Thank you to all who participated. Around $129,000 was raised by the efforts of the coaches, teams, and schools listed below. Teams/Schools reported their BCANY Coaches vs. Cancer efforts to us. Others were obtained from American Cancer Society Offices. Some activities were: designated games, tournaments, foul shooting, 3 point shooting, half time raffles, half-time contests, competition among classes and clubs, wearing special uniforms, etc. The totals do not include any of the major events that took place in the state. When major events such as the 10th Annual Boy’s Coaches vs. Cancer High School Basketball Classic run by Ray Barile and the 4th Annual Girls’ Coaches vs. Cancer High School Basketball Classic run by Steve Bluth, the grand total is around $238,000. 10 Spring 2009 Spring 2009 11 Mr. & Miss Basketball Named Lance Stephenson and Brandon Triche co-winners of “Mr. New York Basketball” for 2009 Lance Stephenson of Lincoln HS, Brooklyn and Brandon Triche, Jamesville-DeWitt HS, Syracuse are named co-winners of the 2009 “Mr. New York Basketball” award by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc. Stephenson and Triche were selected by a BCANY committee chaired by Mike MacDonald, Head Basketball Coach at Medaille College. The Mr. New York Basketball award is presented by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc., which consists of basketball coaches at the scholastic and collegiate levels from throughout the entire state. The Mr. New York Basketball award is widely viewed as the top award that a high school basketball player in New York State can receive. Stephenson led Lincoln to the PSAL AA championship this year. He is the all time leading scorer in New York Don Douglas (PSAL), 2009 Co-Mr. NY State boy’s basketball history. Lincoln won a PSAL title in each of Stephenson’s four years on the squad. 22 Spring 2009 National High School Basketball 2009 Hall of Fame Induction Coaches Directors Ceremony The National High School Basketball Coaches Directors was formed in The March 2009, BCANY Hall of Fame Induction Brunch at the Glens Falls Indianapolis in July 2007. The National High School Basketball Coaches Civic Center saw nine individuals inducted in front of an audience of 450 Directors is an organization of the leaders of State Basketball Coaches people. Perhaps the most meaningful BCANY activity for coaches, inductees were surrounded by family, coaching friends, current and former players, and Associations. There are no individual memberships. Hall of Fame Nomination The BCANY Hall of Fame Committee of BCANY adapted an objective point system which was developed and successfully used by the Basketball Coaches La Roche-sur-Yon Championship Title Association of Michigan. There are 5 categories for evaluation of a nomina- tion for the Hall of Fame.
