(Turkey) First World War Primary Schools Project 1915 - 1916

 This year we were proud to be partners in an HLF funded Gallipoli Centenary Education Project. Led by the highly respected Gallipoli Association, this project focused on the work of young people from Britain, Ireland, France, Australia and Turkey to create a purpose built website to showcase their work and encourage further research on one of the First World Wars most emotive Battlefields. Gallipoli  We invited 6 schools to participate Centenary from across South to tell the story of The Cameronians Education Project 7th and 8th Battalions and The Lanarkshire Yeomanry Squadrons Our Schools A,B and C who served at Gallipoli.

Our Lady and St Anne’s  The schools took part in an Primary - Hamilton introductory workshop and then having taken inspiration from St Paul’s Primary – Hamilton original First World War Comics designed there own themes for an Quarter Primary – Quarter online comic book inspired to help

High Mill Primary – tell the story of the two regiments.

 Spittal Primary - Additional creative writing workshops had taken place for an St Cadoc’s Primary - earlier HLF Project. Samples of the work by a further 3 schools has been included

Side nearest fireplace represents the number of men from these two who initially served in Gallipoli.

Side nearest windows - represents the number who were eventually evacuated off the peninsula at the end of the campaign.

The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) lost more men in a single battle, during one day, than on any other day over the entire First World War.
