  • Tipperary News Part 6
Clonmel Advertiser. 20-4-1822 We regret having to mention a cruel and barbarous murder, attended with circumstances of great audacity, that has taken place on the borders of Tipperary and Kilkenny. A farmer of the name of Morris, at Killemry, near Nine-Mile-House, having become obnoxious to the public disturbers, received a threatening notice some short time back, he having lately come to reside there. On Wednesday night last a cow of his was driven into the bog, where she perished; on Thursday morning he sent two servants, a male and female, to the bog, the male servant to skin the cow and the female to assist him; but while the woman went for a pail of water, three ruffians came, and each of them discharged their arms at him, and lodged several balls and slugs in his body, and then went off. This occurred about midday. No one dared to interfere, either for the prevention of this crime, or to follow in pursuit of the murderers. The sufferer was quite a youth, and had committed no offence, even against the banditti, but that of doing his master’s business. Clonmel Advertiser 24-8-1835 Last Saturday, being the fair day at Carrick-on-Suir, and also a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, an immense assemblage of the peasantry poured into the town at an early hour from all directions of the surrounding country. The show of cattle was was by no means inferior-but the only disposable commodity , for which a brisk demand appeared evidently conspicuous, was for Feehans brown stout.

PAIRC/ UI- LAOCHDHA CAISEAL SAMHAIN 3, 1985 / / CLAR OIFIGIUIL LUACH 50p FAILTE It is with great pleasure that I welcome the four teams to today', county football finals. Arravale Rove,., have 8 distinguished history streb::hing back to the early days of the association. In those far-off days football was ex teramely strong in Tipperary. An indication of that strength can be seen in the outcome of the 1894 championship. There were three teams from the town among the eleven that contested the football championship and the two that reached the final were ArraYale Rovers and Tipperary Shamrocks, ArrllYaie won by 2-' to nil even without the services of their well-known captain. Jack Quane, who had gone to America. Another famous team from the town, Bohercrowe, won the county championship in 1894 and 1896 and were back again in 1899. Tipperary Town won in 1902 and Tipp 01eary's in 1910. Surely lin impressive record I Loughmore-Castleiney's record may not stretch back 50 far but it is also II proud one. The club won its first county final in 1940 Md were success ful 00 seven occasions alto gether. In 1955 they defeated to<lay's OPPOSition. Two men from the parish played on the TIpperary selection against Dublin on 'Bloody Sunday', Bill Ryan Laha and Jim Ryan. Both men woo All-Ireland medals when Tipperary won their last football AII ·lreland in 1920. The contestants in to<lay's minor final ere Templemore Pholograph taken during the tour Md Fethard.

Football has begun to capture the imagination of our followers throughout the county in view of the great perfor mances of our county teams in 1993 when we contested three Munster finals. Unfortunately, success was not ours, but the interest and enthusiasm generated by these county teams was especially evident at the semi-finals when a large attendance turned out despite the inclement conditions.

  • Loughmore Castleiney Development Plan 2017-2022
Girls from the parish are active participants in camogie and ladies football. For the main part this has been with clubs from the neighbouring parishes. There was an active ladies football club in the parish from 1975 to 1979. During this time they won 5 County Senior Titles and a Munster Club title in 1978 together with a number of underage successes. Camogie is the main sport at present with a number of the players achieving success at club school and inter county levels. In 2002 a parish team reached the Munster Final of the Under 13 Community Games competition where they were narrowly beaten Club Chairman’s Address 03 Methodology 04 History of the Club 05 Mission, Vision, Values 08 Finance and Fundraising 10 Facilities and Development 11 Coaching and Games Development 12 Club Structures and Administration 15 Communications and I.T. 16 Implementation and Review Mechanisms for the Plan 17 Acknowledgements 17 Club Lotto 18 County Senior Football Champions 1979 Club Board Chairman’s address It gives me great pleasure to write a few short lines to introduce our club's 5 year plan. This booklet sets out what the club's 5 year plan committee deem to be the crucial projects for completion over the next five years, to build on the work already done by members and deceased members down through the years in promoting Gaelic Games in our parish. The club will be looking for a positive contribution from all our members to help achieve the goals set out in the plan. It is important that these projects are completed so that Loughmore Castleiney GAA Club will continue to serve the players, members and supporters from our parish for many years into the future.

  • Annerville Awards to the 2008 Tipperary Sports Stars
Tiobraid Árann Abú - United Sports Panel 1959-2009 in conjunction with Bulmers Ltd Golden Jubilee Presentation of the Annerville Awards to the 2008 Tipperary Sports Stars 1 in Hotel Minella, Clonmel on Saturday, 31st January, 2009 United Sports Panel 2009: Back Row (left to right) Eamonn Wynne, Johnny O’Loughlin, Dave Hallinan, Seamus McCarthy, David Clancy, Liam Ó Donnchú; Front Row (left to right) Jimmy Cooney, Seamus King, James Holohan, Ken Conway, Richie Blanche. 2 Foreword When a number of sports enthusiasts got together in 1959, little did they realise that they were starting something that would stand the test of time and be still a force 50 years later. Led by Sean Barlow and the late Sean Lyons the United Sports Panel was formed. They felt the time was right to have an Award Scheme in the county to honour amateur sports stars in their chosen sports annually. In fact, one should note that these were the first such awards in the country. As well as honouring Tipperary’s outstanding amateur sportspersons the United Sports Panel had another aim, as expressed by the second chairman, the late Tom Halpin, when he presented the awards in 1964. He expressed the hope ‘that functions such as these, which brought the stars of various sports together, would help to promote unity in sport.’ Like all innovations, it was not without its teething problems. Finding ways to finance it and getting venues were just two of them. In the early days businesses in Clonmel were canvassed to sponsor the trophies. This problem was eliminated for the 1964 awards when Messrs Showerings Ltd.
