Construct and interpret two-way frequency tables of data when two categories are associated S-CP.4 with each object being classified. Use the two-way table as a sample space to decide if events are independent and to approximate conditional probabilities. Calculate the expected value of a random variable; interpret it as the mean of the probability S-MD.2 distribution. Develop a probability distribution for a random variable defined for a sample space in which S-MD.4 probabilities are assigned empirically; find the expected value. Weigh the possible outcomes of a decision by assigning probabilities to payoff values and finding S-MD.5 expected values. S-MD.5a Find the expected payoff for a game of chance. S-MD.5b Evaluate and compare strategies on the basis of expected values. Use probabilities to make fair decisions (e.g., drawing by lots, using a random number S-MD.6 generator). Analyze decisions and strategies using probability concepts (e.g., product testing, medical S-MD.7 testing, pulling a hockey goalie at the end of a game). -
Dwight Howard / Orlando Magic
Dwight Howard / Orlando Magic When he was 14-years-old, Dwight Howard made a goal —be selected as the no. 1 pick in the NBA draft. In the 2004, Dwight accomplished this goal when he was drafted no. 1 overall by the Orlando Magic, beginning his road to superstardom in the National Basketball Association. After becoming the youngest player ever to average a double-double in his rookie season, he’s been a five-time NBA All-Star, three- time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, four-time All-NBA and All-Defensive team member and the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner. Widely considered the best big man in the game, he is consistently among league leaders in rebounds, blocks, field goal percentage and scoring. His play has helped lead the Magic to a franchise record five straight postseason appearances, three division titles and their first NBA Finals appearance in more than 10 years. Howard gained national recognition while attending Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. Over his four-year high school career, he averaged 16.6 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.3 blocks and lead his team to a state title. He was bestowed with all major high school awards that year including McDonald’s National High School Player of the Year, Gatorade National Player of the Year, Morgan Wootten High School Player of the Year and the Naismith Prep Player of the Year. Raised as a devout Christian by parents Dwight Sr. and Sheryl Howard, Dwight Jr. views his basketball career as much more than an opportunity for money and fame. -

So are the movers ready to lift Josh Smith like an old sofa and carry him to the door next? Not so fast, Ferry tells Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution : “He’s a really good player,” Ferry said. “I love his ability to pass the ball. I love his ability to make game-changing plays defensively. I love his competitiveness. If I was out there playing, I would want Josh on my team.” But does Smith want to be here? He wasn’t available for comment Tuesday, but Ferry said he has met with him twice. “He’s excited for next season,” he said. “We haven’t really gone in that direction with him [on roster plans]. But we’ve talked about how we’re going to play. We’ve talked about other players. His ideas, my ideas. I’m just trying to establish a relationship.” Smith has only one year left on his contract. While he reportedly has softened his stance on a trade request, he publicly has given no indication yet that he’s looking to re-sign here. He is coming off the best season of his career (18.8 points, 9.6 rebounds), taking on more responsibility after Al Horford’s injury, even with the occasional “Josh” moment. -

LOS ANGELES NEW YORK SOUTH FLORIDA CHICAGO NATIONAL TRI-STATE SUBSCRIBE SIGN IN NEWS MAGAZINE RESEARCH EVENTS VIDEO Real estate rivalry: How the stars of the Lakers and Clippers live L.A. real estate is a draw for players of both teams. Here are their homes TRD LOS ANGELES / Oct.October 23, 2019 03:30 PM By Matthew Blake Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James with their California homes (Credit: Getty Images and Redn) The NBA season started last night and both the Los Angeles Lakers – who are traditionally great but recently bad, and L.A. Clippers – traditionally terrible but recently good – are expected to vie for the league crown. The Clippers won the rst round of the invigorated rivalry 112-102 last night behind 30 points from their newly acquired star, Kawhi Leonard. It was Leonard’s purchase of a San Diego County home earlier this year that signaled the then-Toronto Raptor might jet this summer for an L.A. team. Leonard’s teammates and members of the Lakers, meanwhile, are usually in L.A. County. The players live in neighborhoods like Bel Air or Beverly Hills, particularly if they have families or are on long-term contracts, said Ko Nartey of Compass, an agent who specializes in working on real estate deals for professional athletes. Meanwhile, Clippers and Lakers players on rookie deals often live close to the teams’ respective practice facilities – the Clippers in Playa Vista, and the Lakers in El Segundo. “Manhattan Beach can be a destination for Lakers players, because of its proximity to El Segundo,” Nartey added. -

He IS Dwight Howard, and to be Dwight Howard is to put all around him through a Dwightmare. Ask the folks in Orlando. According to Broussard, Howard doesn’t like Mike D’Antoni’s offense because it doesn’t feature guess who, nor does he like playing with Kobe Bryant. (Not many do.) Speculation has long held that Howard will re-sign with the Lakers, largely because they can offer him $30 million more than any other club, but this report leaves a sizable dent in that once-solid consensus. If Howard doesn’t obey the signage and Stay, where might he Go? Writes Broussard: Howard plans to meet with Dallas, Houston and Atlanta before meeting with the Lakers once teams are allowed to contact free agents beginning July 1, a source said. -
