He felt close, but not quite there, and settled for a jam- shot single here, a move-the-runner fly ball there. On Tuesday night, he joined what looks like a Rockies breakout. Blackmon whacked a first-inning home run -- his first in 42 at-bats -- to straightaway center field and added two more hits in his team's fifth victory in six games, an 8-1 win over the Giants at Coors Field. "It's really good to continue to try and win games, play team baseball, even if you're not feeling real awesome at the plate or on the mound," said Blackmon, who has 15 homers -- nine of which occurred during a hot April -- and a .275 batting average. The victory -- which also included Antonio Senzatela's seven scoreless, three-hit innings in his first start of the season and Nolan Arenado's National League-leading 22nd homer -- put the Rockies back at .500 (43-43). Could it also have signaled Blackmon's return to major contributor status? "I've felt pretty good the past couple of days," Blackmon said. 1 From June 6 to Monday's 5-2 victory over the Giants, Blackmon hit .216 (22-for-102) with two homers -- a struggle that was nonexistent when he hit .331 with 37 homers in 2017.

D., BCBA-D, Department of Education Amanda Guld Fisher, Ph. D., BCBA-D, College of Education ABSTRACT This study applied the generalized matching equation (GME) to pitch selection in MLB during the 2016 regular season. The GME was used to evaluate the pitch selection of 21 groups of pitchers as well as 144 individual pitchers. The GME described pitch selection well for four of the 21 pitching groups and 32 of the 144 individual pitchers. All 21 groups demonstrated a bias for fastballs as well as 119 of the 144 individual pitchers. There is always someone to dream on, and in that way, it keeps that often short-lived spring optimism alive year-round. While minor league coverage is increasing constantly, it is still difficult to get involved cold. Here is your preview on all four minor league affiliates and the most notable prospects at each level. Every player in the system is above the Mensa level of baseball talent in the world. It feels insulting to leave out most players or to summarize an impact prospect in three inches of a column. On the other hand, this preview is 21 pages long and nearly 6500 words. I have not seen every player in this report with my own eyes, but I have seen a few of them. But the right-hander received help, at least in the way of a gift and some inspiration, from the NFL's Denver Broncos. Shaw's unique cut fastball made him an important setup man in recent seasons with the Indians and earned him a three- year, $27 million contract with Colorado this past offseason. Part of his unique preparation method is to throw a football. A quarterback at Livermore (Calif.) High School, Shaw figured that his pitching-hand angle and motion were quite football- like -- possibly a reason hitters struggle to pick up his pitches. When several Broncos -- including star pass rusher Von Miller and newly signed quarterback Case Keenum -- visited the Rockies before Tuesday night's 8-0 victory over the Padres, Marquette King -- the former Raiders punter who has joined the rival Broncos -- presented the Rockies with two footballs. One is a "K-ball," limited to the kicking game under NFL rules. The other is now Shaw's training ball. After giving up five runs on six hits with a walk and a home run in the two games against the Cubs last weekend, Shaw struck out all three Padres batters he faced on Tuesday. He didn't get to use the football pregame -- rainy, wet conditions prevented him -- but he attributed some magic to it. "I got the ball yesterday, and yesterday felt good -- I got to hold it," Shaw said before Wednesday's game, when he walked two and gave up a run in one inning of a 5-2 Rockies win over the Padres.
