hander Grant Watson (Bakersfield Centennial HS).
