We are so grateful to our frontline heroes at the Institute, who are selflessly ensuring our patients can continue to receive their lifesaving treatments in the safest possible environment. And we are grateful to our donors and participants who have stepped up their support during this crisis, with gifts to our Emergency Response Fund, gifts of personal protective equipment, participation in virtual fundraising events, and so much more. Even amid such tough times, we can still have good days, meaningful moments, positive interactions, and togetherness—albeit in new ways. Although our Jimmy Fund events season looks different this year, with many popular events postponed or cancelled, we have fun, new offerings for everyone. We held our first-ever Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund Giving Day on May 27, inspiring thousands of gifts totaling more than $540,000 from across the country. And our Boston-area friends saw the recent launch of our new advertising campaign, themed “I Am Jimmy/We’re All Jimmy,” designed to raise awareness and strengthen our connection to our grassroots fundraising community. You can see the campaign at iamJimmy.org. Each day, we work in service to a community of patients and families, clinicians and researchers, donors and participants who are resilient beyond measure. When I think about our Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund community, it gives me confidence that we will emerge from this experience stronger than ever before. April 15, 2019 Dear Members of the Media, On behalf of the Boston Athletic Association, principal sponsor John Hancock, and all of our sponsors and supporters, we welcome you to the City of Boston and the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon. As the oldest annually contested marathon in the world, the Boston Marathon represents more than a 26.2-mile footrace. The roads from Hopkinton to Boston have served as a beacon for well over a century, bringing those from all backgrounds together to celebrate the pursuit of athletic excellence. From our early beginnings in 1897 through this year’s 123rd running, the Boston Marathon has been an annual tradition that is on full display every April near and far. We hope that all will be able to savor the spirit of the Boston Marathon, regardless whether you are an athlete or volunteer, spectator or member of the media. Race week will surely not disappoint. The race towards Boylston Street will continue to showcase some of the world’s best athletes. Fronting the charge on Marathon Monday will be a quartet of defending champions who persevered through some of the harshest weather conditions in race history twelve months ago. Desiree Linden, the determined and resilient American who snapped a 33-year USA winless streak in the women’s open division, returns with hopes of keeping her crown. Linden has said that last year’s race was the culmination of more than a decade of trying to tame the beast of Boston – a race course that rewards those who are both patient and daring.

We tested the hypothesis that VO2max can be elicited in both the sprint and marathon distances and that the fraction of time spent at VO2max is not significantly different between distances. Methods: Seventy-eight well-trained males (mean [SD] age: 32 [13]; weight: 73 [9] kg; height: 1.80 [0.8] m) performed the University of Montreal Track Test using a portable respiratory gas sampling system to measure a baseline VO2max. Each participant ran one or two different distances (100 m, 200 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, 10 km or marathon) in which they are specialists. Results: VO2max was elicited and sustained in all distances tested. The time limit (Tlim) at VO2max on a relative scale of the total time (Tlim at VO2max%Ttot) during the sprint, middle-distance, and 1500 m was not significantly different (p > 0.05).

The team went from ninth to first and came within a game of winning the World Series. More importantly, it rejuvenated interest in baseball throughout New England -- we are still feeling the effects of that today -- and probably saved Fenway Park from the wrecking ball. The rivalry against the Yankees probably never gets going again without that '67 team.A few books have been written on that team over the years.
