Friends who love this time of year are in their element, grinning with delight - children in bright sweaters and mums in pretty wellies, kicking up leaves on country walks, gathering the last of the blackberries and the best of this autumn‟s rich crop of apples. Hmm! Certainly things have a different feel now, and a day in the village, a cosy dinner in a good local inn, have a very special appeal. I might think about our plans for Christmas too. Antiques, candlelight and open fires The Crown Inn at Blockley is also in its element. A traditional Cotswold inn, The Crown was refurbished last year by Alan Whitehead and Stefan Schmitter, who have maintained the character and history of the old building. As you walk in the door, peeling off coats and rubbing chilly hands together, you can feel the warm welcome the old inn offers. Autumn menus and afternoon tea in front of the fire Using the best seasonal produce, almost exclusively local, is key for Head Chef, Peter Zagyva and his team in the kitchens, creating a selection of fresh seasonal home made dishes for both the Restaurant and the Bar. Autumn has inspired a £7.95 two-course lunch and dinner menu for the Bar, but if you‟ve been out around the fields at the weekend you might enjoy the treat of afternoon tea, served on Sundays in front of the log fire in the Bank Lounge, at £9.95. For a special evening you can book the Bank suite, for private dining, at no extra charge. Organic live lager ale and bitter Alan will proudly tell you that the brewery at The Crown is producing its own traditionally brewed lager ale and a bitter, on site. These are 100% organic live beers, with no preservatives, available over the bar of course but The Crown is also supplying other Public Houses and outlets. Take a copy of Moreton Times or Stow Times to The Crown in October and try their beer free of charge before or during your meal. Sharing good food and wine at Christmas & New Year is easy at The Crown…… Christmas parties offer the full Christmas fare, with table decorations, crackers etc, and a disco if required, with prices from £22.95 pp inclusive – please book early for these and also for Christmas fare in the restaurant, which can be pre booked for parties of 4- 40, with 4 courses at £20.95 Join The Crown Inn for Christmas day lunch, served from 12 noon till 1.45, only £39.95 pp New Year‟s Eve Dinner with dancing and entertainment till late, £35.00 per head New Year‟s Day Brunch Buffet, 12-2 pm, £15.00 pp New Year‟s Day Dinner, 4 courses, £ 23.00 pp High Street Blockley Gloucestershire GL56 9EX Tel 01386 700245 Fax 01386 700247 E-mail [email protected] www.crowninnblockley.com 4 STOW HORSE FAIR Many problems arose as a result of May‟s very large Fair.
