  • 99 Entrepreneurship Journals: a Comparative Empirical Investigation of Rankings, Impact, and H/HC-Index
SCHUMPETER DISCUSSION PAPERS 99 Entrepreneurship Journals: A Comparative Empirical Investigation of Rankings, Impact, and H/HC-Index Sean Patrick Sassmannshausen SDP 2012-002 ISSN 1867-5352 © by the author SCHUMPETER DISCUSSION PAPERS 2012-002 99 Entrepreneurship Journals A Comparative Empirical Investigation of Rankings, Impact, and H/HC-Indexi Sean Patrick Sassmannshausen Schumpeter School of Business and Economics Wuppertal University, Germany Corresponding author: [email protected] Work in progress, comments welcome! “…we have all in some way or another fallen under the seductive power of academic journal rankings even as we harbor serious reservations about their value.” (Nkomo 2009, p. 106) Abstract This article takes stock of 99 journals dedicated to the field of entrepreneurship research and examines their evaluations and impact. It compares several journal quality assessments, the Australian ERA 2010, ABDC 2010 and UQ 2011 lists, with other international rankings and with highly regarded impact measurements. In a following section, the H-Index and the HC-Index for journals are introduced. The H-Indices are Google Scholar based impact measurements which can be easily executed by anyone. The results for the entrepreneurship journals H-Indices are compared with other impact factors and with journal rankings from Australia and elsewhere. Results reveal that rankings are incomplete in regard to entrepreneurship journals and that many rankings are inconsistent when compared to impact measurements. This holds true even for the ERA and the ABDC 2010 lists, even though these are among the most appropriate lists. Key Words: entrepreneurship journals, H-Index, HC-Index, journal rankings, journal ratings, evaluation of journals, impact measurements, impact factors.

  • CALL for PAPERS Special Issue of Small Business Economics
CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue of Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal “Understanding the Implications of Online Social Media for Entrepreneurship” Special Issue Editors: Leon Schjoedt, Mahasarakham University, Thailand Eileen Fischer, York University, Canada Andrew C. Corbett, Babson College, USA Atthaphon Mumi, Mahasarakham University, Thailand All submissions are due no later than November 30, 2019. Online social media such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are proliferating in society; they represent a subset of digital ecosystems in which “computer-mediated tools that make it possible for anyone to create, circulate, share, and exchange information in a variety of formats and with multiple communities” (Leonardi and Vaast, 2017: 150). People and organizations increasingly employ online social media (e.g., social networking sites, blog platforms, micro-blogging tools, wikis, and social tagging tools) to communicate with specific others or to broadcast messages. Considering the profound impact social media have had, and are expected to have, on people’s behavior and the large potential social media hold for organizations, it is no surprise that social media is already affecting organizational behaviors and processes (Bird, Schjoedt, and Baum, 2012; Leonardi and Vaast, 2017). As with individuals and organizations, a growing number of entrepreneurs are adopting social media in their venture efforts (e.g. Fischer and Reuber, 2011, Mumi, Obal, and Yang 2018). While entrepreneurs may use social media to assess their business concept, reach potential customers, employees, and investors, and more, social media is also generating a new group of entrepreneurs. Some bloggers—as well as vloggers—become, de facto, entrepreneurs as they seek to create, circulate, share, and exchange information with multiple communities in order to influence individuals in return for some forms of compensation.

  • A Ranking of Journals in Economics and Related Fields
German Economic Review 9(4): 402–430 A Ranking of Journals in Economics and Related Fields Klaus Ritzberger Vienna Graduate School of Finance and Institute for Advanced Studies Abstract. This paper presents an update of the ranking of economics journals by the invariant method, as introduced by Palacio-Huerta and Volij, with a broader sample of journals. By comparison with the two other most prominent rankings, it also proposes a list of ‘target journals’, ranked according to their quality, as a standard for the field of economics. JEL classification: A12, A14. Keywords: Journal ranking; economics journals; business administration journals; finance journals, citations. 1. INTRODUCTION The ranking of professional journals in economics has attracted growing interest during the past decade (see Kalaitzidakis et al., 2003; Ko´czy and Strobel, 2007; Kodrzycki and Yu, 2006; Laband and Piette, 1994; Liebowitz and Palmer, 1984; Liner and Amin, 2006; Palacio-Huerta and Volij, 2004). Journal rankings have been used to evaluate the research performance of economics departments (e.g. Bommer and Ursprung, 1998; Combes and Linnemer, 2003; Lubrano et al., 2003) and of individual economists (e.g. Coupe´, 2003). They provide ‘objective’ information about the quality of publications in a world where academic publications have reached an overwhelming extent and variety. While half a century ago a well-trained economist may have comprehended all key developments in economics at large, today it is difficult to follow even the pace of subfields. Thus, the judgment by an individual academic is accurate only in so far as it concerns her or his own field of specialization.

The sample was based on the ISI Web of Knowledge platform (Web of Science), totaling 131 selected articles. Based on data analysis, we concluded that entrepreneurship in the creative industry sector is a subject still under-explored, but there has been a significant increase in publications in the last five years. Looking at the co-citation network, we were able to map the intellectual structure of entrepreneurship in the creative industries sector and the development in research and publications as well. • Handbook of Entrepreneurship Research International Handbook Series on Entrepreneurship
Handbook of Entrepreneurship Research International Handbook Series on Entrepreneurship VOLUME 5 Series Editors Zoltan J. Acs, School of Public Policy, George Mason University, U.S.A. David B. Audretsch, Indiana University, U.S.A. SERIES FORWARD Interest in entrepreneurship has surged in the last decade. Scholars across a broad spectrum of fields and disciplines have responded by generating new research approaches uncovering a wealth of new findings and insights about entrepreneur- ship. This new research spans not just a diverse set of fields, such as management, finance, psychology, economics, sociology, and geography but also a wide range of countries reflecting the fact that entrepreneurship is a global phenomenon. The exceptionally cross-disciplinary nature of entrepreneurship has made it difficult for scholars in any one particular field to become aware of and understand the leading contributions and insights emerging in other disciplines. The purpose of this series is to compile a series of handbooks, each devoted to a particular issue in entrepreneurship. Each handbook will draw upon the leading international scholars from the entire range of disciplines contributing to entrepreneurship to articulate the state of knowledge about a particular topic. The contribution should identify the fundamental questions, which are being posed, the methodological approaches, types of data bases used for empirical analyses, the most important empirical regularities to emerge in the literature, major policy conclusions, and the most promising research direction. Thus, each handbook will reflect the interdisciplinary nature of entrepreneurship that has proven to be elusive to discipline-based scholars. A goal of the International Handbook Series on Entrepreneurship is not only to provide a state-of-the-art coverage of what has been learned about entrepreneurship, but that when viewed in its entirety, entrepreneurship is emerging as bona fide academic discipline.
