May 2019

This spring has been a busy time for us here at the ! Our winemakers have created two amazing : one, a brand new innovation for Bogle, and the other, a we last produced in 2002! We hope you enjoy what they have created, and as always, let us know what you think!

2018 Bogle Pinot Grigio, Clarksburg While Warren Bogle grows Pinot Grigio each year for other , we rarely put it in the bottle under the Bogle label. But this light and refreshing sipper commands attention with its heady floral aromas and bright citrus flavors. Stargazer lilies and honeysuckle blooms jump right out of the glass, while sweet citrus fruits and a touch of quince round out the palate. Finishing dry and crisp, this is a welcome sight for us this summer!

2017 Bourbon Barrel Petite Sirah, Clarksburg How about trying a new take on our heritage varietal? Petite Sirah is nearly synonymous with Bogle, and we’ve made many different style wines from it, due to its versatility. For the first time, winemakers have purchased used bourbon barrels and aged our Petite Sirah in them for 11 months. The rich and ripe nature of the Petite married beautifully with the smoky and sweet whiskey flavors imparted by the barrels. This wine captures the best of two American classics, and we hope you enjoy it.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

The Bogle family and staff are pleased to present our TECHNICAL DATA very first wine aged in bourbon barrels. Wine Ph Winemaker Eric Aafedt purchased 50 used American oak bourbon 3.74

barrels in the spring of 2018. After careful deliberation, he placed Petite Wine Acidit y Sirah from our Old River into the barrels to age. Tasting and 0.50g / 100ml testing each month, it was clear the barrels were imparting significant Alcohol characteristics into the wine, including a richer mouthfeel, deeper toast 16.9% and higher alcohol. Aged for 11 months, the resulting wine will appeal to lovers of and whiskey alike…a wonderful combination. UPC 0 80887 49653 0 Opening with sweet cedar and black plum, the bourbon influence is noticeable immediately. Burnt sugar and caramelized fruit coat the palate, while pipe tobacco and smoky char hint at the barrel’s first years. The Petite Sirah, not subdued but enhanced, unfurls its dark, opulent berry fruit as each taste is relished. On the finish, blackberry cobbler topped with caramelized sugar lingers lazily, bringing together the best of the wine and the barrel. Savor this special creation with each and every sip.
