Director Chris Columbus brought a uniquely fresh and innocent approach to this delightful story, and the film has deservedly become a perennial at holiday time. I took great pleasure in composing the score for the film, and I am especially delighted that the magnificent Toronto Symphony Orchestra has agreed to perform the music in a live presentation of the movie. I know I speak for everyone connected with the making of the film in saying that we are greatly honoured by this event…and I hope that the audience at this performance will experience the renewal of joy that the film brings with it, each and every year. Augustin Dumay International critics have compared Augustin Dumay to the great violinists of the 20th century, describing him as a “great classical stylist”, a reputation underscored by his outstanding recordings for Deutsche Grammophon: Beethoven’s complete sonatas with Maria João Pires, a set that “surely ranks with Grumiaux/Haskil, Menuhin/Kempff, or Perlman/Ashkenazy” (International Piano), Brahms’ trios in which “the Milstein legacy in Dumay’s playing is wonderfully apparent” (Gramophone), and Mozart’s concertos with the Camerata Salzburg, “without exaggeration one of the finest Mozart violin concerto discs ever made” (Classic CD), in which he “confirms that he is an exceptional interpreter of Mozart as were Stern or Grumiaux before him” (Classica). Born into a family of musicians – his mother is a cellist and pianist, his father an amateur violinist – Augustin Dumay started violin lessons at the age of 5, after attending a concert by Nathan Milstein. Aged ten, he entered the Paris Conservatoire, winning the premier prix at the age of thirteen. His first concert at the Théâtre des Champs- Élysée followed a year later and he then appeared at the Montreux Festival, playing for Joseph Szigeti and Henryk Szeryng, who invited him to replace him on a tour of South America. On his return, Augustin Dumay worked in Paris with Nathan Milstein, who said of him: “I believe he will take his place amongt the great violinists of the year 2000”. He then went on to work in Brussels with Arthur Grumiaux for five years. He soon became familiar to concert audiences in France, but his international career took off thanks to his encounter with Herbert von Karajan. -

It is a thoroughly modern house that welcomes every- one who loves music. “I did not want to write music that needs several pages of explanations to be understood,“ she says about her first opera, “Alice in Wonderland.“ Unsuk Chin, born in Seoul, Korea, in 1961, had always been fascinated by Lewis Carroll‘s fairy tale for children and adults. Sine Bundgaard – biography Sine Bundgaard is one of scandinavias leading lyric-dramatic sopranoes. She is based in Copenhagen. She has appeared at leading houses like Oper Zürich, Opera de Paris and Bayerische Staatsoper and collaborated with leading orchestras like CBSO, Danish radio symphony orchestra and Freiburger barokorchester. Since 2009 she has been a principle of the royal danish opera where her repertoire includes Elettra (Idomeneo), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Contessa Almaviva (Figaro), Desdemona (Otello), Liu (Turandot), Nedda (Pagliacci), Fru Ingeborg (Drot&Marsk), Silvia di Avila (The exterminating angel), Lulu (Lulu), Manon Lescaut (Boulevard solitude), Elle in La voix humaine and many others. In 2020 she won the Reumert-award as Singer of the year for her performance of Elettra in Idomeneo at the royal danish opera. Future highlight include her debut at Oper Zürich as Contessa Almaviva in Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Ellen Orford in Brittens Peter Grimes, Vitellia in Mozarts Titus and Fru Ingeborg in Heise´s Drot&Marsk at the royal danish opera.
