The Ordinary General Chapters of 2007 and 2013 decided upon and confirmed the work of revising the Constitutions. This work has been a commitment of the Order for over a decade. We have finally reached the end of this formative journey, which has helped us to reflect upon and renew our identity and mis- sion within the Church. The Constitutions, in fact, are expected to be, and must be, an actualization of the Rule in the context of the Church and of the societies in which we Friars Minor Conventual live. In the first of two sessions during 2007-2013, our common commitment was to learn 2018 more about some fundamental topics. To begin, reflections were initiated in all the com- munities of the Order through common worksheets to use as guides during House / Chapters and the publication of various studies carried out ad hoc and published in 4 Commentarium Ordinis and on the Order’s website. At the 2013 Ordinary General Chapter, the process of revising the Constitutions was given a renewed and decisive boost. The Chapter called for a committee composed of some friars working full-time to promote the process of working on, discussing, study- Nuntius ing and debating particular topics. Then they would propose the revised text for the Constitutions. The General Chapter indicated three guidelines for the revision process of the previous text. This text had gone into effect on March 25, 1985, concluding work that started in 1969. The guidelines were to considered during the process of rewriting Fraternus 4 MINISTER GENERAL the new charismatic-legislative text: (1) to deepen our knowledge of our charism, in light of the development of studies on Franciscanism in recent years; (2) to understand more deeply the evangelical and theological principles related to the consecrated life in the Church, in the light of the fact that the ecclesial magisterium has profoundly renewed its vision and language (starting first in the area of ecclesial and interpersonal communion); (3) to seriously consider the significant demographic changes and the geographical de- localization of the Order in these last decades. Załęska 44, 35-322, Rzeszów, Poland (Received 12 April 2020, revised 28 July 2020) Abstract Increasing social interest regarding sexual abuse of minors committed by clergymen forces Episcopal Conferences of relative countries to take a formal stance on the subject. Skilful planning of media communicates is a challenge for the Church. Critical analysis of conference involving clergymen giving an account on the scale of the problem is helpful, especially when the media reception of such a conference was very negative. This article tackles cases like that. Keywords: Catholic Church, media relations, image creation, public relations, paedophilia 1. Introduction The Catholic Church in Poland - despite the fact that in public opinion is treated as a stronghold of conservatism, traditionalism, suspicion towards progress and novelty, has changed significantly since the end of XX century and continues to change its attitude, especially when it comes to usage of social communication and mass media. Increasing the Church openness towards media relations and using a wider range of social communications tools is increasingly visible, but this activity is too limited, sometimes handled amateurly and with lots of mistakes. The Church‟s attitude towards mass media was revolutionised by teachings of Pope John Paul II [1], but considerations regarding relations between the Church and mass media in Poland were initialised in the second half of the XX century by Primate Stefan Wyszyński [2].

The research problem is a question: what actions does the Catholic Church take against pedophilia? In order to realize a research project, it was first determined how the offense is defined in the doctrine of church criminal law. Then, there was made an analysis of the activities undertaken by the hierarchs of the Catholic Church. On its basis, a typol- ogy of the forms of the Church’s influence at various levels was reconstructed in the field of both preventive and sanctioning actions against the clergy. In the article there was ad- opted a time restriction covering only 2018. It can be described as a breakthrough, first of all due to the verdict that was made in Poznań (MS, 2018), the accusations that appeared at the end of the year against the deceased chaplain of Solidarity, Fr. Henryk Jankowski and initiatives taken by both citizens and politicians, such as the first anti-clerical happening of Baby Shoes Remember in Poland or the creation of a pedophile map. In the cinemas, a movie entitled “Kler” showed up. It moved the topic of pedophilia in the Church.

  • Liturgy, an "Investigation" Into Cardinal Sarah's Management Gets Underway
VATICAN Liturgy, an "investigation" into Cardinal Sarah's management gets underway ECCLESIA 16-03-2021 Nico Spuntoni Three weeks after Pope Francis's acceptance of Cardinal Robert Sarah's resignation there could be a turning point in the mystery as to why the Prefect's job has been left disturbingly vacant According to information gathered by The Daily Compass, in fact, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has been ordered to undergo an Apostolic Visitation starting Monday, March 15. This is particularly noteworthy because it is not a diocese nor a religious order that is being investigated but rather a department of Roman curia. This is an investigation whose content and motives are presently unknown. Will it concern the former Guinean prefect’s past management or, rather, will it be directed more generally at the future of the Catholic liturgy? What we do know, for now, is that the Apostolic Visitor will likely be an Italian bishop. It will not be, however, Bishop Vittorio Francesco Viola, who many had picked as the likely successor of Sarah as prefect. According to sources gathered by Oltretevere, in fact, Bishop Claudio Maniago would lead the Apostolic Visitation at the Vatican’s Palace of the Congregations. Maniago, currently Bishop of Castellaneta (Southern Italy), is also President of Italian Bishops’ Conference’s Liturgical Commission. He is a choice, therefore, that would be in continuity with what was seen in the last Consistory: confirming the good times that the Italian episcopate - or at least a part of it – now seems to enjoying during Francis’s pontificate.

It is especially worth noting that the decision about the canonization and its date was announced public- ly precisely on the day of our university’s pilgrimage to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. It was during a consistory on September 30th 2013 that Pope Francis announced that he would canonize two popes, John XXIII and John Paul II, on April 27th 2014, Divine Mercy Sunday. It immediately became apparent that this would be a unique event that would forever remain etched in our memories. Along with the inauguration of the new academic year, preparations for the fullest experience of the canonization of John Paul II – the founder, caring guardian and ultimately illustrious patron of the university – were undertaken. These were not only preparations related to the organization of travel to the canonization ceremony, but above all those whose purpose was to deepen the knowledge of the great Polish pope and the popular- ization of his teachings. Symposia and academic conferences organized on this occasion will be presented below in separate summaries. It was with great joy that we heard the words of the formula for canonization

The First Decade of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow Abstract The paper shows how “the service of thought” (using an expression of John Paul II) has been performed at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow during last ten years. This paper presents the main cyclical scientific events, such as conferences and symposia, as well as signs of growth of the unique pontifical university in Central and Eastern Europe. For example the “Krakow methodological conferences” are of particular interest, because the discovery of an appropriate method ensures success in the search for truth. Keywords The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, ecclesiastical university education, “service of thought”. The Pontifical University of John Paul II is an academic institution located in Kra- kow, derived from the Faculty of Theology established in the 14th century. It hap- pened exactly in 1397 when the Queen of Poland St. Jadwiga (Hedwig) asked the Pope Boniface IX to strengthen the Krakow Studium Generale (founded on 12 May 1364 by King Casimir the Great) by founding the Faculty of Theology. The Pope answered on 11 January 1397 with the Bull Eximiae devotionis affectus The Person and the Challenges 254 Volume 10 (2020) Number 1, p. 253–282 allowing the foundation of that Faculty in Krakow at the same time promoting the Studium to the rank of university (now the Jagiellonian University).1 This very date begins an above six hundred years’ period of history of the Faculty of Theology in Krakow.
