Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2020

LJ Class 2020 Poverty Day was held September 26. Thank you to United Way of Northeast Florida for presenting the poverty stimulation and providing volunteers. We extend our gratitude and appreciation to the Five Star Veteran Center team for allowing us to use their facilities.

Youth Leadership Jacksonville

The YLJ 2020 "In Living Color" program day was held on September 12. Students focused on learning about one another's family heritage and exploring the impact of prejudice and intolerance on our community. Religious leaders helped the students increase respect and appreciation for individual differences.

Thank you to the many volunteers who participated as speakers and facilitators for the program activities.

Scott Chamberlayne New Leadership Summit Class of 2008 Scott Chamberlayne is a Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo Advisors. Scott has served on the LJ Board of Directors, assisted with YLJ program days and continues to volunteer his time as a finance committee member. As a new resident to Jacksonville, NLS was a terrifc way to learn about the community institutions, Scott shared. He believes that being a LJ program participant is a lifetime experience. He has stayed involved with LJ because he loves the mission to build leadership from youth to adults. Scott enjoys encouraging YLJ participants to push past their comfort zones through the transformational program.

CLASS NOTES

1988 Gary Corbitt was awarded the inaugural BEAM Team Bright Light Award by the Ackerman Cancer Center. Gary is involved with the American Cancer Society and is an advocate for basic healthcare access for all.

1991 Susan Ponder-Stansel received the 2019 Quality Senior Living Award at the 38th Florida Council on Aging's annual conference.

LJ 2019 classmates 2006 The Cultural Council awarded Hope McMath the Robert Arleigh White Award for Advocacy at its 43rd Annual Arts Awards.

2007 Ray Driver was named the 2021 JAX Chamber board chair. Also, Ray received the Jacksonville Bar Association Professionalism Award.

2010 Cathy Chambers has transitioned to Florida Power & Light Co. as economic development manager.

Ed Perez was honored by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership award.

2011 Will Smith (NLS 2006) was promoted to chief commercial officer with One Call.

2013 A belated congratulations to Margie Seaman Efron on her marriage to Barry Efron on June 24, 2018. Margie is the president of Seaman Realty and Management Company. The company has been selected for the 2019 Best of Jacksonville Award in the Commercial Real Estate Agency category by the Jacksonville Award Program. 2014 Congratulations to Rick Schart on his retirement as vice president, supply chain with Stein Mart, Inc. Rick was with Stein Mart for 11 years.

Dawn Adams is concluding her term as chairman of the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals.

2015 Congratulations to Christina Parrish Stone who will be transitioning to be the executive director of the St. Johns Cultural Council in December. The Cultural Council awarded Christina the Helen Lane Founders Award at its 43rd Annual Arts Awards.

Donnie Horner will serve as the game analyst for the Jacksonville University Dolphins football team on LJ 2015 at the 2018 Alumni Reunion 1010XL Jax Sports Radio for the 2019 season.

2016 Kristen Keen founded Rethreaded in 2011 to employ women who are survivors of human trafficking. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio named Rethreaded as the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week last month.

2017 Patrick Krechowski was appointed to the board of directors of Visit Jacksonville.

2018 The Cultural Council awarded Keith Marks the Art Innovator Award at its 43rd Annual Arts Awards.

2019 Allison Stocker has transitioned to Baptist Health as associate general counsel.

Congratulations to Lakesha Burton who received the 2019 Literacy Pro Award from the Literacy Pros of Jacksonville at their annual luncheon.

Sharol Noblejas was recognized by the Jacksonville Chinese Association for her service and dedication to the JCA Chinese School.

2020 Kara Tucker has been promoted to chief disabled services with the City of Jacksonville.

Honorary Lori Boyer has been named Visionary Leader by the Urban Land Institute of . Lori will be recognized at the Awards for Excellence program for her LJ 2000 at the continued passion and sustained leadership efforts for 2014 Reunion Luncheon and surrounding communities.

Next Generation Ale'ta Turner (NextGen 2012) is hosting a Bully Prevention Kickoff during Art Walk on October 2 in collaboration with the Duval County Public Schools, Jacksonville Public Education Fund and the Jacksonville Public Library. DCPS 2018 bully prevention public service announcements developed by students will be a part of the POP: Perceptions of Poverty Exhibit in Jax Makerspace until January 19, 2020.

Garold Harris (NextGen 2013, YLJ XIX) was selected as Teacher of the Year at Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology High School.

Youth Leadership Jacksonville Adam Miller (YLJ XVII) is now with Baptist Health Foundation as associate director of donor engagement.

Corey Portnoy (YLJ XVII) was appointed to the board of directors for Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville.

Taylor Richardson (YLJ 2020) will serve as a Next Gen panelist at the National Association of Women Business Owners leadership conference in October 2019. Taylor is also featured in the traveling exhibit Astronaut at MOSH where her documentary, Astronaut Starbright, has on-going film screening until January 4, 2020.

Aundra Wallace (NLS 2014) and David Miller (LJ 2008) have been announced as panelists for the Jacksonville Business Journal and BBVA's in-depth look at the state of business in the region on October 8.

NOTES OF SYMPATHY

Our condolences to the family and friends of Ken Krismanth (LJ 2006) upon his passing on July 21, 2019. Ken is survived by his wife, Lisa and two daughters, Kate and Maddie. Ken was the chief executive officer of Signet Enterprises, LLC in Akron, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, Ken's family requests that donations are made in his name to Honor Flight Cleveland.
