Directions to the Focus-Trust office The Focus-Trust office is based at the Talking Point Conference Centre. The Focus-Trust Talking Point Conference Centre Huddersfield Road Scouthead Greater Manchester OL4 4AG When using sat-nav you may be prompted for a house number. If so, enter 1255. From M62 – Eastbound (7 miles) 1. Exit at junction 20; take the A627 (M) heading to Oldham. 2. Take the A663 exit toward Oldham/Royton/Shaw. 3. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A627/Chadderton Way heading to Oldham. 4. At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A627/Oldham Way. 5. After approximately 1½ miles you will reach another roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A62/Brook St. 6. Continue to follow A62 for approximately 2½ miles, Talking Point is located on the left hand side. From M62 - Westbound (7miles) 1. Exit at junction 22 and head towards Oldham/Saddleworth on the A672/Ripponden Road. 2. After approximately 2 miles turn left at A6052/Delph Rd and stay on this road passing through the villages of Denshaw and Delph. 3. After approximately 2½ miles you will reach a T-Junction with Huddersfield Road. 4. Turn right on to A62/Huddersfield Rd. 5. Talking Point is located a further 2 miles along this road on the right hand side. From M60 (5 miles) 1. Exit at junction 22 and follows the signs for A62/Oldham Road. 2. After 3 miles you will reach a roundabout, take the 3rd exit and stay on the A62/ Oldham Way later becoming A62 Huddersfield Road. 3. Talking Point is located on the left hand side approximately 5 miles from M60, Junction 22. You are looking for a converted Church. This took place on the 25th September, three days after our Annual General Meeting. The launch was combined with a day school on “Mapping the Past” which was held under the auspices of the South Pennine History Forum, a group of local history societies from across the South Pennines. Much of our efforts since the launch have been directed towards promoting sales of the book and during the year we have held several exhibitions and book-signing events. The production of the book has been a monumental task for the Society and I would like to pay tribute to all the hard work that went into it by the publications committee. But all the effort has been worth it; the book is a wonderful production which enhances our reputation as a local historical society.

W. Harrison We are most saddened to have to report that one of your committee, Tony Wheeldon, died sudden- ly last week (3 Oct.). This was obviously a great loss to his family, and also to his many friends, all to whom we extend our heart-felt condolences. Tony has been of great help to the Society during his all too short a tenure as committee member, taking on all sorts of tasks, particularly those of a physical nature now becoming beyond the reach of some of us. The Society is in a poorer state for his passing. Your committee is still struggling to operate as well as we would wish through lack of committee members. There just aren’t enough to carry on the business of the Society properly. Recent fall outs from the committee include our hard working publicity officer, Charles Baumann, who has resigned due to family and other commitments however he has intimated that he would be available to help out on occasion subject to his availability from his other extensive interests.

They recognised in Jesus that his relationship with God went beyond the familiar strict boundaries of known prayer. Frequently recently I have been approached with the same request, ‘Teach us to pray’. It is a cry from the heart. It expresses a desire to be drawn into a deeper life with God; into something that is more than that with which we are familiar. It is a yearning to inhabit a way of living that embraces mystery and silence. Apologies for absence Apologies were received from Cllr. Paul Fryer and Adele Metcalfe (PP). 121. Transport Issues and the Neighbourhood Plan Joanne Betts, Principal Officer Transport and Highways Policy, Oldham Council, gave a detailed presentation on local, Borough-wide and Greater Manchester-wide transport issues. She said that the Neighbourhood Plan needs to be consistent with the 2040 Greater Manchester Transport Strategy (GMSF), the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework and Oldham’s Local Plan. The 2040 Transport Strategy vision is for 'World class connections that support long-term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunity for all’ and includes an ambitious plan to establish a fully integrated, high capacity transport system across Greater Manchester. In addition to the 2040 Transport Strategy a 15 step plan entitled “Made to Move” was issued in December 2017 by the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, who has committed to easing congestion and making Manchester a “greener” place to live. A “green summit” was held on 21st March and the Mayor’s office is expected to make an announcement tomorrow. The GMSF must include a robust transport base and TfGM are undertaking the concept planning and modelling for the strategic development sites, which cross borough boundaries, for example the Northern Gateway which includes parts of Oldham, Rochdale and Bury, identified throughout Greater Manchester in the GMSF.

Whit Friday 5th June 2020 contest rules & prizes 1 Band representatives must sign in at the registration’s tent, located at the assembly point, between 4.00 pm and 11.00 pm, but to receive an order of play Scouthead & Austerlands Prizes number the full band must also be present. The play number will be allocated in order of coach arrival. The Contest Secretary reserves the right to be flexible Championship/Open 1st £1000 + Village Rosebowl on the 11.00 pm entry closing time, as bands will not be allowed to march after Championship/Open 2nd £600 + Wolfendon Cup 12.00 Midnight. Contest start time is 4.00 pm. Championship/Open 3rd £400 + Hope Cup Championship/Open 4th £300 + Crystal Trophy 2 UK bands must register in accordance with British National gradings. Foreign bands will be accepted in the relevant section to match their own national First Section 1st £150 + Fred Mills Cup grading. Unregistered bands are deemed to be eligible for the championship/ First Section 2nd £100 open section prizes only. First Section 3rd £ 50 3 Bands must play from the assembly point when instructed by the Bands Marshal Second Section 1st £150 + Druggitt Cup and march to Dawson’s Field. The band must be available when called, otherwise Second Section 2nd £100 the stewards may place them at the back of the queue or even withdraw them Second Section 3rd £ 50 from the contest. During the march up the bands will be judged for the senior and junior deportment prizes. There is no restriction on the number of players Third Section 1st £150 + ‘Top It Up’ Cup to be included on the march up.
