For 62 years, the Club has been providing what they need and want most....adults who respect and Kathy Haggart Frank Marcus listen to them in a safe environment where President/CEO Board Chairman they can have fun! Bellevue is much different today than it was sixty-two years ago. In fact, it has changed a lot in just a few years! We have a much larger and more diverse population, which enhances and strengthens the community, but also adds challenges. We are meeting those challenges by striving to be there for every child in our community who needs us, now more than ever! As a result, we currently provide services to over 13,000 youth! Twenty years ago, we just had the downtown Club you see on the map at the left and we now have 12 Clubhouses throughout Bellevue! Most of the expansion since then has been into East Bellevue where we saw the greatest need for affordable, after school and out-of-school care. We now have three brand new Clubhouses in public housing complexes that were built for us by King County Housing Authority; Eastside Terrace, Spiritwood Manor and Hidden Village. We also have three Clubhouses in schools; Cherry Crest, Bennett and Phantom Lake. We operate Clubs in the City-owned community centers; South Bellevue and Crossroads. In 2010, we opened a “Teen Tech Center for Excellence” on Lake Hills Blvd. and in 2012, we purchased and opened a 10,000 square foot Teen Center next door. We just broke ground on a field house at Hidden Valley park, and we plan to build a new Main Clubhouse in downtown, 1952 2014 and open a satellite Club in the St. Thomas Church’s new facility in Medina. Last year alone, we provided nearly $700,000 in scholarships to Club members in need Population 7,658 Population 124,798 as all of our programs for our low-income members living in public housing and our teens are all Clubhouses 1 Clubhouses 12 (13 by 2015) free. A formula for victory: Trust, talent, work and fun “I’ve always been intrigued with winning and what it takes to win.” — Dennie Bridges As one of the winningest coaches in NCAA Division III history, Dennie Bridges knows a lot about victory. As a young coach, he was guided by the Vince Lombardi quote, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” He framed the quote and put it up on the locker room wall. But it didn’t feel quite right, and he later took it down. Bridges also likes legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden’s quote, “Nobody can win without talent, but not everybody can win with talent.” “At his level he had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton and Bryan Crabtree ’97 and Buck Condill ’99 lift Bridges in Keith Wilkes. At my level I had Jack Sikma, Blaise Bugajski celebration after winning the and Bryan Crabtree,” Bridges wrote in his 2002 memoir A 1997 Division III championship tournament.

  • Renormalizing Individual Performance Metrics for Cultural Heritage Management of Sports Records
Renormalizing individual performance metrics for cultural heritage management of sports records Alexander M. Petersen1 and Orion Penner2 1Management of Complex Systems Department, Ernest and Julio Gallo Management Program, School of Engineering, University of California, Merced, CA 95343 2Chair of Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy, College of Management of Technology, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. (Dated: April 21, 2020) Individual performance metrics are commonly used to compare players from different eras. However, such cross-era comparison is often biased due to significant changes in success factors underlying player achievement rates (e.g. performance enhancing drugs and modern training regimens). Such historical comparison is more than fodder for casual discussion among sports fans, as it is also an issue of critical importance to the multi- billion dollar professional sport industry and the institutions (e.g. Hall of Fame) charged with preserving sports history and the legacy of outstanding players and achievements. To address this cultural heritage management issue, we report an objective statistical method for renormalizing career achievement metrics, one that is par- ticularly tailored for common seasonal performance metrics, which are often aggregated into summary career metrics – despite the fact that many player careers span different eras. Remarkably, we find that the method applied to comprehensive Major League Baseball and National Basketball Association player data preserves the overall functional form of the distribution of career achievement, both at the season and career level. As such, subsequent re-ranking of the top-50 all-time records in MLB and the NBA using renormalized metrics indicates reordering at the local rank level, as opposed to bulk reordering by era.
