  • Than 27 Years of Helping Sick Children Through Motorsports
More than 27 Years of Helping Sick Children Through Motorsports The Program The Team Fast Facts Media Coverage Photos - Special Events www.racingforkids.org The Program Racing For Kids® is a unique national charity, which uses the popularity of motorsports to bring attention and funding to the health care needs of children and child health institutions. At the heart of the program are visits to Children’s Hospitals by the Racing For Kids drivers in the cities where they race. The drivers spend time with each sick child, sharing stories about their racing careers, signing autographs and giving out the popular Racing For Kids hats. For many hospitalized youngsters, these visits by the racers are the lone bright spot in what is often a rather gloomy experience. Attending physicians report that these visits play an important part in each child’s recovery therapy. Racing For Kids representatives have visited close to 30,000 sick children in more than 575 hospital visits in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and Australia. Another important aspect of the Racing For Kids program is the funding that has been raised for Children’s Hospitals across the country. Since its founding in Detroit in 1989, Racing For Kids has raised more than $6.5 million through donations, specific fund raising events and in-kind gifts. Major sponsors of Racing For Kids include Humana, Inc., Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund, TranSystems, Meridian Health Plan of Michigan, Benson Ford, Jr. and Douglas E. Fregin. Toyota Motorsports and The Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach have made Racing For Kids a major charity of The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

For Immediate Release For Immediate Release www.andrettigreen.com Marco Andretti Finishes Second in Photo Finish at 90 th Running of Indianapolis 500 SPEEDWAY , Ind. (May 28 , 200 6) – Marco Andretti, making his first Indianapolis 500 appearance, nearly completed the storybook ending as he piloted the #26 NYSE car to a second -place finish in the second - closest finish in '500' history Sun day afternoon at the 90 th running of the Indianapolis 500 . Andretti, starting the event from outside of Row 3 on the starting grid , wasted little time in showing that the #26 NYSE car was fast as he moved into the top three just 30 laps into the event. Never falling back farther than seventh during the event, he was poised to make history when a late-race caution flag flew on Lap 190. When the track went green, the younger Andretti found himself in second place, trailing only his father with four laps remaining. Two laps later, Marco took the lead, making an outside move around his father as the two went through Turn 1. Sam Hornish Jr. also passed the senior Andretti and set his sights on the NYSE car, making a last -second pass just before the pair crossed the finish line with the finishing margin being just .0635 of a second. Hornish took the victory with Jim Beam/Vonage driver Michael Andretti third , Dan Wheldon fourth and Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan fifth. Next up for Andretti and the entire IndyCar Series will be the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix on Sunday, June 4.
