Nascar Heat, E-Zine 2012. A recap of 2011. 2011 brought much fanfare to heat, as well as new material. The 2011 cup mod was released, an updated truck mod for league use in the Nascar Heat Racing League. Speedsims showed teasers of their upcoming Sport Car Prototype Mod, which has now been released! The Mod Squad also showed teasers of several mods that are due out in the future, the 2012 cup mod, a new truck car set with new bodies, a vintage cup car set, and perhaps a trans-am car set that Raybee has been working on. Updates on older mods, Spike, after racing Gasoline Alley, took it upon himself to make a carset of the Roadster Era. Revolutionary Racing created two carsets, a 2011 nationwide carset, as well as Sprint Cup Alternative carset. By Ryan Callagan, aka Ucrdoh Nascar Heat is entering its twelfth year, which is very ancient in computer game terms. Yet life goes on, people come and go, but Nascar Heat keeps going along. The game title, “Nascar Heat,” is somewhat of a misnomer, while Nascar racing is the core, what is amazing how Nascar Heat has expanded to sport cars, open wheel, and dirt track racing. In this issue of the Nascar Heat E zine, we'll be covering the progress of leagues that races these various mods and venues, as well as interviewing those who continue to keep this game going for online, and offline game players.

    Gamespace Plaay & Architecture in Videoogames Georgia Leigh McGregor Doctor of Philosophy School of Media Arts, University of New South Wales 2009 ii Abstract Videogames are created for play. In videogames play takes place in an artificially constructed environment – in gamespace. Gameplay occurs in gamespace. To understand videogames, it is essential to understand how their spaces are implicated in play. This thesis asks what are the relationships between play and space in videogames? This thesis examines the relationships between space and play by looking at how architecture is constructed in gamespace and by looking at gamespace as an architectonic construct. In short, this thesis examines the architecture in and of gamespace. The relationships between space and play in videogames are examined by looking at the structure of gamespace, by looking at the differences between real space and gamespace and by analysing architectural and spatial functionality. This thesis discovers a series of important relationships between space and play, arguing that gamespace is used to create, manipulate and control gameplay, while gameplay dictates and influences the construction of gamespace. Particular forms of play call for particular constructions of gamespace. Particular types of gamespace construct play in particular ways. This thesis identifies a number of ways in which gamespace is configured for play.     SimBin Q & A – September 2008 • In which general direction is Simbin heading towards in the gaming industry? Are we going seeing more variety in terms other forms of motorsports e.g. Rallying, Dirt racing etc.? What other interesting content can we expect? JR: The short and easy answer is; Yes DS: In this industry as well as more or less all others it takes funding to initiate and finalize any sort of production. In the gaming industry it works a little like this. An independent developer wants to do a racing game, they write a concept and a sales document. With this they begin to look for funding options, once the funding is in place they begin to work on the licenses needed for the games content. Licensing is far from straight forward and usually licensing has a very big impact on the games content design and/or content limitations. Now that funding and licensing has been cleared the developer can begin the process of trying to find a distributor/publisher for the game. Distribution/publisher interest in a game greatly depends on the games content list, in other words, publishers are the single biggest limitation on content or rather how varied content a game developer can feature. That being said SimBin have always tried to deliver lots of different racing classes to the gamers and we will continue to do so. That is a promise! • What is your view in the subscription base gaming with the likes of iRacing? Is that the way the industry could eventually be headed towards? JR: We wish nothing but the best of luck and good fortune for iRacing since they broaden the simracing genre with their concept.
